The Best Way to Experience the Kansas City Air Show

The Garmin KC Air Show 2022 countdown has begun. This year’s highlights are the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds marking the U.S. Air Force’s 75th anniversary.

An air show is a public event where aircraft are exhibited. They often include aerobatics demonstrations, without they are called “static air shows” with aircraft parked on the ground.

KC’s biggest end-of-summer party is scheduled for September 3-4, 2022 at New Century AirCenter. The region’s premier air show experience will again feature a world-class group of performers, top-shelf hospitality, exhibitions and partnership opportunities.

One of the most amazing air shows in the U.S. offers exciting entertainment for the whole family featuring famous headliners like the U.S. Navy Blue Angels, the U.S. Army Golden Knights, A-10 Demo Team, Patty Wag staff and Julie Clark. The spectacle runs from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both days. Read on for tips on the best way to experience the Kansas City Air Show.

Failure to plan is planning to fail. To enjoy KC Air Show you need to have your contingencies for the weekend sorted out early to avoid wasting valuable time and becoming frustrated during the day.

Watch for the annual Kansas City Air Show to take to the skies on Saturday, September 3 and Sunday, September 4, 2022. This year, the air show will kick off with the help of the famous US Air Force Thunderbirds. Gates open at 9:00 a.m. at New Century AirCenter on both show days, and close at approximately 5:00 p.m. Aerial performances are scheduled to start at approximately 9:30 a.m. on both days.

Due to anticipated event traffic, please allow extra time to get to the Garmin KC Air Show. Parking for the KC Air Show must be reserved in advance and is available on a first-come, first-served basis. KC Air Show attendees should not park in private business lots. Any vehicles parked illegally will be subject to relocation.

Parking will be available in Garmin’s parking lot for free, but you’ll have to reserve your spot in advance. The air show will have a shuttle running from these lots to the New Century AirCenter. There’s no accessible parking on-site unless you hold a premium or platinum parking pass.

The KC Air Show is expected to sell out. General admission tickets for adults are $45 on Saturday and $40 on Sunday. Children ages 13-17 cost $16 for admission. Tickets for kids 6-12 years old are $9 each, and children under 5 get free admission.

More specifically there are multiple ticket options:

  • General admission tickets cost $45 for adults, $16 for teens and $9 for children each day. Kids ages 5 and under are free.
  • The Flight Line club gives you box seats that are located on the show’s line. You’ll have access to shaded areas, open-air viewing and exclusive restrooms. These cost $75.
  • The Gold Club is a tented area with shaded tables, catered lunch, and private, air-conditioned restrooms. It’ll cost you $179.
  • The Platinum club features all the perks of the Gold club, but you’ll have the best view of the show. Tickets to this section cost $399.
  • Photo pit tickets will give you exclusive Friday access to watch the performers practice and allow you to enter the show early on Saturday or Sunday to shoot photos while the jets are grounded. These tickets cost $150.

Of course, you purchase a ticket according to your capability but the different tickets offer different experiences. Unless you bought a Gold or Platinum club pass, you won’t have any shade. This is so people can see the sky unobstructed. Bring hats, sunglasses or small umbrellas that won’t prevent someone from viewing the jets and non-aerosol sunscreen!

Kansas City Air Show like all events is great, but it has a major downside: It ends.

Take photos and videos to make your Kansas City experience exist in perpetuity. Share with your people who could not make it so that they see what happened. Also, you can replay various aeroplane pass-bys that interested you at your own leisure at home.

The Kansas Air Show is held to promote and encourage tourism, raise the profile of the city and for the economic benefits, it brings to local businesses. Officially known as the KC Aviation & Airshow, the annual summer fest used to be held on the 4th of July celebration but in recent years has been moved up as a Labor Day weekend event.
