Israel has developed a flourishing film industry. Its films are competing in international film festivals and winning numerous awards. A country with a population of just eight million people, there are ten film schools and seven international film festivals.
The Israeli film industry has massively grown. Millions of people worldwide watch Israeli films. Such growth could be partially attributed to the Israeli Film Fund. The Fund works to promote a sustainable, creative and a vibrant Israeli film industry. In 2000, the Israeli government passed a New Cinema Law to ensure and secure more funding for Israeli cinema.
Since the filmmaking inception in the 1950s, tremendous developments have been made. In the last decade alone, more than 10 Israeli films have been nominated for The Oscar or in the Cannes Festival.
Israeli films have touched on topics very close to home from; heroic molds, to the holocaust, to Israel-Arab and the Jews-Arabs confrontations and the military aspects in the Israelis life.
1.Lior Ashkenazi
Lior Ashkenazi was born on 28th December 1968. He is an Israeli actor, comedian and television presenter.
His breakout role came in Late Marriage, 2001, which he won the Israeli Film Academy Award for Best Actor. In 2011, Ashkenazi won the Israeli Film Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in Joseph Cedar’s Footnote, which was nominated for a Best Foreign Film Oscar.
He has won three Ophir Awards, has had an extremely successful television career, his films have won major awards at Cannes, Berlin and Venice and he travels the world, appearing in foreign productions.
His net worth as per 2020- 2021 was estimated as 1.5 million dollars.
2. Mark Ivanir
Mark Alexandrovich Ivanir is a Ukrainian-born Israeli actor. He is known for his character roles on American film and television. He is fluent in six languages, a skill often shown off in his performances.
Ivanir’s first major film role was in Steven Spielberg’s 1993 Oscar-winning epic Schindler’s List.
His biggest part to date was on the critically acclaimed A Late Quartet, released from RKO pictures in the United States, in fall 2012. The film was voted as one of the New York Daily News 10 top films of the year.
Ivanir has had over 60 guest star and guest lead roles on television shows such as 24, Monk, CSI: NY, Law & Order, Fringe, CSI: Miami, Nikita and Royal Pains.
3.Ori Pfeffer
Ori Pfeffer is an Israeli actor and voice actor. He starred as Detective Golan Cohen in the TV-series Dig and in the movie Hacksaw Ridge.
4. Alon Abutbul
Alon Moni Abutbul is an Israeli actor. He won the IFFI Best Actor Award (Male) at the 44th International Film Festival of India.
Abutbul’s first role in a big popular film was in 1986 when he was cast in the Israeli film Shtei Etzbaot Mi’Tzidon, Two Fingers from Sidon, a film which took place in the 1982 Lebanon War. For his performance in this film Abutbul was later awarded the “Best Actor” award at the Jerusalem Film Festival.
5.Oded Fehr
Oded Fehr was born on 23 November 1970 in Tel Aviv, Israel. He is an Israeli actor, currently based in the United States.
He trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School in England after taking a very brief drama class in Frankfurt, Germany. He served as a soldier in the Israeli Navy from 1989 to 1992 and used to work security for the Israeli airline.
He is known for his appearance in the 1999 remake of The Mummy and its sequel The Mummy Returns, as well as in Resident Evil.
He has made screen appearances in a bunch of movies and made voice overs in comics, Justice League, and games.
6.Zachi Noy
Zachi Noy was born on 8th July 1953. He is an Israeli actor.
Noy was born in 1953 in Haifa, Israel. At a young age, Noy did stage work for the local Israeli theater. Later, he spent his military service in a military band.
Noy gained much success after he played in the successful 1978 Israeli film Lemon Popsicle which became an Israeli cult film and was followed by a series of sequels.
Over the years Noy also played in a number of Israeli musicals for children such as “Peter Pan”, “The Wizard of Oz” And “Sallah Shabati”, as well as different Israeli entertainment stage shows and several children’s television shows. Noy also participated in dubbing several animated movies into Hebrew – including Space Jam and The Swan Princess.
7.Aviv Alush
Avraham Aviv Alush was born on 12th June 1982. He is an Israeli actor, musician, model, and television host.
He is best known for Beauty and the Baker, an Israeli series, and as Jesus in the American film The Shack, 2017. He also played a leading role in the Israeli series Valley of Tears 2020.
8. Michael Aloni
Michael Mark Aloni was born on 30th January 1984. He is an Israeli actor, director, writer and television presenter.
Aloni was born in Tel Aviv, Israel, to a secular Jewish family. His mother is a lawyer and his father is an accountant. During his military service in the Israel Defense Forces, he served as a Gadna commander in the Marva training program of the Education Corps.
He is known for starring in Shtisel, Out in the Dark and the 2017–2018 series, When Heroes Fly. In April 2018 it won the best series at Canneseries and has been commissioned for a second season. Aloni also hosts the popular reality TV show The Voice Israel.
9. Tomer Kapon
Tomer Capone was born on July 15th 1985. He is an Israeli actor. He has starred in popular Israeli exported television such as Hostages and the political thriller television series Fauda. In 2016 he was awarded an Ophir Award for Best Supporting Actor in One Week and a Day. He stars in When Heroes Fly and in Amazon series The Boys.
He currently stars in the series, When Heroes Fly. He plays a war veteran of a Special Forces unit, reuniting with three friends for one final mission in the Colombian jungle. The thriller series was awarded the prize of Best Series at the Cannes Series festival. The series was recently acquired by Netflix and has been available since early 2019.
In 2017, he was one of several Israeli celebrities who recreated iconic Israeli photos to celebrate the country’s 69th year of independence. Kapon recreated the Life cover of Yossi Ben Hanan after the Six-Day War, which showed him as a young IDF troop triumphantly clutching a rifle while standing in the waters of the Suez Canal.
10.Raviv Ullman
Raviv Chanan “Ricky” Ullman was born on 24th January 1986. He is an Israeli-American actor, director, and musician.
He is best known for playing Phil Diffy, the main character in the Disney Channel series Phil of the Future.
