Guccio Giancito Maria Giovanbattista Dario Gucci was born on 26th March 1881 in Florence, Tuscany.  Guccio was well known as a prominent business individual and he is also the founding father of Gucci. His parents were namely Gabriello Gucci and Elena Santini. 

Here are some of the facts about this splendid individual. 

1. Guccio Gucci’s net worth is above $50 million

Even though he kicked the bucket, his business continues to grow immensely across the globe. With his five sons managing the company, the company brings in chunky profits. 

It is said that if Gucci was alive to alive to receive his profits, he is estimated to have a networth of $58 Million pounds. It may even be more for that is just but an estimate known to the public. 

2. Guccio Gucci settled to use a horse bit as his company’s logo

Before the well known Double Gs, a horse bit was used as Gucci’s logo. During that time, Guccio was the one in-charge of sales and profits. He then sought to use a horse bit as his company’s logo. 

This is because, at the start of the company, most of his clients were aristocrats on horseback. They entrusted him with various goods since Gucci produced the finest riding gear made from the best leather sources in Italy. 

To demonstrate his appreciation to his loyal clients, Guccio Gucci went on to have a horse related logo to his company. 

3. Guccio Gucci provided his neighbors with job opportunities

Gucci created job opportunities for his neighborhood. He hired craftsmen who would work for him and enable his business grow successfully. Despite this thoughtful act, he was a picky person.

Not all craftsmen were hired. He himself chose craftsmen who possessed the zeal and experience to good craftsmanship with zero compromises on quality. That explained the higher purchase of his goods.

He did not only dwell in using leather as the main raw material, but also tried to use other raw materials. Some of the materials he experimented with were jute, linen and hemp. 

The experiments came to life as some of the goods were made. In 1940, one of the popular designs was a bamboo bag in the shape of a saddle. Its handles were freshly prepared from a burnished cane. 

5. Guccio Gucci was motivated by the elegance and style in England and France

His motive to start up a cloth line was mainly brought up by the elegance and style he saw from European countries. He was utterly impressed while he was working as a lift boy in Savoy Hotel. 

He got to see people from the upper class community all dressed up smartly with admirable accessories. This geared him to go back to Italy and start his own brand.

Through apprenticeship, he got to learn the art of making leather bags and saddles by helping his dad make them. 

6. Guccio Gucci did not develop the GG logo

The logo that Guccio Gucci came up with was the famous bit. It is logical that Gucci himself came up with the GG logo but surprisingly, he was not the core creator of the logo.

 After he unfortunately kicked the bucket in 1953, the GG logo came up. It was designed and made a solid logo in 1960. It was made the solid logo so as to pay tribute to the founding father, Gucci. 

Till date, the two Gucci logo are still intact in the fashion market with its goods being diversely won by individuals across the world. 

7. Guccio Gucci’s son took part in the growth of the establishment of the brand

Gucci had one ambitious son, Aldo Gucci. Aldo was well conversant with business knowledge and skills. He was the one who came up with the iconic Double G logo. Aldo convinced his father to open up a second store in Rome. 

This promoted business growth as the British military officers occupying Rome were prone to purchasing suiter bags. While he was on a trip to a London fair, Aldo met up with a Scottish tanner. 

They conversed and had a deal that the tanner would provide for him with the necessary brindled pigskin needed for the Gucci business. The skin later on became one of Gucci’s trademark. 

8. Guccio Gucci was introduced to the American market in 1951

Giovan Battisti Giorgini was the one who gave Guccio the needed connection to the American and possibly worldwide market. He invited Gucci to present his utilities at a small show.

Gucci was to present his collections to American department store buyers and journalists in Europe. This gave room to epic business opportunities across America and Europe at large. 

9.  Guccio Gucci got married to a dress maker

After a few years in London, Gucci returned to Italy  and tied the knot with the then 24-year-old dressmaker Aida Calvelli in 1901. 

They had six children, five sons and one daughter. His sons were Vasco, Ugo(adopted from mother’s previous r/ship), Aldo and Rodolfo Gucci. His other son Enzo unfortunately died in childhood

10. Guccio Gucci was also an elevator operator in Savoy Hotel

Apart from him being a lift boy in London, he also became an elevator operator. During his time of work, he came into contact with celebrities such as Winston Churchill and Marilyn Monroe. 

He even went a step further to exchange contacts for he was sure they would help in assisting the upcoming business grow.
