Rahavard Farahani professionally known as Golshifteh Farahani was born on the 10th of July 1983.

She is an Iranian actress from a family of dabbles in theatre and film. She starred in a 2012 César Award video in the Most Promising Actors category.

Her work in the U.S. film Body of Lies and nude photos in the French Magazine Madame Figaro caused her to leave not to be allowed return and work in Iran since 2009.

Since moving to Âé¶¹APP she has worked with directors Roland Joffé, Huner Saleem and Marjane Satrapi, and many others. She was also a member of the international jury at the 63rd Locarno Film Festival.

1. She attended the renowned Azad university

The Islamic Azad University is the world’s sixth-largest university.

The private university system was approved and ratified by the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution in 1982.

The headquartered since then has been in Tehran, Iran. It is one of the largest comprehensive systems of universities, colleges, and community colleges in the world founded and established by Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani.

It has satellite branches in countries such as Afghanistan, the United Arab Emirates, Lebanon, and England. Golshifteh and her sister Shaghayegh Farahani who majored in painting attended.

2. Her father is a theatre director and actor

Golshifteh’s father Behzad Farahani is an Iranian actor and theatre director. He was born on the 21st of January 1945 in Arak, Iran.

He married stage actress Fahimeh Rahiminia in 1967 and has three daughters Shaghayegh Farahani, Golshifteh Farahani, and Azarakhsh Farahani.

He worked in the film Tootia alongside his daughter Shaghayegh in 1998. He has also appeared in Sheida, Violent Punishment, Journey of the Stone, Wage, Zero Heights, Years of Restlessness, The Kind Moon, and Grey.

3. She was nominated for the Most Promising Actress Award at the Cesar awards

The César Award is the national award considered the highest film honor in France. The award was created by Georges Cravenne and was first awarded in 1976.

It is delivered in the Nuit des César ceremony and in cinema and is the French equivalent of the Academy Award.

The nominations for the award are selected by the members of twelve categories of filmmaking professionals and supported by the French Ministry of Culture.

At the 2014 César Awards Golshifteh was nominated for the Most Promising Actress Award for The Patience Stone.

4. Golshifteh initially studied music and piano

Farahani was born in Tehran Iran. She is the second daughter of Behzad Farahani, screenwriter, actor, and stage actress Fahimeh Rahiminia.

She began studying music and piano at the age of five. She later entered a music school in Tehran.

Farahani also shared a love for theatre and film like her family and at 14 performed in Dariush Mehrjui’s The Pear Tree. She was cast as the lead and won the Best Actress award at the Crystal Roc for this role.

The award was from the International Section of the 16th Fajr International Film Festival in Tehran. The Fajr International Film Festival has been held every February and April on the anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

5. Since 2009 she has not been allowed to return and work in Iran

Golshifteh performed in the Hollywood movie Body of Lies violated Islamic law. She appeared without a hijab which is a compulsory law in Iran since 1981 after the Islamic Revolution in 1979.

Iranian authorities viewed the act as a collaboration with American propaganda it was later reported that the Iranian government authorities had prevented her from leaving the country.

This was later denied by her colleagues and she appeared at the movie’s American premiere.

In January 2012 report claimed Farahani was not welcome in her native Iran after posing nude in the French Magazine Madame Figaro.

A picture from the shoot on her Facebook page initiated a lively debate about her behavior. She had posed for fully nude photographs taken by Paolo Roversi for an Égoïste cover and editorial.

The Iranian government officials had told her that Iran did not need actors or artists like she and she may offer her artistic services somewhere else according to Britain’s Daily Telegraph. She has since then resided in France.

6. She appeared in various famous films

Golshifteh Farahani is one of the most popular international Iranian actresses. She has worked in award a winning fantasy film Pirates of the Caribbean.

Dead Men Tell No Tales as the sea. She gained recognition after her performances in About Elly won Best Picture at the 2009 Tribeca Film Festival and a Silver Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival.

  She has also appeared in M for Mother, Body of Lies, The Patience Stone, Paterson, Girls of the Sun, and Extraction.

In addition, she has played Anna Karenina on stage in Âé¶¹APP and received laudatory reviews in 2016. She also played the lead in director Jim Jarmusch’s American feature film Paterson opposite actor Adam Driver.

7.  Her sister is an actress as well

Farahani has three siblings Shaghayegh Farahani and Azarakhsh Farahani.

Shaghayegh is an Iranian actress as well and is the oldest daughter of veteran Iranian actor Behzad Farahani and stage actress Fahimeh Rahiminia.

She also studied at the Islamic Azad private University in Tehran like her sister.

Shaghayegh Farahani has appeared in films like Tootia, Butterfly in the Wind, Charlatan, The Trial, Bahareh in the Rain, The Sinners, Metropol, and Resurrection Day.

Shaghayegh has also appeared in a few TV productions, including The Pahlavi Hat, Motherly, Matador, and A Beautiful Revolution

8. Farahani is an advocate for tuberculosis

Farahani is not only a professional actress she has been involved in environmental causes.

Golshifteh was an advocate in Iran before she left the country. She participated in aiding the eradication of tuberculosis in Iran. 

This is because TB is a major public health problem in developing countries such as Iran.

Due to the country’s Ministry of Health and Medical Education and other firms, incidences of tuberculosis in Iran have fallen gradually from 22 to 13 cases per 100,000.

9. She has performed at concerts

Golshifteh initially studied music at the age of five. Her passion for music has grown over the years.

She was a member of Kooch Neshin also called the Nomads band in Iran.  The band won the 2nd Tehran Avenue underground rock competition.

After leaving Iran, she collaborated with another exiled Iranian musician called Mohsen Namjoo.

They released an album called Oy in October 2009 and performed it at a concert at the Milan Conservatory on the 10th of August.

Golshifteh is a talented and skilled actress. She has been nominated and won numerous awards for her exceptional skills.

She was awarded Best Actress at the Abu Dhabi Film Festival in 2012, and the Fajr International Film Festival in 1998.

The House of Cinema Festival in 2004, the Kazan International Film Festival in 2006, the Roshd International Film Festival in 2007, the Kazan International Film Festival in 2008, and the Gijón International Film Festival in 2012.

In addition, she won the Eleonora Duse Award at Asolo Film Festival in Italy and the International Cinema Festival in Tehran for Recognition as a Prominent Figure in Theater or Cinema.
