Jordan takes its name from the Jordan River, which forms much of the country’s northwestern border. Jordan has a high Human Development Index, ranking 102nd, and is considered an upper-middle-income economy. The Jordanian economy, one of the smallest economies in the region, is attractive to foreign investors based on a skilled workforce. 1. Bisher Al Khasawneh

Bisher Al Khasawneh is a Jordanian politician and diplomat who is serving as the 43rd Prime Minister of Jordan and Minister of Defence since 12 October 2020. Al-Khasawneh was an ambassador of Jordan to Egypt, France, Kenya, Ethiopia, the African Union, the League of Arab States, and UNESCO. He also served as Coordinator-General and Director of the Peace Process and Negotiations Bureau in Jordan.

Farah Siraj is a Jordanian vocalist named Jordan’s Musical Ambassadress and has a career that spans the United States, Europe, and the Middle East. 

Siraj has performed at the United Nations, the Nobel Prize Hall, the World Economic Forum, the TV show Good Morning Live in the USA, MBC TV in the Middle East, and the Antena de Oro Awards of Spain.

3. Suleiman Mousa

Suleiman Mousa was a Jordanian author and historian born in Al-Rafeed, a small village north of the city of Irbid. He wrote up to fifty books of which the most prominent is Biography of Sharif Hussein Bin Ali, Jordan in the 1948 War, Great Arab Revolt, History of Jordan in the 20th century, and was the first and only Arab author to write about Lawrence of Arabia and show the Arab perspective.

Suleiman’s book T.E. Lawrence: An Arab View was published in 1966 and translated into English, French, and Japanese. It was written after a study that had convinced him that although there were many books written to praise Lawrence and others written to discredit him, all of them exaggerated his part in the Arab Revolt and failed to do justice to the Arabs themselves.

4. Muath al-Kasasbeh

Muath al-Kasasbeh was a Royal Jordanian Air Force pilot who was captured and burned to death by the militant group ISIL after his F-16 fighter aircraft crashed over Syria.

ISIL held al-Kasasbeh captive before killing him in early January 2015. It then conducted negotiations with the Jordanian government, claiming it would spare al-Kasabeh’s life and free Japanese journalist Kenji Goto in exchange for Sajida al-Rishawi, a woman sentenced to death by Jordan for attempted terrorism and possessing explosives.

After the Jordanian government insisted on freeing al-Kasasbeh as part of the deal and showing proof that he was alive before it would exchange al-Rishawi, ISIL released a video on 3 February 2015 showing al-Kasasbeh being burned to death while trapped inside a cage.

Al-Kasasbeh’s killing provoked widespread outrage in Jordan, and condemnation by leading figures of the Islamic world and subsequently led the Jordanian government to execute two Iraqi militants on death row including al-Rishawi, who ISIL had requested in exchange for al-Kasasbeh in retaliation over the killing.

5. Abdelsalam al-Majali

Abdelsalam al-Majali is a Jordanian physician and politician who served twice as the 29th Prime Minister of Jordan.

Majali was director of medical services for the Jordanian Armed Forces from 1960 to 1969. He also served as minister of health from 1969 – 1971, and also, as minister of education from 1976 – 1979.

Majali was prime minister from May 1993 to January 1995, during which time he signed the 1994 Israel–Jordan peace treaty. On 5 January 1995, he resigned from office. He again was prime minister from 1997 to 1998, after which he was appointed to the Jordanian senate.

Diana Karazon is a Jordanian singer of Arabic pop, television host, and actress. She won Superstar, the Arabic version of Pop Idol.

Karazon has recorded multiple singles, including El Omr Mashi which is the second album of songs she recorded. She has also acted in multiple films to include, including SuperStar, Win with Diana, and Deut with Diana.

7. Assad Wasfi

Assad Wasfi is a Jordanian Olympic boxer, mixed martial artist, musical artist, and producer. He was a former fighter of the DFC and Cage Warriors Championship. Wasfi grew up in an Arab Muslim family in Jordan with a Boxing and Jiujitsu background.

Debuting in August 2010, Assad Al Hanini fought at Desert Force Championship’s first event in his hometown Amman, Jordan. In May 2011 at Desert Force 2 Assad won his second consecutive fight by way of TKO. Not too long after that, he had his third bout in June at Cage Warriors FIGHT NIGHT 1.

8. Mohanna Durra 

Mohanna Durra was a Jordanian painter widely regarded as a pioneer of the Jordanian Arts Movement and for being the first to introduce Cubism and abstract art into the Jordanian visual arts community. 

 Durra was a professor at the Faculty of Fine Art and Design at the University of Jordan and served as the President of the Jordan Association of Fine Arts.

Iman Mutlaq is a Jordanian entrepreneur, financier and social activist. She is the founder of the Sigma Investments Group.

Mutlaq established her export-import business at the age of eighteen and then entered the financial industry at the age of 27 covering the regions of the Middle East and North Africa. She is currently managing Jordan-based Sigma Investments. 

She is involved in angel investing in projects which enhance women’s creativity and ideas. She is also targeting applications for mobile devices through her startup, Dreamtech since 2015.

10. Nabil Sawalha

Nabil Sawalha is a Jordanian comedian. Sawalha began his theater career by acting in BBC radio plays in the 1950s while studying engineering in the UK. 

In 1962, he returned to Jordan and joined the Jordanian National Theatre Group. In 1968, Sawalha formed his own production company, Urdon Co., and began producing series for local and regional Arab networks, such as Tamara.
