Wallace Chung Hon-Leung is a Hong Kong actor of Hakka ancestry, best known for his work on Chinese television dramas. He was born  on 30 November 1974. Chung ranked 68th on Forbes China Celebrity 100 list in 2013,94th in 2014,45th in 2015, 31st in 2017.

1.His first appearance was in the Hong Kong TVB biographical television drama The Chord to Victory in 1993

After joining the network as a dancer, he made his debut in the 1993 Hong Kong TVB biographical television drama The Chord to Victory as Kenny Bee, a member of The Wynners. Due to the duration of the contract, he declined the chance to accept a 5-year contract and eventually left. Chung traveled to Taiwan in 1995 to pursue a singing career under the direction of record producer Samuel Tai, eventually earning a contract with Music Impact.

2.He was the only Hong Kong actor nominated for a China TV  Golden Eagle Award

The China Golden Eagle Awards are one of three major national award ceremonies in China that recognize achievement in the television industry. The China Television Artists Association bestows the award.

Chung rose to prominence in mainland China after appearing in the television series Imminent Crisis, for which he was the only Hong Kong actor nominated for a China TV Golden Eagle Award. He rose to prominence in 2015 with the smash romance drama My Sunshine, for which he received the Asia Grand Star Award at the Seoul International Drama Awards. 

3. He signed with the Taiwanese record label Music Impact

Chung was recommended by Taiwanese music producers and signed with the record label Music Impact in 1995. In July of that year, he released his first solo album, OREA. The title tune swiftly rose to No. 1 and remained there for several weeks. By Your Side, his second album, was released in December. Taiwanese media dubbed him Taiwan’s “Little Sun” after his successful debut and entry into the entertainment sector.

4. He moved to the Mainland to focus on his acting career

Chung relocated to the Mainland in 1999 to focus on his acting career. In the same year, he made his television debut as a leading man in the wuxia drama Windstorm. Chung appeared as a guest star in the pan-Asian popular drama Meteor Garden in 2001.

5. He won the Best Male Stage Performance at Beijing Pop Music Awards

The Beijing Pop Music Awards, originally known as the Chinese Music Radio Awards from 2000 to 2006, are a Chinese music awards launched in 1993 by Beijing Music Radio to celebrate Chinese popular music. 

Chung’s eleventh Mandarin album, All Eyes On Me, was released in January 2010. The album topped the charts in mainland China when it was released in October, and Chung won Best Male Stage Performance at the Beijing Pop Music Awards.  Chung won the award again in 2011, this time for his track “One Day We Will Grow Old.” The song was also chosen one of the year’s top ten songs. In October 2011, he presented his debut solo concert in Shanghai’s Luwan Gymnasium, named “Wallace S-Party Concert.” 

6 He is called Xiao Wa (Little Wa)

Wallace’s Chinese nickname is Xiao Wa, which is derived from the sound of the first two letters of his English name. Some fans perceive it as a visceral reaction because when they see Wallace for the first time, they exclaim “Wa!”

7. He likes to read books in the studio, because it can help to improve acting skills

Wallace dislikes using smart phones in the studio. He believes it would spoil the vibe on set. In order to perform successfully in costume dramas, he memorize many Tang period poems and read many Chinese classics. He feels that reading can help you develop your acting skills, especially if you need to play a character who is far removed from your own life or from another age.

8. He admires Nalan Xingde the most after playing many roles in costume dramas

Wallace stated that he admires Nalan Xingde because he never interacted with other nobility, he liked to debate poetry with individuals who shared his interests, he had an aristocratic upbringing and a great moral character, but he ignored his reputation and money. That is something I greatly admire. He sincerely hope that one day I can be that kind of person as well.’

8. He has a special relationship with his mother

His mother drew a Minna No Tabo for him on one of his birthdays. Wallace was always drawing strange dolls for his mother. They exchange verbal confessions, and he will provide voice recordings to his mother. He enjoys using this method to record anything he wants to say, as well as to compose music or lyrics.

9. He became immersed in the entertainment industry as a result of his family’s financial difficulties

His family’s business was in trouble when he was 16 years old. As a result, he began working part-time as a newspaper delivery guy. He did not want to be a burden to his parents once he became 19, so he dropped out of college and enrolled to be trained as a dancer at TVB. Out of hundreds of candidates, he got selected with 29 others due to his talent. He also made it through a year of grueling training to be one of the six finalists.

10. He was ‘Frozen’ twice

Wallace appeared in two TVB dramas while he was 20 years old. His acting ability was recognized, and he was approached to sign a five-year deal, which he declined owing to the duration of the contract. As a result, he was frozen for six months and can only present a weekly TV show.

His career was thriving in Taiwan at the age of 25. He was debating whether he should return to Hong Kong or enter the Mainland China business. However, due to contractual concerns, he was missing for 5 years, with no songs to record. New faces kept appearing, progressively diminishing his appeal.
