10 Most Famous Japanese Prime Ministers


 

Japan was one of the countries involved in the Second World War from 1939 to 1945 where they got involved from 1940. After their defeat, it has now been 65 years, having been led by 32 ministers since then.

The Prime Ministers were leading for the benefit of the country with different character traits and different styles of delivering service. The following is a list of the most famous Japanese Prime Ministers.

1. Yoshihide Suga

Yoshihide Suga is a member of the House of Representatives of Japan. He was born on the 6th of December, 1948 in Ogachi district, Akita Japan.

His political affiliation is the Liberal Democratic Party where he is also the president of that political party after taking over from Abe Shinzo.

Other than succeeding Shinzo’s presidency of the party, he had also served under him in his second administration as the Chief Cabinet Secretary. Yoshihide is married to Mariko Suga. He is currently age 73 years.

2. Hideki Tojo

Hideki Tojo was born on the 30th of December, 1884 in Kojimachi-Ku. He was the general of the Imperial Japanese Army and served as a prime minister of Japan.

He was also the president of the Imperial Rule Association for a certain period during World War II.

He was married to Katsuko Tojo and had several children.

Hideki was also a convicted criminal of war, found guilty after being tried by the International Military Tribunal for the Far East, and he died in Sugamo Prison on the 23rd of December 1948.

He was responsible for more than five million deaths during the Second World War and many more violent practices.

3. Fumimaro Konoe

Fumimaro was born on the 12th of October, 1891 in Kojimachi-Ku. He was married to Chiyoko Konoe and had 4 children.

He was the Prime Minister of Japan during the China invasion and presided over it as well as the breakdown in the United States’ relation with Japan which led to japan’s entry into the Second World War.

He was one of the diplomats who proposed the Racial Equality Proposal for the Covenant of the League of Nations. Fumimaro died on the 16th of December, 1945 in Tokyo, Japan.

4. Shinzo Abe

Shinzo Abe is the longest-serving Prime Minister in Japan and is a member of the House of Representatives of Japan. He was born on the 21st of September, 1954 in Shinjuku city, Tokyo Japan. His spouse was Akie Abe. 

He was also the President of the Liberal Democratic Party. During his service, he received the Padma Vibhushan awards. He was also the youngest Prime Minister since Fumimaro Konoe in 1941.

His party lost a House of Councillors election. Shortly after, he resigned from office due to medical complications, suffering from ulcerative colitis, having served for a year only. As the Prime Minister, he signed the economic strategy of ‘Abenomics’.

He is currently 67 years old. 

5. Junichiro Koizumi

Junichiro Koizumi was the Japanese Prime Minister and served as President of the Liberal Democratic Party. He was born on the 8th of January, 1942 in Yokosuka, Kanagawa Japan.

He is married to Kayoko Miyamoto and is a Member of the House of Representatives of Japan since 1972. He stepped down from leadership without choosing a successor.

He then retired from politics in 2009. He is currently 80 years old.

6. Taro Aso

Taro Aso was born on the 20th of September, 1940 in Lizuka, Fukuoka Japan. He is married to Chikako Aso since 1983.

He served as the Prime Minister of Japan, deputy prime minister, and minister of finance. He was also a vice president of the Liberal Democratic Party.

He has been elected as a Member of the House of Representatives of Japan 10 times. He is currently 81 years old.

7. Nobusuke Kishi

Nobusuke was a Japanese politician and a bureaucrat. He was born on the 13th of November, 1894 in Tabuse, Yamaguchi Japan.

He is the maternal grandfather to Shinzo Abe. He was a member of the Liberal Democratic Party but was earlier a member of the Imperial Rule Assistance Association.

Nobusuke was married to Yoshiko who died in 1980 and they had two children. He died on the 7th of December, 1987 in Tokyo, Japan.

8. Yasuhiro Nakasone

Yasuhiro was a Japanese Politician born on the 27th of May, 1918 in Takasaki, Gunma Japan and married to Tsutako Nakasone. With her they had only one child.

He was a Member of the House of Representatives of Japan for more than 50 years. He was also a Prime Minister and served as the president of the Liberal Democratic Party for 5 years. 

He wrote and published several books like Engineering Analysis with ANSYS software. Yasuhiro died on the 29th of November, 2019 in Tokyo, Japan at the age of 101 years.

9. Yoshihiko Noda

Yoshihiko Noda is a Member of the House of Representatives of Japan and served as the Prime Minister from 2011 to 2012. He was born on the 20th of May, 1957 in Funabashi, Chiba Japan, and married Hitomi Noda in 1992.

He is a member of the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan. He was a senior vice minister of finance in 2009 and 2010. He is currently 64 years old.

10. Shigeru Yoshida

Shigeru Yoshida was a diplomat, politician, and served as a prime minister of Japan who is one of the longest served prime ministers.

He was born on the 22nd of September, 1878 in Yokosuka, Kanagawa Japan.

He was one of the Liberal Party members and he was married to Yukiko Yoshida from 1909 to 1941. He is recalled of his concentration upon the construction domestic economy of Japan relying on the United States’ security alliance.

He died on the 20th of October, 1967 in Tokyo, Japan.

The listed Prime Ministers are the top 10 most famous Japanese Prime Ministers. Most of them were of the Liberal Democratic Party political affiliation.

The main improvements noted with the prime ministers are mainly focused on the economy and security of Japan. It is also clear that some of the Prime Ministers led to Japan being involved in the Second World War.
