Julie Estelle Gasnier is an Indonesian model and actress who is well known for her roles in international and martial arts movies, such as 鈥楳acabre鈥�, 鈥楾he Raid 2鈥�, and 鈥楾he Night Comes For Us.’

Estelle rose to stardom at 15 years old when she acted in a 2005 romance film 鈥楢lexandria鈥�, taking on the role of a 20-year-old college senior. At 20 years old, Estelle was seventh on Indonesia’s highest-paid actresses list.

This actress is widely known for her excellent acting performance and is widely considered the future queen of action cinema.

1. One of Julie鈥檚 Sibling is an Actress Too 

Julie Estelle is mixed race with Manado, American, Chinese and French ancestry. She was born on 4th January 1989, in Jakarta, Indonesia where she grew up.  

She is the second-born in a family of three children. Their mother, Hilda Limbara is a Chinese-Indonesian and their father, Thiery Gasnier, is a French-American. Her dad is a hotel executive, who started his hospitality career on the food & beverage side. 

Julie has two sisters. The youngest is Charlotte Christie Gasnier and the oldest one is Sophia Catharina Sharon Gasnier (Cathy Sharon) who is an actress and a television host.

2. She attended an International School in Jakarta

Julie attended Lycee International Francais de Jakarta. The institution is an International French school in Jakarta that offers a multilingual and multicultural education in an international environment.  

The school has classes from pre-school through to high school and this is where Julie graduated high school in June 2007, having majored in Business Studies. 

3. Julie Has Starred In Horror Movies 

In 2009, Julie got a role in the horror flick 鈥楳acabre鈥�. It was an Indonesian film in which she played the role of 鈥楲adya鈥� a friend of a newly married couple. It was a remake of a short film named 鈥楧arah.鈥�  

She had done a lead role in another Indonesian horror film 鈥楰untilanak鈥� in 2006. This movie was released in the English language as 鈥楾he Chanting.鈥� 

The story speaks about a kind of black magic, which is used to summon a person witnessed by placing an antique object before. Another two versions of that movie had been released in the preceding year and 2008. 

4. She Was On The Cover of Playboy Magazine

Julie has appeared on tens of Magazine covers. The actress was just 17 when she appeared on the cover of Playboy Magazine’s Indonesian edition in the July 2006 issue. 

5. Julie Also Appears in Music Videos  

Apart from movies, Julie also appears in advertisements and music videos. Some of the music video鈥檚 she appeared in are, 鈥楢kal Sehat鈥�, 鈥楬afizah鈥�, 鈥楲etoy鈥�, 鈥楤idadari鈥�, 鈥楾akkan Ada Aku Lagi鈥�, 鈥楰etahuan鈥� and 鈥楥obalah Mengerti鈥�.

7. 鈥楾he Raid 2鈥� Was Her First Martial Arts Movie

鈥楾he RAID 2鈥�, which was released in 2014 earned her name. It was her first martial arts movie. Julie had never learned martial arts before, it was during her audition that she received martial arts training for four days. The fight moves had been choreographed by Iko and Yayan. 

On the fifth day, her moves were recorded for assessment. After careful consideration, she was given the role. Afterward, she through 8 months of physical training with professional martial arts artists.  

To make the hammer an extension of her, she had to sleep, eat, jog, and do everything else in her daily life with a hammer in her hand. 

Being one with the hammer was essential, which eventually smoothly helped her go through the fighting choreography. 

8. She is an Award-Winning Actress 

Julie has been nominated for awards several times in her career. She won The 2006 MTV Indonesia Awards “Most Favorite Rising Star” for her role in the 2005 romance film Alexandria. 

For her performance in The Raid 2, Estelle received the Best New Actress award at Jackie Chan Action Movie Awards at The 2015 Shanghai International Film Festival. 

9. She Got Married in a Small Intimate Wedding

After their engagement in early 2020, Julie Estelle and her fianc茅 David Tjiptobiantoro planned to have a wedding in France, inviting family members and friends to participate in their celebration of love.  

However, due to the unforeseen spread of COVID-19, they were forced to postpone the plan to the following year. When 2021 finally came, they realized that things were not going to be better than the previous year.  

Borders were still closed due to the pandemic, and family and friends from all over the world could not come for the wedding. The couple couldn鈥檛 postpone the wedding anymore since there was no certainty when the pandemic would be over. 

After a stressful and grueling process of changing their plans, On 25 February 2021, Julie officially married David who is a racer, in the Maldives. The occasion was a small, beautiful, and intimate event that was attended by a few family members and close friends.  

10. Julie Has a Healthy Food Business Named The Kale Tale 

Julie is a businesswoman. She started an all-in-one fashion/lifestyle boutique called 鈥淜iff鈥� with her elder sister Sophia Catharina Sharon Gasnier (Cathy). 

Julie and her younger sister Charlotte Christie Gasnier (Cassie) are quite health conscious. They share a clean eating lifestyle and have two or three days in which they eat only vegetables and fruits.   

Together, the sisters started an organic, healthy food business named The Kale Tale. They have been in business for a few years now and they are expanding.
