1. She Had Strict Parents

McCord was born in 1987 in Atlanta. She was a daughter to David McCord, who was a Christian pastor, and Shari McCord. Although she was born in Atlanta, she was raised in Buford and Monroe in Georgia. She has two siblings, Angel and Rachel.

She had parents with strict discipline; she wasn’t allowed to watch Harry Potter because it had witches in it. McCord was home-schooled by her mother and graduated from high school at 16.

2. McCord Became Popular in 2007

She gained prominence in 2007 after playing as rebellious Loren Wakefield on the MyNetwork TV limited-run serial American Heiress. Also, the role of Eden Lord in the fifth season of the FX series Nip/Tuck made her famous. During an interview, McCord revealed that playing a bad girl was fun to play.

3. McCord Used to Work with Wilhelmina Modeling Agency

Wilhelmina Modeling Agency is a full-service modeling and talent agency headquartered in New York City, United States. 

When McCord entered the agency in Miami, Florida, she appeared in advertising campaigns for various brands, from eBay to Estee Lauder.

She also models for publications such as Playboy, Maxim, Nylon, Seventeen, and Woman’s World, among others.

4. She First Appeared on Television in 2006

When she first appeared on television in 2006, when she was featured in the episodes of the teen drama series The O.C. and the crime drama Close to Home. McCord’s first main role came in 2007 as she starred as Loren Wakefield on the MyNetworkTV telenovela American Heiress, which made her gain prominence.

She then joined the TNT reboot of the prime soap opera Dallas portraying Heather in the show’s third season. She also appeared in the television film The Christmas Parade, in 2016, she starred in an episode of the police procedural Stalker.

In 2016, she played the recurring role of Melanie Warner in the second season of the ABC anthology mystery series Secrets and Lies and also a recurring role as a pharmaceutical representative in the series Night Shift.

In 2018, McCord’s main role was on the short-lived sitcom Let’s Get Physical. She has also featured in the episodes of Power Book III: Raising Kanan and Legends of Tomorrow.

5. McCord Starred in the CW Series 90210

In 2008, McCord gained new prominence when she began playing as socialite Naomi Clark on the series 90210. At first, her role was conceived as a supporting role; however, her performance was well received, and she was referred to as a leading character by the end of season one.

As a result, her character was given greater prominence in the following seasons, and she played Naomi Clark for all five seasons through 2013. McCord received a Teen Choice Award nomination for Female Breakout Star for her work in the 90210 film.

6. McCord Made Her Film Debut in 2002

Her first film debut was in 2002 when she played Cassandra in The Middle of Nowhere. In 2005, she starred on another big screen in the action thriller sequel Transporter 2.

McCord earned the best reviews of her career for her starring performance in the film Excision in 2012. She had a supporting role in the action film Officer Down, the horror-comedy Tone-Deaf, and the drama American Skin among many others.

7. McCord Has Been in a Relationship with Dominic Purcell

McCord and actor Dominic Purcell started dating in 2011. In 2014 they announced they had parted ways but rekindled their love in 2015.

She was with Dominic Purcell when he suffered a near-fatal accident on the set of Prison Break in Morocco on June 1, 2016. The accident happened after an iron bar used as a set piece fell onto his head.

In 2018, they split again but stayed on good terms. Dominic Purcell confirmed they had rekindled their relationship with an Instagram post on September 25, 2020.

8. McCord Was Sexually Assaulted During Her Childhood

In 2014, McCord disclosed that she was sexually assaulted at 18 by a male friend; this made her break down during her rape scene in 90210.  During her speech at the United Nations supporting UN Women for Peace Association (UNWFPA) in 2015, she disclosed her alignment with the domestic abuse and anti-sexual assault project, the No More Campaign.

Subsequently, she said that she has been practicing meditation to help cope with her trauma and created a global meditation tour, Love Strom, to help raise awareness of human trafficking.

In 2018, McCord was undergoing treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and memories of child sexual abuse, which took place when she was 11. She disclosed that she had been diagnosed with a dissociative identity disorder.

9. McCord Reacted to the 2022 Russian Invasion in Ukraine

Following the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, she released a video of herself in February reading a poem on her Twitter, postulating that if she had loved Vladimir Putin as a mother, perhaps an invasion of Ukraine could have been avoided.

McCord’s video was received with derision by viewers and critics; some likened it to Gal Gadot’s cover of Imagine, which was similarly criticized for its perceived tone-deaf message. 

During an interview with Buzzfeed News, she defended the video, saying she could have easily become a dictator under different circumstances.
