Future is an American rapper, songwriter and singer. He is known for his mumble-styled vocals and prolific output, and he is considered a pioneer of the use of melody and auto-tune in modern trap music.

He is considered one of the most influential rappers of his generation. He is one of the best-selling musicians; Future’s accolades include a Grammy Award at the 61st Grammy Awards for Best Rap Performance for the song King’s Dead alongside Kendrick Lamar, James Blake, and Jay Rock.

1. His Actual Name is Nayvadius DeMun Wilburn

Future was born on November 20, 1983, in Atlanta, Georgia. He later changed his last name legally to Cash (Nayvadius DeMun Cash). He attended Columbia High School in Decatur, Georgia, and was a fan of Shakespeare; he once said, “When I went to school, I would read Shakespeare and just fell in love with how he mixed his words. I started playing around and writing poems, reading poems.”

2. He was Nicknamed Future By The Dungeon Family

Future got his stage name while performing as one of the musical collectives The Dungeon Family, where he was nicknamed Future. Rico Wade, his first cousin, record producer, and Dungeon Family member encouraged him to work on his writing skills and pursue a career as a rapper, which helped him to create a temporary respite from street life.

Future praises Rico Wade’s musical influence and instruction, calling him the “mastermind” behind his sound. He soon came under the wing of fellow Atlanta rapper Rocko, who signed Future to his label, A1 Recordings.

He released a series of mixtapes, including 1000 True Story, from 2010 to 2011. He gained popularity after DJ Esco played his songs at Magic City, a strip club in Atlanta deemed “largely responsible for launching the career of artists.”

3. Future Music Is Characterized as Trap Music

His music has been characterized as Trap Music, and he makes prevalent use of Auto-Tune in his songs, both rapping and singing with the effect. His use of Auto-Tune raised different critics; the LA Times wrote in 2016 that “Future’s highly processed vocals suggest a man driven to bleary desperation by drugs or love or technology,” stating that his music” comes closest to conjuring the numbing overstimulation of our time.”

T-Pain, an American rapper who also uses that audio processor, criticized Future’s unconventional use in 2014. Future responded to this because it makes my voice sound grittier.

4. Ciara Was His Fiancé

 Future was engaged to Ciara in October 2013, but she ended the engagement in August 2014 due to his infidelity. Ciara is the mother of one of his sons. In 2016, Ciara sued him for slander, libel, and defamation; however, in October 2016, a judge said that Future’s string of tweets bashing Ciara did not relate to the $15 million she was asking for.

He is a father of at least eight children by his account, each with a different woman; however, the other child’s paternity has been litigated, and he has adopted the son of one of the mothers of his daughter.

In 2016, Jessica Smith sued him for failing to pay child support, stating their son “suffers from emotional and behavioral issues stemming from Future’s neglect as a father.” In 2019, two women from Florida and Texas respectively filed paternity suits claiming that Future was their respective daughter and son. The Texas woman dropped her paternity suit.

6. In September 2011, He Signed a Major Label Recording Contract with Epic Records

Future was signed to Epic Records days before the release of his next mixtape, Streetz Calling. The mixtape was described by XXL magazine as ranging from “simple and soundly executed boasts” to “futuristic drinking and drugging jams” to “tales of the grind.”

During his time at Epic Records, he released the debut album Pluto. On November 27, 2012, it was announced that Future would be repackaging his debut album Pluto under the name Pluto 3D featuring three new and two remix songs. In 2012 he wrote, produced, and was featured on Loveeeeeee Song, taken from Barbadian singer Rihanna’s seventh studio album, “Unapologetic.”

In other works, he released a studio album, Future Hendrix, which featured Drake, Ciara, and Kanye West, among others. He also released the compilation mixtape F. B. G; it features the artist signed to his Young Scooter, Freebandz label, Maceo, Slice9, Mexico Rann, and Casino.

7. Future Released His Seventh Studio Album in 2019

Future released his seventh studio album, Future Hndrxx  Presents The Wizrd, on January 18, 2019. The album consisted of 20 songs and was promoted by a film titled The Wizrd, released on January 11 on Apple Music.

The Wizrd received positive reviews from critics and became Future’s sixth US number-on album, debuting at number one on the US Billboard 200 with 125,000 album-equivalent units. Several songs from the album were charted on the Billboard Hot 100, leading to Future becoming the artist with the 10th most entries in Hot 100 history.

8. He Released a Collaborative Mixtape with Rapper Drake

Future released a collaborative mixtape with Drake titled What a Time to Be Alive on September 20, 2015. The album was a success, debuting at number one on the Billboard R&B Chart and Billboard Hot Rap Songs, marking the first time a rapper could score two number-one albums in a year in 11 years since Jay Z in 2004. The mixtape sold over 334,000 copies in the US.

9. Future Calls His Studio The Batcave

The rapper owns a studio named the Batcave because it’s hard to find it. The studio is all black with a black gate and away in seclusion. He is known for being able to bang out a hit record in 25 minutes.

10. Future Worked on His Album Honest For At Least Two Years

He told Billboard it took him at least two years to work on the Honest album. Honest was his second studio album, released on April 22, 2014, through A1 Recordings and Freebandz and distributed by Epic Records. The album debuted at number two on the US Billboard 200, selling 53,000 copies in its first week, and was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
