Top 10 Outstanding Facts about Moalboal Sirao Flower Farm

Moalboal Sirao Flower Farm is a flower farm located in a mountain Barangay just few minutes from JY, Lahug, Cebu City.Sometimes known as “Mini Amsterdam鈥� the flower farm is attracting tourists from all over the country and even foreigners.

It all started when a couple planted flowering plants to be harvested and sold on All Soul鈥檚 Day but in the process realized that their garden is attracting visitors so they decided not to cut them at all. The incursion of tourists encouraged them to plant more. 

Let’s take a look at some of the most outstanding fact about it;

1.The main flowers grown in the farm are the Celosia flowers

Since tulips and hyacinths are hard to grow in a hot climate, celosia flowers are grown in Sirao Flower Farm instead. These flowers are as colorful and attractive as the tulips.Celosia is the main flower grown in Sirao Flower Farm but aside from it, other variety of flowers are grown in the farm.These flowers include sunflower, chrysanthemum, daisy and aster. 

These flowers provide a perfect edge for picture taking. The Celosia flower is considered to be a genus of edible and ornamental plants of the Amaranth family, Amaranthaceae. Its name was derived from the Ancient Greek word 鈥渒岣條eos鈥� which means 鈥渂urning鈥� and it refers to its flame-like flower heads.

2.There are several transportation systems one can use to get to Sirao flower farm

There are several transportation systems one can use to get to Sirao flower farm including; Taking a ride in a cab or jeepney going to JY in Lahug, Cebu City from any point in Cebu. In JY, there are lots of motorcycles for hire (habal-habal) that conducts regular trips going to the flower farm.

Fare is more or less Php300.00 per person. One can also use a taxi ride which is also an option but it is way more expensive than the motorcycles. When booked in a private city tour (with a car), a little negotiation with the tour company can be made with an additional fee to get to Sirao flower farm. 

3.Sirao garden had Celosias flowers long before other flower gardens 

Long before other flower gardens opened and touted Celosias as attractions, Sirao Garden already had these fiery blooms and became famous for them.It has since become one of the most visited and photographed places in Philippines. 

That’s one of the reasons Sirao Garden, is best known for its Celosias, which look like bright flames, usually in red and yellow. Its name in Greek actually means 鈥渂urning.鈥� The Celosias has come to be known as the Sirao flower farm’s most important asset. 

4.The farm’s owner Elena Sy Chua was a former flight attendant

Sirao Garden鈥檚 owner Elena Sy Chua was a former flight attendant who loved flowers more so the Celosians and she actually sold cut Celosias for occasions.She used to sell most of her flowers until she realized a large number of people visiting the area because of its flowers. 

After the garden of Celosias drew attention from tourists, she decided to keep a garden and open it to the public. She also decided that the tourists on her farm could take pictures and view the farm at a fee. It has since become one of the most visited sites. 

5.The flower garden’s area and other great Spots have since been added

The flower garden’s area and other great Spots have since been added. Spots which are great for picture taking have been added  and the flower garden in the area has also expanded to 1.2 hectares. 

These spots include; a Volkswagen which is parked in the farm and provides a great photo opportunity, a giant sunflower for picture taking, humongous palm, a nest, Twin windmills, there are also performers at the entrance now. 

6.There are several hotels and restaurants near the Sirao flower farm 

There are several big hotels where one can get services like accommodation near the Sirao flower farm including; 26th Avenue Guesthouse, The Nest @ Cebu, Giswold Beach Resort Joyful Island Hostel, Lot 8 Serviced Apartments. These hotels are just a few miles away from the Sirao flower farm. 

There are also restaurants around where one can catch food and snacks before, while and after visiting the flower farm/garden. They include; Sirao Flower Garden, Cebu Lumpia House and Restaurant, Tajimaya Charcoal Grill, Ramen Doj, Ramen Nobushi and Aise.

They made it beautiful as the expectations of all guest coming here and it is worth to visit. Outside the gardens there are lots of stalls selling foods, drinks, souvenirs, etc. It鈥檚 a gorgeous place and every flower is in great health, it is also very well looked after.

They are constantly working to make it better because that鈥檚 what a good business owner does. It鈥檚 definitely worth a short , enjoyable drive from city and especially on motorcycle. 

8.One can also go there to relax their minds

One can also go there to relax their mind in the relaxing day at the Sirao Flower Garden and temples. But if you can combine a few attractions together, then well worth a visit.

I would recommend spending about 1-2 hours just walking round, looking at the different flower displays and taking plenty of photos.Relaxing one’s mind is one of the best ways to relief any work or family related stress. 

9.The designs at Sirao garden considers maintenance sequence of bloom

As flowers in Sirao gardens bloom at varying times of the year, and some plants are annuals, dying each winter, the design of Sirao gardens usually takes into consideration maintaining a sequence of bloom and consistent color combinations through varying seasons.

Besides organizing the flowers in bedding-out schemes limited to annual and perennial flower beds, careful design also takes the labour time, and the color pattern of the flowers into account.

10.The Cerosia flowers the farm is known for are edible flowers

The Cerosia flowers is the most significant flower in this garden and one of the most loved. You will be amazed to know that the flower is an edible flower, parts of it are used in the stew and soups.

Sirai garden is the most visited spot and for all the right reasons, the staff there are also friendly to the visitors. The garden is 8,000-square-meter, which is huge and they have a lot of species of flowers.
