Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar was born on 14th April 1891.  He was born as the  14th child of Ramji Maloji Sakpal who was an army officer. His family, came from the current town of Maharashtra, formerly known as Ambasawe, Ratnagiri district.

During those days, his family was among the untouchables in terms of socio economics discrimination. This is because his father worked for the British East India Company army.

As children, they ere not allowed to be in class or share food with the children the higher class. The discrimination was so bad such that if they needed to drink water, someone from the higher castle had to pour the water on them. Despite all the odds, he was the No.1 scholar in the world.

He became the champion of academic when when pursued PhD and made history by being the first person from South Asia to hold a PhD in Economics.

His education background at the University of Mumbai  where he acquire a BA. He progressed to Columia University where he earned an an MA, PhD, LL.D. He also pursued an MSc, DSC and the School of Economics in the same institution.

This was a great achievement taking into account the discrimination he had suffered in his younger years.

However, these challenges did not discourage him. The situation motivated him to pursue education and this is what earned him a PhD. He had a personal library.

He was an Indian Jurist and economist concurrently. He headed the committee that drafted the Constitution of India from the Constituent Assembly debates.

He served as a Law and Justice minister the first cabinet of Jawaharlal Nehru. Of importance to note is his inspiration in Dalit Duddhist movement after renouncing Hinduism.

He is also the author of “No peon, No Water”, a situation which reflected his early years in school. He has another booked called “Waiting for a Visa”

1. First Doctorate (PhD) as an Indian

His accomplishment in academics earned him the first PhD holder in the filed of Economics as an Indian from abroad.

Actually, he was the first person in the world to receive a doctorate degree called “Doctor of All Science” from the London School of Economics. This was the most sort doctorate.

It was fulfilling for him. The government sort him to became a leader in Law and in politics.

Interestingly, his statue is he only one attached to Karl Marx in London Museum. Apart from the this statue, there are other in Japan, Sri Krishnadevaraya University, Anantapur, Thogaram, Amadalavalasa mandal.

3. His Surname changed

The school records had a different name from his name. This came as a result of his teacher, Mahadev Ambedkar gave him the name Ambedkar. This is very unusual yet very unique to him.

He adapted the new name and moved on with a name from the school records.

4. Input to India’s Tricolour

He contributed into the Indian Tricolour giving place to Ashok Chakra. However, the National flag was designed by Pingali Venkayya. A great mind with big ideas.

Prof. Amartya, a Nobel Prize winner respected Dr. Ambedkar as his father in economics. This was a great attainment to Dr. Ambedkar as his name was recognized in the world. His practice in economics, politics and law.

6. His Personal Library

Dr. Ambedkar had his own library that has more then 50,000 books. This went into the world record as the largest private library. As a scholar and high achiever, a library was the best thing he did to help his society. Most importantly, he library reached out to the poor communities.

Among the books he authored was “Waiting for a Visa”. Another books is “No peon, No Water”, a reflection of what he went through during his early days in school.

His name was in the list of World’s top 100 scholars in at Columbia University. This was in the year 2004.

8. Top Master of Languages

In almost 21 years, Dr. Ambedkar master 64 subjects. Moreover, he had knowledge of the following languages:Hindi, Persian, Gujarati, English, French, German, Marathi, Pali and Sanskrit.

He had a lot of wisdom. He meant to understand all the religions of the world hence studied all in a comprehensive way.

9. He Became a Buddhism

He converted into Buddhism with his followers who number 850,000. This was the largest conversion in the world history.

He was converted by Mahant Veer Chandramani, a great Buddhist monk. He referred to him as the modern Buddha of the time.

10. World Record of the Highest Number of Songs

Among the world record holders of people with a great number of songs, Dr. Ambedkar tops the list.

The achievements of Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar were instrumental in the academic line.

Being the first PhD holder in Economics was a major achievement which placed his country, India in a high position in the world.

Dr. Ambedkar will always be remembered in India for being the first to achieve a PhD and also the first jurist.

Also, he was in the committee that drafted the Constitution. In other words, he played an instrumental role in defining the constitution of India.

He fought for the rights of the Dalits. He was the law minister of India after independence.

He was a good mentor as seen in his recognition by one of the world Nobel prize winners, Prof. Amartya.

It went into history books that he converted into Buddhism with his largest number of followers to be recorded in the world.
