Shimon peres is an Israeli politician who was born on 2 August 1923 and died on September 2016,after suffering a stroke.

He was the ninth president and eight prime minister of Israel. After his retirement in 2014, he was the world’s oldest head of state . Before becoming the prime minister He first succeeded Yitzhak Rabin as an acting  prune minister.

He founded the Peres Center for Peace with an aim of promoting a lasting peace and advancement in the Middle East. He also won the Nobel peace prize together with Rabin and Yasser Arafat .He was also considered as one of the founders of the Israel technology sector.

Peres also engineered  the 1994 Israel Jordan peace treaty , participated in the operation Entebbe which took place in 1976 and also initiated the operation Grape of Wrath.

1.He was an Israeli politician

Shimon Peres is an Israel politician, who not only served as the ninth president of Israel from 2007 to 2014, but also as the eight prime minister of Israel from 1984 to 1986 and from 1995 to 1996. He was a member of twelve cabinets and represented five political parties in his political career that spanned for 70 years.
In 2014 during his retirement he was the world’s oldest head of state and was regarded as the last link to Israel’s founding generation. He was succeeded by Reuven Rivlin.

2.He engineered Israel -Jordan peace treaty

The Israel-Jordan Peace treaty which is formally referred to as the Treaty of Peace Between the State of Israel and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and known as Wadi Araba Treaty. It is an agreement that ended the state of war that existed between two countries since the 1948 Arab -Israeli war and established mutual diplomatic relations.
The Jordan treaty was engineered by Shimon peres in 1994.The ceremony took pace at the southern border crossing of Arabah.

The Nobel peace prize is one of the five Nobel prizes that were established by the will of the Swedish industrialist, inventor and armaments manufacturer Alfred Nobel. It has been awarded annually to those who have done the most for the fraternity between the nations since march 1901.
In 1994,Shimon Peres won the Nobel peace prize together with Rabin and Yasser Arafat for the Oslo Accord peace talks with the Palestinian Leadership.

4.He was a vice prime minister

In 2006,Peres was elected back to Knesset as a member of Kadima. After the new Kadima led government was formed peres was given the role of vice prime minister.
The deputy prime ministers of Israel fall into four categories which are the designated acting prime minister, deputy prime minister, vice prime minister and alternate prime minister. The vice prime minister is an honorary and extra-constitutional position but entitled the office holder to a place in the cabinet which was the role of Shimon Pere.

The Suez crisis or the second Arab-Israeli war in the Arab world and the Sinai war in Israel was an invasion of Egypt in late 1956 by Israel, followed by the United Kingdom and France with the aim to regain control of the Suez canal.
From 1954,Peres was involved in planning of the 1956 Suez war as a director of the Ministry of Defense. He was sent by David Ben-Gurion to Âé¶¹APP, where he held secret meetings with the French government.

As a minister of defense Peres on 27 June 1976,handled Israel’s response to a coordinated act of terrorism in collaboration with Prime minister Rabin. They were responsible for approving the “operation Entebbe “that took place on 4 July 1976.
The operation Entebbe was a successful counter terrorist hostage rescue mission that was carried out by commandos of Israel defense forces at Entebbe Airport in Uganda. Its boosted the Rabin government’s approval rating with the public.He  also initiated Operation Grapes of Wrath.

In 1996,as prime minister, Peres initiated Operation Grapes of Wrath, which was triggered by Hezbollah Katyusha rockets that were fired in response to the killing of two Lebanese by ab IDF missile.
Operation Grapes of Wrath is the seventeen day campaign of the Israeli Defense forces against Hezbollah. Its aim was to attempt to end rocket attacks on Northern Israel by the organization.

8.He is the founder of Peres Center peace

In 1996, he founded the Peres Center for Peace together with the Nobel Peace Laureate with the aim to promote lasting peace and advancement in the Middle East by fostering tolerance, economic and technological development, cooperation and well being.
The Peres Center for peace is located in Jaffa, Israel. It’s an independent non-profit, Non-government and non-political organization. It mainly focuses on health and medicine, sport, agriculture, environment, business ,education ,youth, technology and arts.
