The Moselle Valley is a region in North-Eastern France, South-western Germany and Eastern Luxembourg, centred on the river valley formed by the river Moselle. It runs through and along the borders of the three countries and drains into Belgium.

It has been promoted as a quality white wine-producing region since the nineteenth century. The wine is produced in three countries: the Luxembourg wine industry, the German Mosel region and France. Moselle has developed a strong tourist industry as well. 

Luxembourg’s part of the valley roughly corresponds with the central and eastern parts of the cantons of Grevenmacher and Remich. Almost all of the lowest-lying communes in Luxembourg lie along the Moselle.

1. Trier: A City of Roman Influences

There was already an incident settlement in Trier when the Romans arrived more than 2000 years ago. The archaeological evidence suggests this beautiful location has been settled for around 16,000  years.

It has several well-preserved Roman attractions worth exploring and is located in the very heart of the most beautiful stretch of the Moselle Valley. The famous of these is the spectacular fortified gate of porta Nigra, a UNESCO World Heritage site built in the 2nd century that remains pretty much as it would have appeared in Roman times.

Another site you must see when you visit Moselle is Aula Palatina (Konstantin Basilika). It was built during the time of Emperor Constantine and fully renovated. Its most interesting feature is Constantine’s Throne Room. It is known as the world’s largest hall for age, the home of events.

2. Location of Koblenz. Where the Mosel Meets the Rhine

This beautiful old city is one of the best places to begin exploring and touring. Koblenz is a great place to join a walking tour, especially if you want to see attractive this like Old Town(Altstadt) and the German Corner, or Deutsches Eck, the point of land in Koblenz that separates the Rhine and Moselle rivers. Apart from the view of the city and the two rivers, it is also home to the 37-meter-tall Monument to Emperor Wilhelm I.

3. Elegant Eltz Castle is Located in Moselle

Eltz is considered one of the most beautiful castles in Europe. It is attractive and a must-see when you visit Moselle, located about 36 kilometres southwest of Koblenz in the small town of Wierschem. The castle is placed above Mosel and can be accessed from either Trier or Koblenz making it easier to access.

Castle was built in the 12th century and is still owned by the same family whose ancestors built it. The most interesting and unbelievable fact is that it was one of the two castles that survived war and demolition among the many.

 Any tourist who visits gets a chance to view a range of medieval architecture, and interior highlights including 800-year-old furnishings, rare gold, and silver artifacts, and ancient weaponry among other interesting features not forgetting English tours are available, and two restaurants and shops are located on-site. I mean why should you not visit, as a tourist you are sorted on all ways your work is to adventure and enjoy the stay.

4. A River Runs Through It(Bernkastel-kues)

Bernkastel Kues has so much to offer to curious tourists and can easily spend hours exploring this attractive old town. The best place to start exploring is Bernkastel’s pretty Marketplace on the river’s right bank.

Along the river are numerous old fashion shops, restaurants, and cafes. Also, you will find the early 17th century Town Hall and the old pillory where criminals were punished. On the banks of the Mosel, a few minutes walk you will find Early Gathoc St . Michael’s Church. The area is also famous for boasting rich décor and original furnishings.

5. White wine-producing Region

Moselle had been promoted as a quality white wine-producing region since the nineteenth century. Moselle wine is produced in three countries, the German Mosel region,  which is the heart of the Luxembourg wine industry, and also there are some vineyards in France.

6. Developed Tourism Industry

The Moselle valley has developed a tourism industry. It has beautiful features to attract tourists. Some of the things that attract tourists are the gentle rolling hills, stunning river bends, and picturesque villages and towns. There are also some superb wine, good food, ancient culture, hilltop castles and friendly services.

In the valley, there are quiet and peaceful villages to refresh your senses or lively towns to have lots of fun. Cycling, walking, and canoeing are offered for sportive visitors. The Mosel valley has a lot in store, visit and let’s have fun.

7. Churches in Treis Karden

The tourism resort of Treis -Karden is yet another picturesque town upping the beauty quotient of the Moselle Valley. Its main attractions are the beautiful Churches search as Saint Castor’s Foundation Church, Hochkreuzkapelle (High Cross Chapel), and Georgskapelle.

Saint Castor’s Foundation Church, is a tribute to a 4th-century priest and hermit. Georgskapelle is the aisle-less Gothic  Evangelical church and Hochkreuzkapelle,( high Cross Chapel) is the most visited church in Treis-Karden by locals and tourists.                      

8. No Large Towns 

It is surprising and unbelievable to know that there are no large towns in some parts of Moselle valley. In Luxembourg’s part of the Moselle valley, there are no large towns. The main settlements in the area are Grevenmacher, Mondorf-Les Bains, Remich and Wasserbillig all of which have populations of over 2,000 people.

9. Moselle Wine is Produced in Three Countries

Moselle produces quality white wine since the nineteenth century. The wine is known as” Moselle wine”. However, despite being “Moselle Wine” it is produced in other countries. Three countries produce this quality wine: Luxembourg, France and the German Moselle region.

10. Located on the Border of Several Countries

The Moselle valley is not only located in Germany.  The valley is located on the border of different countries. It is a constituency located on the borders of South-West Germany, North-Eastern France and Eastern Luxembourg and Belgium.
