Commonly referred to Sardar by friends, Patel was born in Nadiad, Kheda District. A family man, married to Jhaverba and together they had two children, Maniben the daughter and Dahyabhai the son.

Patel never spent most of his time with his family as the was busy pursuing studies to become an advocate.

His achievements included organizing poor people fro Kheda, Borsad and Bardoli in Gujarat. This act of mercy earned him the title of the most influential leader in Gujarat.

In 1934 and 1937, he was promoting the Quit India Movement while he was appointed as the 49th President of Indian National Congress. History was made when he became the first Prime Minister and home minister.

This is basically because he was the leader of the Indian Freedom Movement.

In his honor, there is a stadium that specializes with cricket at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Enclave in Ahmedabad, India.

There is also a museum and a Memorial Centre that in his name. More importantly, they are a remembrance of his contribution to the Indian community.

A statue was also constructed in his memory at the well placed location where all can see.  This was done under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi.

This was not a walk over as he had to lead a movement to acquire Freedom in India. It was not easy for him but he brought together 562 states to for India.

He was awarded the Bharat Ratna’s award in 1991 posthumously. His great achievements are honored even in current leadership of India.

Of importance to note is the name he has been referred to as the India’s iron man.

Formerly called Gujarat Stadium, the ground changed names in honor of the First Home Minister and Deputy Prime Minister.
 
The stadium is famous for cricket and is situated inside the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Enclave in Ahmedabad in India.
 
The stadium is well amanaged by the governmen and has became the home of many Indian sports.

Patel played a very important role in establishing the government of India. In actual fact, he brought together 562 states to build up India. Above all, he was among the major contributors of fighting for India’s independence.

6. Never had interest in politics

Initially, Patel was not interested in politics. However, when he met with Gandhi in 1917, his view of politics changed. The meeting began the turn of events as he left his job and joined the Independence struggle.

7. Never remarried after his wife died

His wife Jhaverba passed away when he was only 33 years old. He loved her to an extent that he did not get married again after hr death. He remained single until his death and was comfortable with widower’s life.

8. The Statue of Unity

Prime Minister Modi recognized Sardar’s input into developing the nation of India until he established a statue in his memory. The location of the statue was well articulated at the banks of the Narmada River.

The statue is the tallest in the world with 182m (597ft)high. Also the cost of building it was high at Rs 2,989 crore.

In total, the structure is 240m (790ft). It has a base of 58m (190ft). The statue measuring 182m was chosen to match the number of seats in the Gujarat Legislative Assembly.

A great man indeed in the history of India.

9. His birthday a National Unity Day

The most surprising thing is that the government of India recognizes his efforts to built their nation and set aside his birth date as a special day. The day is called National Unity Day for the nationals to celebrate their great hero.

It was interesting how he became the ‘Iron Man’. First, he represented India on the Partition Council. Secondly, he was given the mandate to integrate India into one state from 562 princely states.

The task was huge but it placed it well. This gave birth to one united India as a nation.

It goes down in history that Sardar Callabhbhai Patel was a great achiever for his nation. He exhibited a good role as a family man by not marrying again after he death of his wife, Jhaverba.

His fight for the freedom of India as a nation is celebrated even today. The evidence is in the celebration of his birth date as a National Unity Day.

Furthermore, his participation in promoting the Quit India Movement while he was appointed as the 49th President of Indian National Congress was a major achievement in India acquiring freedom. The name of the movement as ‘India Freedom Movement.

The recognition of his achievements are seen when he was voluntarily given an office as the first Prime Minister and home minister.

The protection of the vulnerable in the society in particular women and the needy made the citizens recognize him more.

In his honor, the nation of India recognizes his input in a great way. Therefore, they have built a stadium, a memorial centre and a statue places in key areas in his honor.
