Located in Kusadasi in Aydin Province in Turkey, the Ladies Beach is known as  Kadınlar Denizi in Turkish language.  

The Turkish name Kadınlar Denizi or Women’s Sea came from how the beach was used historically as only women were allowed to swim there during Ottoman period.

The beach which is completely sandy is visited on Sundays by local residents from Kusadasi town.

 Since Turkey has a strong sense of secularism men and women are not separated at the beach any more as was the case during the Ottoman period.

After recent renovations, the beach has become very popular with tourists. The beach is about one kilometer in length.

From the center of town in Kusadasi town, the beach is 20 minutes walk away or 5 minutes drive away.

The ladies’ beach also known Kadınlar Denizi in Turkish language i.e. the women sea beach is located in the Aydin province in Kusadasi District.

It is one of the places where both local residents of Kusadasi district and foreign tourists can swim together during summer.

In ancient times during Ottoman rule, the path to the beach was secluded under pine trees and only women could enter and swim in the beach hence the name women sea beach.

Nowadays it is a free public beach and anyone whether male or female can enter the beach, swim and bask in the sun on the warm sandy beach.

Visitors can rent a towel and an umbrella at the beach if they don’t bring them along whenever they visit the beach.

The beach and its surrounding sea are generally clean and the waters in the sea are clear even though the beach is a major tourist attraction site and crowded during summer.

The beach is very convenient for visitors as there are wash basins, public showers and changing cabins on it for visitors to use.

The sea is mostly smooth and still while the beach is generally a quiet place.

Light waves only appear is September every year otherwise most of the time the sea is still and smooth.

About 50 meters from the beach the average depth of the sea is between 150 centimeters and 160 centimeters and as such it is ideal for swimming.

The Blue Flag is a certification issued by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE).

 The Blue Flag is a trademark that the not-for-profit non-governmental organization consisting of 65 organisations in 60 member countries owns.

The Blue Flag provides proof that a beach, a marina, or a sustainable boating tourism operator has met its standards for the award of the certification.

The Ladies’ Beach was awarded the Blue Flag due to its commitment in maintaining high environmental and quality standards.

4. Ladies’ Beach Is Very Busy During Summer

During summer and especially weekends, the beach is usually very busy. 

Summer holiday makers, hotel customers, people from Kusadasi district  and day trippers flock the beach in large numbers during that time of the year.

Even though the completely sandy beach is almost one kilometer in length, it gets so crowded that it becomes impossible to throw a needle in the beach.

5. The Ladies’ Beach Is Under 24 Hour Security Surveillance

The authorities are well aware of beach threats which could reduce the number of tourists who visit the beach.

All measures have therefore been put in place to arrest those threats before they materialize.

During the tourism season the beach is kept under 24 hour surveillance by security camera system.  

The coast of the beach is also closely monitored as beach police are always on duty during the season.

6. Water Activities Are Also Carried Out On The Beach And The Sea

Around the beach there are businesses that carry out water activities for a fee.  There are businesses that run a diving school on the beach offering diving lessons to beach goers at a fee.

There are also others that offer Jet Ski services, snorkeling, boat parachutes and scuba diving at a fee to beach goers and tourists who visit the beach during summer periods.

7. The Beach Is Easily Accessible From Major Cities And Towns In Aydin Province

The beach is roughly 132 kilometers from Aydin city centre and 3 kilometers from Kusadasi town centre and is located within the borders of  Kusadasi district.

Kusadasi which is a major tourist destination can be reached through a direct bus service departing from Aydin city centre or by minibuses from Aydin centre.

There are also bus services that can be used from other provinces in Turkey to Kusadasi.

Tourists can use minibuses called Dolmus which transport visitors from Kusadasi town centre to the beach located just 3 kilometers away.

8. The Beach Is Surrounded By Hotels, Markets, Restaurants And Entertainment Venues

Kusadasi town offers a variety of evening and nightlife activities such as the famous carriage ride for tourists to enjoy.

The city offers a full day stroll through the city streets and squares full of diverse shops.

Even though there is no sea, the architecture and everything in it associate with the sea.
