Cedi Osman was born on 8th April 1995, in Ohrid, Macedonia(today North Macedonia).
He is a Turkish Macedonian professional basketball player for the Cleveland Cavaliers of the National Basketball Association(NBA), who plays the small forward position.
He started playing basketball with KK Bosnas youth teams in 2001 and has also represented the Turkey men’s national basketball team, after obtaining his citizenship as a Turkish.
He signed a youth team contract with Anadolu Efes junior team in 2007and in the summer of 2012, he signed a professional contract with the Anadolu Efes senior team.
He was selected with the 31st overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft by the Minnesota Timberwolves, where then he was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

1. Osman obtained Turkish citizenship as per Turkey’s right-of-return laws
Osman was born in Macedonia to a Turkish father and a Bosniak mother from Novi Pazar, Serbia. He started playing basketball with KK Bosnas youth teams of Bosniak, before acquiring his Turkish citizenship.
Due to his paternal Turkish background, he became a Turkish citizen, as per Tukey’s right-of-return laws. Since then, Osman has represented the Turkeys men’s national basketball team.
2. He was loaned to the Pertevniyal by Anadolu Efes
Osman signed a youth team contact with Anadolu Efes in 2007, after his exceptional performance at KK Bosna youth teams. He played for the junior, star, and youth teams of Anadolu Efes.
Anadolu Efes loaned him to the Pertevniyal of the Turkish Basketball First League for the 2011-2012 season.
Pertevniyal was at the time the farm team of Anadolu Efes. Osman signed a professional contract with Anadolu Efes senior team in the summer of 2012.
3. He plays for the Cleveland Cavaliers of the National Basketball Association(NBA)
On 25th June of 2015, Osman was selected with the 31st overall pick in the 2015 NBA draft, by the Minnesota Timberwolves, an American professional basketball team.
His draft rights were exchanged to the Cleveland Cavaliers along with those of Rakeem Christmas, in exchange for the draft rights to Tyus Jones that same night.
The draft is held by NBA teams who take turns in selecting non-professional U.S. college basketball players and other eligible players, including international players.
Osman signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers on the 18th of July 2017 where he plays to date.
4. Osman was nominated for the 2019 Rising Star Challenge
On January 25th,2019, in a 100-94 loss of the Cleveland Cavaliers to the Miami Heat, Osman scored a career-high 29 points.
Four days later after the Cleveland Cavaliers and Miami Heat match, he was named a participant in the 2019 Rising Stars Challenge as a member of the world team.
5. He is the 9th Cavaliers player ever to join the 500+3 point club
Osman signed with the Cavaliers in 2017, where he had his first performance on 9th February 2018 achieving victory over Atlanta Hawks.
He contributed 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting while marking 6 rebounds,5 assists, and 3 steals qualifying the Cavaliers for the 2018 NBA Finals but they lost to the Golden State Warriors.
Osman signed a contract extension with the Cavaliers on October 26, 2019, and he recorded his 500th 3-pointer as a member of the Cavaliers on March 22, 2022. This made him just the 9th Cavaliers player to have joined the 500+3 point club.
6. He played at various tournaments with Turkeys Junior National Teams
Osman was a member of the junior national teams of Turkey. He played at various tournaments with the teams including; the 2011 FIBA Europe Under-16 Championship, and the 2012 FIBA Europe Under-18 Championship.
Also, the 2012 Albert Schweitzer Tournament where he won a bronze medal and was named the Most Talented Player.
In the 2013 FIBA Europe Under-18 Championship winning a gold medal, and at the 2014 FIBA Europe Under-20 Championship also won a gold medal.
He was named to the All-Tournament Team and selected as the MVP(Most Valuable Player).
7. He became a member of the Senior Turkish National Basketball Team
After his substantial achievements, while playing with the junior national teams of Turkey, Osman became a member of the senior men’s Turkish national basketball team.
With Turkey’s senior national team, Osman played at three tournaments. The 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup, EuroBasket 2015, and the 2016 Manila FIBA World Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
8. Osman has won several tournaments and awards
He won the Turkish Basketball National Cup Tournament and Turkish Basketball Super Cup Competition in 2015.
From 2015-2017, he won the 3x BSL(Basketball Super League) All-Star, the FIBA Europe Under-20 Championship winning a gold medal, and was named to the All-Tournament Team and selected as the Most Valuable Player in 2014.
The FIBA Europe Under-18 Championship where he won a gold medal in 2013, and the Albert Schweitzer Tournament where he won a bronze medal and was named the Most Talented Player in 2012.
9. Osman got engaged in 2021
He proposed to Ebru Sahin, a Turkish actress who started her acting career with the cinema movie ‘Kan Parasi and is famously known for her leading roles in Hersai and Destan.
They got engaged in September 2021.
10. Osman was appointed as UNICEF’s National Ambassador
Osman, a Turkish National Team and NBA basketball player was appointed as UNICEF’s newest National Ambassador on 1st October 2020 in Ankara.
The appointment was announced by Philippe Duamelle, UNICEF Representative to Turkey in an effective meeting organized with the participation of children and media representatives.
Osman is known to have been supporting UNICEF’s work since 2018, including field visits, World Children’s Day, and recently the response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In his role as a UNICEF National Ambassador, Osman will focus on youth engagement and sports and help raise awareness of children’s rights and issues affecting youth.
