Netta Barzilai also mononymously known as Netta was born on 22 January 1993. she is an Israeli singer-songwriter, a looping artist, and a musician. She is the winner of the fifth season, of a reality singing competition, HaKokhav HaBa.
It’s because she won the competition that she scooped first place and so she was chosen to represent Israel in the 63rd edition Eurovision Song Contest of 2018. The competition took place in Lisbon Portugal. Netta won the Eurovision Song Contest with her song”Toy” by Doron and Stav Beger, earning 529 points from two rounds.
1. Netta was targeted for bullying when she was a child
When she was ten, Netta would often get bullied by her fellow students because she was obese. The critics lowered her self-esteem from other students. Even though her self-awareness of music was quite superb, she decided to pursue teaching in a kindergarten or study psychology instead.
She was not a popular child. Even though the music was in her soul, she did not stand a chance to perform in the crowd because she considered herself unfit for the activity. She learned music from local lullabies sung to her and her brothers by their Nigerian nanny.
2. She is born to a Jewish family
Netta was born in Hod HaSharon in Israel. Her mother is from a Maghrebi Jewish family or North African Jews while her father is from an Ashkenazi Jewish family. Ashkenazi Jews are a Jewish diaspora population who united in the Holy Roman Empire around the end of the first millennium. Their traditional language is Yiddish which is also used in Western German and also has Jews linguistic with the Hebrew alphabet.
North African Jews are native Jews who lived in the Maghreb region of North Africa before the arrival of Shephard Jews from Portugal and Spain. Assumptions can be made that Netta is a Jew by Blood because her parents are Jews.
3. Music is in the blood of her family members
Despite the fact that Netta is the one who gained an international reputation by winning consecutively from the fifth season of HaKhokav HaBa and the Eurovision Song Contest on 12th May 2018, her brothers also venture into music-related careers. 5. Netta became a celebrity after the Eurovision Song Contest
She began appearing around the world between pride parades across Europe and TV programs in the United States. In 2019, she began performing in the show “Pop Up Music 2″ with personalities such as Omer Adam, Keren Peles, and Moshe Peretz. She set a record the same year when she appeared before 500 million television viewers and tens of thousands of live audiences when he appeared at the Zhejiang Satellite TV Autumn Festival in China.
In February 2020, she released the song” Ricki Lake”. She also participated in the new version of the program” We will not stop Singing” where she won the competition. 6. Netta’s win marked fourth in Israel’s History in Eurovision Song Contest
In 1978, Israel won the 23rd edition Eurovision Song Contest with the song ‘A-Ba-Na-Bi” by Izhar Cohen and the Alphabeta. In 1979, Israel again won the 24th Eurovision Song Contest that took place in Jerusalem, Israel because Israel was the defending Champion of the previous contest. It was the first time the competition was held outside Europe. Israel again won the competition with the song”Hallelujah” performed by the Israel group, Milk and Honey featuring Gali Atari.
In 1998, Israel won the 43rd Edition of the Eurovision Song Contest that took place in Birmingham, United Kingdom with the song “Love Shine A Light” by Katrina and the Waves. In May 2018, Netta also won the Contest as the fourth winner in Israel’s History.
7. Netta sang all her songs in English
All the songs: Rude Boy by Rihanna, Hey Mama by Guetta, Wannabe by Spicy Girls, Gangnam Style by Psy, and Tik Tok by Kesha are all sung in English. The only exception comes in the song” Toy” by Doron Medalie and Stav Beger which was sung in English except for a phrase in Hebrew.
8. Netta is patriotic
She joined military service in the Israel Defence forces and spent a service year in a program for Israel High school graduates prior to their service in IDF which is abbreviated Shin-Shin. She studied electronic musical Rimon after completing her military service in the Israel Navy Band.
9. Netta is pride free
After experiencing a successful career while still in her twenties, Netta has no record of where she ever collided with anybody. She keeps her life at low key including her relationship.
10. She still maintains her big body
It is because of her big body that she always got ridiculed by her fellow students, to the extent that she always completely lost her self-esteem in pursuing music as her career. Actually, she still has her body intact and she loves herself as she sings in the song ” Toy” where she says ” look at me am a beautiful creature, I don’t care about your modern time creatures.” She really appreciates and accepts herself and she is no toy to any boy.
