The best Michelin star chefs in the world


 

A chef is a trained professional cook and tradesman who is proficient in all aspects of food preparation, often focusing on a particular cuisine. The word “chef” is derived from the term chef de cuisine.

Chefs can receive formal training from an institution, as well as by apprenticing with an experienced chef. In our highlights, you’ll meet chefs like Yannick Alléno who were mentored by skilled chefs. In the article are the best Michelin star chefs in the world.

1. Gordon James Ramsay

Gordon James Ramsay was born on 8 November 1966. He is a British chef, restaurateur, television personality, and writer. His restaurant group, Gordon Ramsay Restaurants, was founded in 1997 and has been awarded 16 Michelin stars overall.

His signature restaurant, Restaurant Gordon Ramsay in Chelsea, London, has held three Michelin stars since 2001. After rising to fame on the British television miniseries Boiling Point in 1999, Ramsay became one of the best-known and most influential chefs in the United Kingdom.

Ramsay’s television appearances are defined by his bluntness, fiery temper, strict demeanor, and frequent use of profanity. Ramsay combines activities in the television, film, hospitality, and food industries, and has promoted and hired various chefs who have apprenticed under his wing.

2. Alain Ducasse

Alain Ducasse was born on 13 September 1956. Alain is a French chef. He operates several restaurants including Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester which holds three stars in the Michelin Guide.

Ducasse became the first chef to own restaurants carrying three Michelin Stars in three cities. The New York restaurant was dropped from the 2007 Michelin Guide because the restaurant was scheduled to close.

Ducasse has become known through his writing and influences. Ducasse is also only one of two chefs to hold 21 Michelin stars throughout his career.

3. Martín Berasategui Olazábal

Martín Berasategui Olazábal was born on 27 April 1960. He is a Spanish chef expert in Basque cuisine and the owner of an eponymous restaurant in Lasarte-Oria, Spain. Since 2001 it has been awarded three Michelin stars. He holds twelve stars in total, more than any other Spanish chef.

He started working at his parent’s restaurant at the age of 14. When he reached 17 he was sent to France to train as a pastry chef. At the age of 20, he took over his parents’ restaurant and earned his first Michelin star there by the age of 25. Berasategui opened his eponymous restaurant in Lasarte-Oria in 1993.

4. Anne-Sophie Pic

Anne-Sophie Pic was born on 12 July 1969. Anne is a French chef best known for regaining three Michelin stars for her restaurant, Maison Pic, in southeast France. She is the fourth female chef to win three Michelin stars.

Anne-Sophie Pic was named the Best Female Chef by The World’s 50 Best Restaurants in 2011. She currently holds 10 Michelin stars. In 1992, at the age of 23, was when Anne started training on how to become a chef under her father’s guidance.

Anne-Sophie Pic is one of the very motivated chefs in the world. She had a strong urge to continue with her father’s legacy after his death three months later when she returned to Maison Pic to become a chef. She did not want to lose her father’s star as the best chef.

5. Yannick Alléno

Yannick Alléno was born 16 December 1968. Sjhe is a French chef who operates the restaurants Pavillon Ledoyen and L’Abysse in Âé¶¹APP and Le 1947 in Courchevel. He has been awarded six Michelin stars in his career.

Yannick studied how to become a chef at the restaurant Drouant. He studied under Chef Louis Grondard. His first lesson was the Scribe kitchens. Of course, this was not his first time working closely with experienced chefs. Yannick had also worked with chefs Roland Durand and Martial Henguehardm.

6. Seiji Yamamoto

Seiji Yamamoto was born on 1970. Yamamoto is a Japanese chef, who holds seven Michelin stars at his restaurant Nihonryori RyuGin. His restaurant has been named in The World’s 50 Best Restaurants, while he has placed fifth in Le Chef’s list of the best chefs in the world.

Yamoto’s first experience of cooking was at 11 years old when he made a dish of vegetables and rice at school. This impressed his mother who would cook with him frequently.

Yamamoto’s food has been described as a combination of the Japanese Kaiseki with elements of molecular gastronomy, although he does not use those descriptors himself.

7. Joël Robuchon

Joël Robuchon was born on 7 April 1945. He was a French chef and restaurateur. He was named “Chef of the Century” by guide Gault Millau in 1989. He was awarded the Meilleur Ouvrier de France in cuisine in 1976.

Joël Robuchon published several cookbooks, two of which have been translated into English, chaired the committee for the Larousse Gastronomique, and hosted culinary television shows in France.

He operated more than a dozen restaurants across Bangkok, Bordeaux, Hong Kong, Las Vegas, London, Macau, Monaco, Montreal, Âé¶¹APP, Shanghai, Singapore, Taipei, Tokyo, and New York City. His restaurants have been acclaimed, and in 2016 he held 32 Michelin Guide stars among them, the most any restaurateur has ever held.

8. Heinz Beck

Heinz Beck was born on 3 November 1963. He is a German-born, three-Michelin starred chef and a founder of The Order of the Knights of Italian Cuisine. Beck spent his early culinary history cooking in restaurants such as Tantris in Munich, Tristán in Mallorca, and Residenz Heinz Winkler in Aschau, Germany.

Beck came to the Rome restaurant La Pergola in 1994 and became executive chef at the restaurant. Between 2009 and 2013, Beck ran the restaurant Apsley’s, A Heinz Beck restaurant in London, which had received a Michelin star.

Beck opened a new restaurant inside the Brown Hotel in London in April 2018. This was after launching a pop-up restaurant in the same location with sommelier Salvator Calabrese in November 2017.

9. Massimo Bottura

Massimo Bottura was born on 30 September 1962. He is an Italian restaurateur and the chef patron of Osteria Francescana, a three-Michelin-star restaurant based in Modena, Italy. The restaurant is listed in the top 5 at The World’s 50 Best Restaurants Awards since 2010.

Massimo’s restaurant received top ratings from L’Espresso, Gambero Rosso, and the Touring Club guides. After first winning the 50 Best Restaurants in 2016 Bottura announced the refettorio that he had established in Milan the year before would continue and went on to form the cultural foundation Food for Soul.

10. Clare Smyth

Clare Smyth was born in 1978. Clare is a Northern Irish chef. She is the Chef Patron of three Michelin-starred Core by Clare Smyth which opened in 2017. Previously she was Chef Patron at Restaurant Gordon Ramsay from 2012 to 2016 and won the Chef of the Year award in 2013.

Clare achieved a perfect score in the 2015 edition of the Good Food Guide. Smyth has also appeared on television shows such as Masterchef and Saturday Kitchen. Smyth also notably catered at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s 2018 wedding.

Those are the only ten world’s best Michelin star chefs that we managed to specially highlight. By the list am very sure that those keeping a low profile on their cooking styles because of their gender should come out.
