Ghana is named after the great medieval trading empire, it is known for having gold, cocoa, and oil that lift the country’s economy. The county is also known for producing the best artists in Africa. 

The annual Ghana Music Awards USA awards the top artists that have influenced the music industry. The categories run from New Artist of the Year to a Most popular song of the year. 

1. Becca

Rebecca Akosua Acheampomaa Acheampong was born on 15 August 1984. She is known as Becca by her fans, she is a Ghanaian singer, songwriter, and actress. Becca first gained recognition as a contestant in the second season of the TV3 singing competition.

Her debut album Sugar was released in 2007 and earned her five nominations at the 2008 Ghana Music Awards. In 2013, she released her second studio album Time 4 Me. The album was certified 2x platinum in Ghana.

Over the course of her career, she has been awarded, one Kora award, one National Youth Achievers Award, four Ghana Music Awards, and three 4Styte Tv Music Video Awards.

In 2021, she was among the Top 30 Most Influential Women in Music, the list was created by 3Music Awards Women Brunch. 

2. Samini

Emmanuel Andrews Sammini was born on 22 December 1981 in Accra, Ghana. He is a Ghanian Reggae and Dance hall recording artiste from Wa, Ghana. His genre of music is a melodious mixture of high life, dance hall, reggae, and hip hop. 

He signed his first record deal with Ashanti International, and he later left the label and started his own record label. Since his career, started he has released seven studio albums and all are highly successful on the commercial market.

He has won several awards including the 2006 MOBO Awards, 2010 The Headies, 2011 Channel O Music Video Awards, 2013 Bass awards, and MTV Africa Music Awards.

However, she has also been nominated for awards like the 2006 MTV Europe Music Awards, the 2014 Black Canadian Awards, the 2014 Ghana Music Awards, and the 2019 Ghana Music awards in the UK.

3. Edem

Denning Edem Hotor is a Ghanaian recording artist ad entertainer who performs under the name Edem. He became recognized when he appeared at live shows and was even the opening act for the John Legend concert in 2007.

In 2015, he won the Best International Act- Africa at the Black Canadian Awards. He beat many accomplished artists from Nigeria, South Africa, and many more African countries.

In the same year, he won the 2015 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards Album of the Year.  in 2016, he was nominated for their different categories at the WatsUp TV Africa Music Video Awards.

4. Shatta Wale

Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr was born on 17 October 1984, he is a Ghanaian reggae- dancehall artist. He is known by his stage name Shatta Wale. He is known for his song Already from Beyonce’s Black Is King album, the song also features Major Lazer.

in 2014 he peaked at number 38 on E.tv’s Top 100 Most Influential Ghanaian Awards chart. In 2017, he was ranked Most Influential Musician on Social Media.

In 2019, he made a record-setting as a dancehall artist who won 11 awards at the 2019 3 Music Awards ceremony. Since his career began he only has four albums namely, After the Storm in 2016, Cloud 9 in 2017, Reign in 2018, and Wonder Boy in 2019.

5. Obaapa Christy

Obaapa is a Ghanaian Gospel musician and recipient of Gospel Artist of the Year and Song of the Year awards during the 2007 edition of the Ghana Music Awards. In 2008, she was conferred with a National Honor by John Kufuor.

In 2007, she won three different categories in the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards. The categories were Best female vocal performance, Gospel artist of the year, and Best collaboration of the year.

6. Stonebwoy

Livingstone Etse Satekla was born on 5 March 1988, he is a Ghanaian Afropop, dancehall, and reggae musician. He is the CEO of Burniton Music group. He won the Best International Act at the 2015 BET awards. He is the recipient of two Billboard plaques.

In 2019, he was the brand ambassador for Voltic Natural Mineral Water and is still the ambassador of Tecno mobile in Ghana. In 2022, he was signed to Universal Music Group’s Def Jam Recordings.

Since his career began, he has won many awards, 2015 International Reggae and World Music Awards, the 2019 African Entertainment Awards USA, and many more.

In 2021, his album won the album of the year award in the Entertainment Achievement Awards and also won the Male Artist of the Year award.

7. Wendy Shay

Wendy Asiamah Addo was born on 20 February 1996, she is a Ghanaian Afropop and Afrobeats singer. In 2021, she was among the Top 30 Most Influential Women In Music by the 3Music Awards Women’s Brunch.

She is the brand ambassador for the Youth Employment Agency in Ghana. She performed at Ghana’s Afronation Music Festival and the RTP Awards Africa in 2018.

She has won many awards including the 2018 Ghana-Naija Showbiz awards, the 2019 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, and Ghana Music Awards UK.

She has also been nominated for awards like the 2018 MuseAfrica’s Bangerz of the Quater awards, the 2021 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, and the 2022 3Music Awards.

8. Kofi Kinaata

Martin King Arthur was born on 15 April 1990, he is popularly known as Kofi Kinaata. He is a Ghanaian musician and songwriter from Takoradi. He is known for his Fante rap and freestyle thus his nickname the Fante Rap God.

One major collaboration that made him known as Odo Pa by Castro and featured Kinaata and Asamoah Gyan. The song was hit all over the continent and won awards locally and internationally. 

In 2013 he was signed to the Samini Music/High-Grade Family record label. After his 5-year contract with the management ended he became an independent artiste.

He has won a lot of awards from 2016 to 2022. Some of them include the 2016 Ghana Music Awards, the 2017 Ghana Music Honors, and the 2022 3 Music Awards.

9. Efya

Jane Awindor was born on April 10, 1987. She is a Ghanaian singer, songwriter, and actress from Kumasi. She is the daughter of Nana Adwoa Awindor who is a filmmaker and celebrity host of Greetings from Abroad.

Her first exposure to fame was when she participated in the maiden edition of the Stars of the Future talent show. In 2011, she won the Best Female Vocal Performance category at the Ghana Music Awards.

some of her notable events include a 2013, performance at the Africa Magic Viewers choice awards. In the same year, she performed at the Carnivore Restaurant in Nairobi, Kenya. She even performed at the 2013 edition of the annual Girl Talk concert.

10. MzVee

Vera Hamenoo Kpeda was born on 23 June 1992. He is a Ghanaian singer, Afropop, dancehall, and R&B artiste. She was signed to the record label Lynx Entertainment after her first album. 

She was the winner of the New Artiste of the Year award at the 2015 Ghana Music Awards. She left the record label in 2019 and became a solo artist. 

In 2014, she won the Ghana Music Awards, 4style Music Video Awards, Bass Awards, and Ghana Music Honors. From that point on she won many more awards and was nominated for even more awards.
