Nico Hulkenberg was born on 19th August 1989 and raised in Emmerich am Rhein, Germany to Klaus Dieter and Susanne Hulkenberg. His parents own a shipping company, Hulkenberg Spedition e. K based in Emmerich am Rhein. He is a German Professional racing driver who currently serves as the reserve driver in Formula One for the Aston Martin F1 Team.

He is one of the six drivers since 2005 to win the GP2 series/Formula 2 championship in his debut season, others were Oscar Piastri, George Russell, Charles Leclerc, Nico Rosberg, and Lewis Hamilton. He has won in many races and has participated internationally. In the year 2015, he participated in the two rounds of the 2015 FIA World Endurance Championship seasons for Porsche and he emerged to win the 24 hours of Le Mans on his first attempt.

In 2009, he won the 2009 GP2 series championship and he had previously won the Formula 3 Euro Series and the A1 Grand Prix as part of A1 Team Germany.

1. Being a karting Victor at an Early Age

Hulkenberg made his first appearance in Karting in 1997. At that time he was only ten years and he was doing so great. In 2002 he was a German Junior Karting Champion and a year later he was the champion of the German Kart.

At the time he was managed by Willi Weber. His manager predicted that in the year 2008, the young star would be ready for Formula One. He nicknamed him “The Hulk” after a fictional superhero since Hulkenberg could change his personality whilst at the wheel.

2. Hulkenberg has Trained as a Freight Forwarding Agent

Hulkenberg is said to have at some time trained as a freight forwarding agent. This could have been because his dad Dieter Hulkenberg owns a shipping company called Hulkenberg Spedition e.K.

Which is based in Emmerich am Rhein. And so as a result Hulkenberg had to take the training.

 3. Personal and Marriage Life

Hulkenberg is said to be currently living in Monaco. Since 2015, they have been in a relationship with his wife Lithuanian fashion designer called Egle Ruskyte. On September 2021 they welcomed their firstborn daughter named Noemi Sky.

4. Hulkenberg on Formula’s Racing Competitions

In 2005 is when he made his first appearance in German Formula BMW and won the first position comfortably. However, he was stripped of the win after it was claimed that he had brake-tested his rivals during a safety car period.

In 2006, he finished 5th in the German Formula Three Championships. He also won the non-championship master of Formula 3 race at Zolder from teammate Romain Grosjean after Grosjean stalled at the start. In 2008, he won the Formula 3 Euro series championship.

 He amassed 76 of his total of 85 points during the feature races on Saturdays taking seven wins in the progress.

5. Hulkenberg Participating in Force India

On 26th January 2011, Hulkenberg joined Force India as their reserve driver for 2011 after the promotion of Paul di Resta. He competed in all races of the first practice sessions apart from Monaco, Hungary, Korea, India, and Abu Dhabi.

On 16th December of the same year, Force India announced that he and Di Resta would be their drivers for the 2012 season. He became ninth for the Australian Grand Prix. However, his race ended on the first lap after he collected up damage in a first-corner incident before retiring further round the course. 

The following weekend at the Malaysian Grand Prix he finished in ninth place after starting as sixteenth. For the Belgian Grand Prix, he finished fourth place.

6. He Joined Sauber in 2013

Sauber announced that they had signed Hulkenberg for the 2013 season to replace Kamui Kobayashi on 31 October 2012. However, he did not start the Australian Grand Prix because his fuel system leaked, and he was withdrawn for safety reasons. At the Malaysian Grand Prix, Hulkenberg finished the race in 8th place.

He kept doing his best such that at the Italian Grand Prix he became third on the grid. All through the races, he made at Sauber he showed great defending skills and made no mistakes in a battle.

7. Hulkenberg Wining at Le Mans

In November 2014, it was confirmed that Hulkenberg would compete in the 2015, 24 Hours of Le Mans in the third factory-backed Porsche 919 Hybrid. He also announced that he would compete in the Spa- Francorchamps round of the World Endurance Championship.

He won the 24 Hours of Le Man’s race on 14th June 2015. It was recorded that he completed the 395 Laps one ahead of the car of their Porsche teammates who took the second place. The win made him the first active Formula One driver to win at Le Mans since Bertrand Gachot and Johny Herbert who performed in 1991.

8. He Participated in the Private Indy Car test

Hulkenberg participated in a private Indy Car test at Barber Motorsports Park on 25th October 2021. He drove the No.7 Arrow McLaren Sp (AMSP) car. The AMSP team principal Taylor reported that Hulkenberg considered a third part-time entry in 2022.

He completed over 100 laps at 77.454 seconds in his first test. Hulkenberg declined the opportunity to pursue a career in IndyCar with McLaren and said that he was unwilling to race on ovals and that he found the Dallara DW12 to be significantly harder to drive physically than the Formula one car he was used to.

9. His Impact on the German A1 Grand Prix team

In the 2006- 2007 season, Hulkenberg joined the German A1 Grand Prix team. It was that season that he made 9 wins in his rookie season and making him the most successful driver in A1GP history.

This meant that he almost single-handedly won Germany the championship with 128 points, which was 35 more than Team New Zealand.

10. His First Time Driving a Formula One

2007 was the first time he first drove a Formula One car after his manager Willi Weber organized a test for him with Williams after failing to conclude a deal with Renault boss Flavio Briatore. It was a two-day test.

After the test, the Williams team signed him as a test driver and it is reported that he competed in several test sessions in addition to racing in lower formulae. He could also sometimes act as the team’s reserve driver in the events where regular drivers were unable to compete.
