AladaÄŸlar National Park was established on April 21, 1995. It is a national park in southern Turkey. Aladaglar is also called the Crimson Mountains. AladaÄŸlarNational Park is located within the borders of Nigde, south of Kayseri and Adana provinces in Turkey.

The national park has more than a hundred lakes and varied waterfalls, the AladaÄŸlar region is one of the most important spots for mountain tourism. AladaÄŸlar National Park is a 4.7-star-rated national reserve in Turkey. In the article are the ten Best facts about AladaÄŸlar National Park.

1.  The National Park is home to Kapuzbaşı Waterfalls

The Kapuzbaşı Waterfalls in Aladağlar National Park are located 156 km south of Ürgüp and east of Niğde. The waterfalls are among Turkey’s most unusual. The waterfalls are seven of them and they throw their water from a solid rock cliff.

The water finds its way through the porous limestone which ends at the cliff face, where it falls to a stream below. The cold water is potable and delicious. The waterfall’s source is the same as where Hayat brand of spring water taps its water for refining and selling. The water brand is famous throughout Turkey.

2. Aladaglar is an interesting geological background

Aladaglar has the highest summit among other locations in the mountain chain. The highest peak is Kızılkaya with a height of 3767 meters. In Aladağlar, there are four peaks above 3700 meters for climbing.

It covers an area of 55,065 hectares at an average elevation of 3,500 m above sea level. Due to the melting snow in the first spring, many lakes are formed in AladaÄŸlar. Aladaglar, therefore, is considered an interesting geological background.

There are black pine and red pine forests. A pine is any conifer tree or shrub in the genus Pinus and the family is Pinoideae. The pine family is the largest conifer family and there are currently 818 named cultivars.

Pine forests usually occur on dry slopes so needles that fall under the trees decompose very slowly. Pine forests tend to have a closed canopy and relatively little understory vegetation. However, there are other vegetations in the national park that provide food for the wild animals.

The national park does not home to the big five but, it’s an interesting national park to visit in Turkey. Numerous wild animals live in the national park. The wild animals include wild goats, bears, wild pigs, wolves, jackals, martens, otters and songbirds, and birds of prey.

Aladaglar mountains apart from the Kachkar mountains have popular mountains to climb. There are winter activities and summer trek options in the Aladaglar mountains. Mountaineers from all over the world enjoy climbing activities in the national park’s mountains

The mountains are lovely with a variety of trails and landscape features and trail length varies between several hours and several days. However, the longer treks can’t be completed before mid-June due to snow. Birdwatching lovers will also be satisfied. Demirkazik and Kardi are among the major peaks in the national park.

6. Aladaglar National Park covers four regions

The area covers four regions namely; Demirkazik, Yedigoller, Kaldi, and Torasanlar, which have their highest peaks respectively. Demirkazik has an altitude of 3756 m, Kizilkaya has an altitude of 3771 m, Kaldi has an altitude of 3688 m, and Vayvay has an altitude of 3565 m.

The lowest altitude in Aladaglar National Park is 620 m in the vicinity of Kapuzbasi Waterfalls. Aladaglar National Park has a total area of 55.000 hectares.

7. Aladaglar National Park has astonishing temperature ranges

Aladaglar National Park has extremes of climate. The region has hot summers and very cold and snowy winters, with snow-capped peaks throughout the year. There is also a huge difference between night and day temperatures.

The region has a greater difference between day and universal temperatures. The lakes in the national park usually freeze at night and yet can reach up to 30°C during the day.

8. The national park management prioritizes the wild animals in the park

Aladaglar National Park has been designated a protected area for wildlife, and there is a specific space for breeding animals. To increase the number of animals in the park, recreation activities in the park are carefully controlled.

Camping is possible in the park, although there are plans to develop the area and improve the campsite to not interfere with animals in the park. Trout fishing is allowed, and fish is also for sale from the trout production farms around the various rivers.

9. The national park is mostly covered by limestone series

There is also a radiolarite series at the bottom and top of the AladaÄŸlar limestone. The Black Aladaglar falls under the Ak Aladaglar along the Basyayla Corridor. These consist of very thick and thin or thick-bedded, Permo-Carbon aged limestone series.

The rocks are very dark blue. There are ophiolitic rocks with ultrabasic character among the limestone mass forming AladaÄŸlar. Aladaglar is deeply cut by valleys intruded from east and west.

The erosion of limestone has created a fascinating karstic topography and hydrography, especially in the Yedigöller (Seven Lakes) valley, where the karstic underground rivers and caverns collect the surface water.

However, the “Great Lake”, is the one which contains water in all seasons of the year since it’s fed from the bottom.
