Ryan John Seacrest is an American producer and media personality. He hosts On Air with Ryan Seacrest, American Top 40, and American Idol, and co-hosts Live with Kelly and Ryan.

In 2010, he won Emmy Award for producing Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution and in 2018, he made it to the nomination for Live with Kelly and Ryan in Outstanding Talk Shoe Entertainment and also Outstanding Entertainment Talk Show Host.

1. Ryan Seacrest Was Born in Atlanta, Georgia

Ryan was born on December 24, 1974, in Atlanta, Georgia, to Constance Marie and Gary Lee Seacrest. At 14, he joined Dunwoody High School graduating in 1992 and in the fall of 1992, he proceeded to study journalism at the University of Georgia; after graduating, he relocated to Hollywood to pursue his broadcasting career.

2. While Still in High School, A Station Hired Him as a DJ

While attending high school at 16, he won an internship at 94.1 WSTR in Atlanta. Here he trained himself in the many aspects and skills of radio.

When a DJ called in sick, Sullivan put him on the air for the first show of his broadcasting career. Ryan was given the weekend overnight shift at WSTR; he continued to work on air at WSTR until graduating from Dunwoody High School in 1992 and continued his radio show at a local Athens station.

3. Ryan Is a Host at American Idol

Ryan took the position as co-host in 2002 of a new Fox reality television series American Idol with comedian Brian Dunkleman and in 2013, he became the sole host. When the show grew in popularity, being seen by some 26 million viewers weekly, Ryan became known worldwide.

Subsequently, Ryan hosted the spin-off show American Juniors and in 2009, he signed a deal with CKX for $45 million to keep on hosting American Idol, making him the highest-paid reality television host of time. In 2012, Ryan signed a two-year $30 million deal to stay on as host of American Idol.

In May 2016, it was announced that ABC had won a multi-network bidding war for the rights to the show, and on July 20, 2017, he disclosed he would be the host of the Idol reboot. Ryan’s initial multi-year deal was reported to be worth over $10 million.

4. He is a Radio Host

Ryan became the host of the radio program American Top 40 in January 2004. The program is a syndicated weekly countdown show created and formerly hosted by Casey Kasem. In 2004 he became the host of Los Angeles radio station KIIS-FM’s morning show.

Since 2017, the show On Air with Ryan Seacrest has been broadcasting from a studio at the facilities of WABC-TV in New York City. Ryan renewed his contract with Premiere and KIIS company iHeartMedia in September 2021, which will end in 2025.

5. Ryan Has Ventured into Business

Ryan was a main investor in the Typo keyboard, which targeted at cloning the Blackberry physical keyboard for use with iPhone devices that launched in 2014. The Typo keyboard was terminated in a 2015 patent settlement with Blackberry Ltd.

Additionally, he is an investor and partner at Pathwater, a brand of purified water offered in a refillable aluminum bottle. He also partnered with dermatologist Harold Lancer to create Polished men’s skincare line, which has five items designed for easy use.

6. Ryan is a Lover of Fashion

Ryan worked with Burberry’s Christopher Bailey, who designed his suits for red carpet events and New Year’s Eve since 2009 and American Idol” starting in 2010. He wore close-fitting suits and chose to make something same for a wider audience at an “accessible” price.

He started his clothing and accessories collection titled Ryan Seacrest Distinction in 2013 in collaboration with Randa Apparel & Accessories. The partnership created an exclusive retail partnership with Macy’s to sell the brand. 

The brand launched in 2014 consists of sports coats, suit separates, accessories such as ties, pocket squares, wallets and dress shirts from PVH.

7. Ryan Founded Ryan Seacrest Foundation

Ryan launched the non-profit Ryan Seacrest Foundation in 2010 with Selena Gomez named Ambassador of the Foundation in April 2012. The foundation partnered with the Atlanta Braves to encourage the non-profit at SunTrust Park in February 2012, and he then did voice work for the Braves’ “Welcome Home” broadcast media campaign.

The foundation has ten centers at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Children’s Hospital of Orange County, Children’s Hospital Colorado, Boston Children’s Hospital, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, Children’s Medical Center Dallas, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, Children’s National Medical Center and Levine Children’s Hospital.

8. Ryan Has Done Television Producing

In 2008, Ryan launched Ryan Seacrest Productions and named William Morris Agent Adam Sher as CEO. Clear Channel obtained a minority stake in Ryan Seacrest Productions in early 2012, but the company no longer has a first-look deal with any network.

Ryan signed a multi-year overall deal between Ryan Seacrest Production and ABC Studios in 2017 in which the company’s scripted division would develop scripted projects for ABC Studios exclusively.

He has produced several shows such as Keep Up with the Kardashians, Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution, Melissa and Tye and spin-offs Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami and Khloe and Lamar, Kourtney and Kim Take New York.

9. Ryan Joined Live with Kelly and Ryan in 2017

On May 1, 2017, it was disclosed that Ryan would join Kelly Ripa as host of Live with Kelly and Ryan as her new permanent co-host and executive producer. He succeeded Michael Strahan, and by December 2017, the show was averaging over 3 million viewers.

10. Ryan Was Accused of Sexual Harassment

On November 17, 2017, it was reported that Ryan had been investigated for sexual harassment allegations by a former E! wardrobe stylist. Ryan opposed the allegation and said, “This person who accused me of horrible things offered, on multiple occasions, to withdraw her claims if paid her millions of dollars. I refused.”

In February 2018, the Associated Press reported that the E! channel’s investigation into the claims had closed and that there was not enough evidence to support the claims.
