Greta Scacchi is an Italian Film actress and theatre performer who was born on 18 February 1960. She holds dual Italian and Australian citizenship. She has played in several films and theatres in England She is best known for her roles in the films White Mischief in 1987, Presumed Innocent in 1990, The PlayerEmma,  and Looking for Alibrandi   2000.

She began her journey in the industry way back in 1981 and is regarded as one of the top film actors of all time. She has also received several awards and nominations in England. In  2006 she proceeded to receive a second Emmy nomination for her role in the television film, Broken Trail and earned the first screen Actor Guide Award Nomination.

1.The beginning  of Scacchi`s career

During Scacchi and her parent’s stay in Perth, Scacchi attended Hollywood Senior High school and Later on in her education joined the UWA`s Dramatic Society. This is where it can be said that she had begun her journey in theater and acting. She first made her theatrical debut at the New Dolphin Theatre in Edward Bond’s play Early Morning under director Arne Neeme. 

2.Scacchi`s return to England

In the year 1977, Scacchi returned to England to study at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. She was joined by Miranda Richardson and Amanda Redman. She landed her first on-screen role only four years later in the season finale of Bergerac in 1981.

This was merely the onset of her long journey in theatre and film. She has landed various roles as she was fluent in English, French, German, and Italy, which was momosteeded by directors in film production.

3.Greta`s first nominations and Awards

In the year 1983, Greta landed her first leading role in the film Heat and Dust. This role in the film landed her first BAFTA nomination for the Best Newcomer to film. She had definitely started on a great foot in the industry. She proceeded to be awarded several nominations, including the Primetime Emmy Award and earned a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actress, which she won.

She was awarded this nomination for her portrayal of Empress Alexandra Fyodorovna of Russia in the television film, Rasputin: Dark Servant of Destiny Her first leading role, in Heat and Dust in the year 1983. She has also won the earned Primetime Emmy Award and earned a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actress. 

4.Greta Scacchi  on screen roles

Greta began her career way back in the year 1981 where she landed her first on-screen role in the season finale of Bergerac.  She landed the role of the girlfriend of an international criminal being pursued by the eponymous detectives. Just a year later she made her film debut in the German movie Das Zweite Gesicht. 

Her career proceeded quite well as she landed her first leading role in the British Film Heat and Dust in the year1983 which earned her a nomination for Best Newcomer to Film. She has also performed in the different films;   The Ebony Tower in 1984, The Coca-Cola Kid in 1985, White Mischief in 1987, Presumed Innocent in 1990, The Player in 1992 and Country Life in 1994.  

She also performed in the film Rasputin: Dark Servant of Destiny which she won an Emmy from. She also landed a role in the Australian film looking for Alibrandi. She was awarded the Best Supporting Actress. Back in 2007, she received an Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in Miniseries.

5.Scacchi`s performance in theatre

During the earl takeoff of her career in acting and theatre performance, Scacchi appeared in the In Times Like These (Bristol Old Vic) and Cider with Rosie. After this point her career kept growing by the day. She even managed to make four films in a whapping 15 months.

Around 1985 she appeared with Mark Rylance and Kevin McNally in Airbase in the Oxford Playhouse and Arts Theatre. Just a year later she performed in the Uncle Vanya at the Vaudeville Theatre with Michael Gambon and Jonathan Pryce.

  She has also played the Nora in Ibsen’s A Doll’s House in the Festival of Perth, Miss Julie for the Sydney Theatre Company, Sam Shepard’s Simpatico and in 1999, she took the lead in Easy Virtue in Chichester, directed by actress Maria Aitken.

6.Scacchi`s support for environmental causes

Scacchi has taken initiatives to support environmental causes. She has joined campaigns and organizations to do so. She take upon herself to join the Greenpeace and Christian Aid`s Climate Change campaigns. These were some of the ways she in which she hoped to promote environmental protection and conservation for the coming generation.

Scacchi in 2009 even posed nude with a codfish to promote the documentary The End of The Lane.The film was made to expose the dangers that are caused to marine life due to overfishing.

She has proceeded to lead campaigns linked to Fish love campaign. The campaigns entailed well established actors posing for photographs with variety of fish. All this was aimed in conserving marine life.

7.Scacchi awarded the Knight in the Order of Merit

In October 2013, for her services to the arts she was awarded Cavaliere Ordine al Merito Della Repubblica Italiana  translated to the Knight in the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic. The Order of Merit of the Italian Republic is awarded in the fields of literature, arts, economy, public service, and social, philanthropic and humanitarian activities. She was awarded this honor for her service in arts.

8.Scacchi`s role in Shakespeare

Among the many theatre performance she has made in her career, he was privilegeed enough to play the role of Regan in the Shakespeare’s King Lear at the Old Vic in London. This happened back in 2013 and was directed by Sir Jonathan Miller.

For over 40 years in her acting and performance career, she has shown great resilience and hard work. She is even regarded as among one of the highest paid actresses of her time. Scacchi is positioned with people with Money`s top 10 highest-paid actresses for 2022. It is estimated that she earned $46 million between 2021 and 2022.

Greta has performed in numerous films throughout her career from the year 1981.
