Daliah Lavi was born on 12th October 1942 to Reuben Lewinbuk and Ruth Lewinbuk in Shavei Tzion, British Mandate of Palestine {which is Israel}.

The mother of Daliah Lavi was of German-Jewish descent. The father was of Russian-Jewish descent.

1. Daliah Lavi was Fluent in Several Languages

At the age of eighteen in 1960, Daliah Lavi had not started his career officially but she was fluent in several languages.

Other than knowing her mother language, Daliah Lavi was fluent in speaking German, French, Italian, Spanish and English, an achievement which made her prosper well in her career.

2. Daliah Lavi’s Ballet Career Cut Short by Illness

While at the age of 10, Daliah Lavi met Kirk Douglas {who was an American actor and filmmaker} who she told about her interest in dancing. Kirk Douglas convinced the parents of Daliah Lavi in allowing her to go to Stockholm to study ballet.

After she got to Stockholm, Daliah Lavi’s ballet dancing career came to an end after she developed health issues, and low blood pressure due to the climatic conditions. She, later on, went back to Israel and continued pursuing her career in modelling.

3. Daliah Lavi Shot her First Film while still a Teenager

In 1955, at the age of 13, Daliah Lavi made a great achievement in her career as she made her first film.

Her first film was a Swedish adaptation of ‘The People of Hemso’, a novel written by August Strindberg.

This first film as a teenager won Daliah Lavi more popularity with an added advantage being her linguistic skills.

4. She Changed her Name while Living in Âé¶¹APP

She was born and given the name Daliah Lewinbuk or Levenbuch. However, she opted to change her last name from Lewinbuk to Lavi.

After starring in several movies and relocating to Âé¶¹APP, Daliah decided to drop her name Lewinbuk and took the name Lavi.

5. Daliah Lavi was in Four Marriages, Divorced Three Husbands

Daliah Lavi married four times. Not a lot is known about the details of the first husband of Daliah Lavi. His name was Gianfranco Piacentini.

After divorcing her first husband, Daliah Lavi married John Sullivan {1967} who was a renowned writer.

They later on divorced due to some personal reasons but they had a child named Sohn Rouven.

In 1973, Daliah Lavi married her third husband known as Peter Rittmaster who she later on divorced in 1975. They had a child named baby Alexander.

In 1977, Daliah Lavi married Charles Gens who was a business person {a Frenchman} with who they moved together to France where her career blossomed and flourished. The relationship between Daliah Lavi lasted until she passed on in 2017.

6. Won a Major Award with her First American Film

In 1962, Daliah Lavi worked with Vincente Minnelli in the film known Two Weeks In Another Town which was also her first American film.

This film was a major hit that brought her to wider notice and also won her the Golden Globe Award for the most promising upcoming new female filmmaker.

7. Fellow Israeli Actor Persuaded Daliah to Record Songs

Daliah Lavi was born with several talents but started with acting which earned her much recognition and popularity across the world through the movies she featured in.

In 1971, Daliah Lavi was approached by fellow Israeli actor Chaim Topol who persuaded her to compose and record Hebrew songs for BBC.

Daliah Lavi took the advice of Chaim and rebranded herself as a singer.

8. Her Music Career Thrived Well in German and Won an Award

After the huge success in her acting career, Daliah Lavi headed out to Germany where she launched her music career after getting advice from fellow Israeli Chaim Topol.

She started her music career in the 1970s after she discovered a record producer known as Jimmy Bowren.

She took part in recording major hit songs and also collaborated with international songwriters and artists.

Daliah Lavi became one of the most popular vocalists in Germany during her era. She made her greatest mark in her music career with two songs Oh Wann Kommst Du? {When will you come?} and Willst du mit Mir Gehen? {Will You Go With Me?}.

In 1971, Daliah Lavi was recognized as one of the most successful female singers which earned her the award that was known as “OTTO”. This was one of the major prizes in Germany that were given by the German Pop Music Magazine Bravo.

9. Daliah Lavi was a Great Hollywood and European Movies Star

Even though she was into dancing, Daliah Lavi went ahead and became one of the famous Israeli actors.

Daliah Lavi acted in several genres of movies in French, Germany, Italian and English languages.

Other than appearing in some of the greatest European movies, Daliah Lavi gradually broke into Hollywood where she also featured in several movies.

Among the movies that Daliah Lavi participated in included; The People of Hermoso, The Return of Dr Mabuse,  The Whip and The Body, and Two Weeks in Another Town among many others.

10. She was the First Israeli to Appear in the British Edition of ‘Vogue’ Magazine

Daliah Lavi enjoyed a blissful career in acting, dancing and not forgetting in modelling. She pursued her modelling career for several years while in Israel.

In 1964, Daliah Lavi broke the record and became the first Israel model to appear on the cover of the British edition of ‘Vogue magazine.

Daliah Lavi lived well until 2017 but she passed on peacefully while in Asheville, North Carolina, Los Angeles at the age of 75.

The cause of the death of Daliah has never been revealed by her fourth husband Charles Gen. She was buried in Israel.

Dalaih Lavi is survived by her fourth husband Charles Gen, sister, three sons and daughters; Rouven Gans, Kathy Rothman, Alexander Gans and Stephen Gans.
