Top 10 Fascinating Facts about Shenseea

Jamaican dancehall star Shenseea has made her debut on Billboard鈥檚 Hot 100 Chart with her collaboration with rapper Kanye West on 鈥淧ure Souls,鈥� a song on West鈥檚 10th studio album 鈥淒onda.鈥� Shenseea鈥檚 song entered the Hot 100 at Number 52 on September 7, 2021, making her the first Jamaican female dancehall artist to make the chart in 17 years.

1. Shenseea is a Jamaican and Korean

Born as Chinsea Lin Lee in Mandeville, Jamaica on 1^st October 1996. Shenseea has a Jamaican mother and a Korean father.

According to Dancehall magazine, the 鈥淏lessed鈥� singer鈥檚 mother, Castilyn Eleanor Williams, passed away in June 2020 and she had never met her father. 鈥淢y mom鈥檚 death changed me,鈥� she explained during an Instagram Live Q&A session with fans.

 鈥淟ess talkative, more reserved. I hope it won鈥檛 be like this forever but at the moment I can鈥檛 help it. Time is master and I assure you it has not changed my love for y鈥檃ll; it has grown seeing the support and comfort you give in my hardest of times.鈥�

She comes from Korean and Jamaican heritage. Shenseea spent her childhood in St. Mary.

 Until she signed up with Romeich Entertainment, she worked as a promo girl. Shenseea appeared on a side stage at 2015鈥檚 staging of Reggae Sumfest and also remixed the song 鈥淟oodi鈥� by Vybz Kartel.

 She performed on the main stage at Sumfest in 2017 as her popularity increased while she was on a world tour.

She was selected by the telecom company Flow for corporate sponsorship and represented Pepsi-Cola Jamaica in the firm鈥檚 ginger-flavored soda in Jamaica Shenseea won the Young Hot and Hype Artiste, Break Out Celebrity, and Collaboration of the Year for the song 鈥淟oodi鈥� in 2016 with Vybz Kartel.

4. Shenseea has also displayed her freestyling skills as a rap artist

This is her most successful recording to date. In addition to dancehall, Shenseea has also displayed her freestyling skills as a rap artist. She partnered with Sean Paul on the single 鈥淩olling鈥� in 2017 and also performed on a leg of his 2017 European tour.

5. Shenseea was featured on the 2018 album 鈥渓iberation鈥� by Christina Aguilera

Shenseea has also worked with Tommy Lee and was featured on the 2018 album 鈥渓iberation鈥� by Christina Aguilera in the song 鈥淩ight Moves.鈥� In 2019, after signing with Interscope records, Shenseea released a new hip-hop/dancehall track that featured the American artist Tyga. The track, 鈥� Blessed ,鈥� has had 10.5 million views on YouTube to date.

Shenseea noted that the chart exposure for 鈥淧ure Souls鈥� definitely serves to boost her career and expects the ranking to motivate other artists to work with her.

Her son Rajeiro keeps her grounded. In an interview with E! News, as reported by Dancehall Mag,  the 鈥淲asabi鈥� singer noted Rajeiro and God as her main sources of center and peace. 鈥淟isten, even when I鈥檓 down I pray every single day.

I pray for everything I want, I pray for strength and my son he鈥檚 my biggest motivation,鈥� she said. Shenseea noted that Rajeiro鈥檚 love for his mother鈥檚 music pushes her to work harder and makes the process of music-making more fun and exciting.

7. She鈥檚 worked with Kanye West

Shenseea had a huge year in 2021 and notably appeared on Kanye West鈥檚 Donda album cut 鈥淥K OK, Pt. 2鈥� and 鈥淧ure Souls.鈥� During a  Power 105.1 Interview, she noted how she and West came to work together.

鈥淗e saw my freestyle and he said, 鈥榊o, we need to get this girl on my album.鈥� I see people were blowing up my team like crazy that day, like what鈥檚 the emergency?鈥� she jokingly recalled. 鈥淏ut it was a pretty good emergency.鈥�

She began sharing freestyles across Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp after the birth of her son in 2015. In a sit down she talked about being inspired to take her career by the reigns and give her all.

Her 2021 鈥淒on鈥檛 Rush鈥� freestyle has amassed over 11.9 million views on YouTube since its publishing in January. Since being picked up by The Shade Room, many celebrities, influencers, and fans have swooned over Shenseea鈥檚 talents.

9. Nicki Minaj and Rihanna are two of her dream collaborators

In a 2021 video interview with BET, she revealed that she would love to work with the two platinum-selling Caribbean music artists. My fingers are crossed that this happens!

10. Her first performance was a Whitney Houston song

Shenseea also grew up loving powerhouse vocalists like Whitney Houston and Celine Dion. During an interview with journalist JR Watkins, she talked about being interested in being a soul singer and the role that church played in her career.

鈥淚 was raised in a Pentecostal church鈥�I could never sing in a choir I wanted to sing alone because I didn鈥檛 want anyone to drown out my voice,鈥� she told Watkins. Shenseea鈥檚 first performance was 鈥淕reatest of All鈥� by the late Whitney Houston.
