Najib Razak was born on July 23 1953 and was the 6th prime minister of Malaysia between 2009 and 2018. His career blossomed at an early age but later on faced a lot of challenges. This article will look at 10 interesting facts about Najib Razak to give the reader a deeper insight into his life.
1 He was born into a political Family

Najib was born to a powerful and wealthy family. Mr Najibs father, Abdul Razak Hussein was prime minister from 1970 to 1976 and Uncle Hussein was a prime minister from 1976 to 1981. His father was famously Economical. Najib’s maternal grandfather was an Investor in Malaya’s First Casino.
He helped found the country’s ruling party which has headed the very government since Independence from Britain in 197.
2 He likes to play golf
Najib Razak despite being a successful politician also enjoys playing Golf, He was known to have played Golf with the two most recent Us presidents. Barak Obama and Donald Trump. Najib was on his own gate away in Hawaii and that is where they got to put their golf skills to action. Najib along with aides Joe Paulsen and Mike Brush got to play with Obama at the course at the marine corp Base at Kaneohe Bay.
Donald Trump refers to Najib as his “Favourite MP”. Some years back former president Donald Trump and Najib partnered to play a golf game and they won. The BBC news previously reported that Mr Trump is Mr Najibs “Golfing Buddy”.
3 He Loves eating

Najib Razak has admitted to loving eating He says that he can eat any cuisine whether it is Eastern, Western or Middle Eastern as long as the food is delicious. This has restricted him to discipline a bit on his food intake. Najib believes there has to be a balanced life to be able to do what is required to obtain physical, emotional and mental fitness.
Najib has his own trainers but sometimes due to a packed and busy schedule, he finds no free time. He enjoys watching sports on TV which calms his thoughts and when he finds just a tiny free time he plays Golf.
4 Rising Star
Najib original embraced fiercely Pro-Mayal estimates. He later softened and said that his goal as the prime minister would be to ensure fairness among all ethnic groups. He studied Economics in College and early in his career he smoothed relations between the government and the hereditary ruling class in the Pahang region. He became the Prime minister after replacing his deceased father
He was seen as one of the rising stars in the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO). He also served in various cabinet ministry seats.
5 Accused of one of the major scandals

Najib was accused of a multibillion-dollar scandal and became the first prime minister to be convicted. He was found guilty of corruption and sentenced to 12 years in Prison in the 1Malaysia Development Berhand. One of the largest money –Laundering scandals in History. The case described a corruption, bribery and money laundering conspiracy in which Malaysian Sovereign wealth fund 1Malaysian Development Berhad was systematically embezzled.
The court has also sentenced him to 10 years in Jail on charges of criminal breach of trust and money laundering for illegally receiving nearly 10 million from the former Malaysia Development Branch.
6 Fall out of Power
Due to Najib’s various subsidiary cuts, the living cost of the people of Malaysia deteriorated. The fallout of the 1MDB Scandal led to a depreciation of the Malaysian Currency. The situation ended in the loss of the 2018 General Election.
Najib made peace with the defeat and promised to help facilitate a smooth transition of power. On 3rd July Najib was arrested by the Malaysian Anti-corruption Commission. The sentence was upheld by the Federal court on 23rd August 2022. He is currently serving his sentence at Kajang Prison.
7 He is honoured and respected

Najib is honoured and respected not only in Malaysia but all over the world. Several places are named after him, Some of the places include Dewan Kenangan Dato Seri Najib Razak, a village hall in Kampung Selamat, Sik Kedah and Dewan PM Najib, a community Centre in Taman Belukar Maju, Kuantan, Pahang.
He also received different honours both from Malaysia and Foreign countries. Some of the honours include Grand Night of the order of Sultan Ahmad Shah of Pahang (SSAP)-Dato Sri (1985), Knight Grand Commander of the Premier and Exalted Order of Malacca (DUNM)-Datuk Seri Utama (2007). The United Arab Emirates, order of the Union Medal-2014 among others.
8 The daughter is married to the Nephew of a former Kazakhstani President
Najib’s daughter Nooryana is married to the Nephew of former Kazakhstani President, Nursuitan Nazarbayev. Najib married his first wife, Kui Yie and they had three children together. The first child is Mohd Nizar Najib the second born is Mohd Nazifuddin Najib who is a businessman and finally the third born is Puteri Norlisa Najib.
They divorced in 1987 and married Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor and they had two children together. Mohd Norashman Najib and Nooryana Najwa Njib.
9 Youngest Deputy Minister in the country
Najib was the first to be assigned to the cabinet of Malaysia which is the executive branch of the Government of Malaysia at the age of 25. This allowed him to become the youngest deputy Minister in the country. He was appointed Deputy Minister of Energy, Telecommunication and Post.
He also become the Youngest Chief Minister to enter office when he was sworn in at the age of 29. This was between 1982 and 1986. He was appointed as Minister of culture youth and sports. He was passionate to improve Malaysian sport and he ensured this came to pass in 1988 when he introduced the National Sports Policy in 1989.
10 Resigned from two posts on the same day
Najib decided to resign from UMNO and Barisan National on the same day, this was after the country’s mood turned on him. Najib had accepted the defeat and agreed to help smoothen the transition of power.
A flight manifested and upon the orders of Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, a travelling ban was imposed. This was after it was stated that Najib and his wife Rosmah were taking a private jet to Halim Perdanakusuma International Airport in Jakarta. The ban prevented them from travelling out of the county.
