Joakim Simon Noah is a French-Swedish-American former professional basketball player since his college period. He was born on 25th February 1985 in New York City, the United States of America. His father is a French singer and former world number three tennis player Yannick Noah who was also the winner of the French Open in 1983.

His mother, Cecilia Rodhe was Miss Sweden and fourth runner-up at Miss Universe 1978. Zacharie Noah, his grandfather, was a Cameroonian professional football player who won the Coupe de France in 1961. From the age of three in 1988 to 1998, Joakim Noah lived in Âé¶¹APP, France and returned to New York at the age of thirteen.

Joakim Noah played college basketball for the Florida Gators where he won back-to-back NCAA championships in 2006 and 2007. He was picked by the Chicago Bulls as the ninth overall pick in the 2007 NBA draft. Joakim Noah is a two-time NBA All-Star and was also named to the All-NBA first team in 2014 and was also named the NBA Defensive Player of the Year. Yannick Noah, his father, was a French singer and a talented tennis player. He, Yannick Noah, is a former World number three tennis player who won the French Open in 1983.

His mother, Cecilia Rodhe, formerly Rhodes-Noah, is a former model and Miss Sweden 1978. She competed in the Miss Universe 1978 pageant held in Mexico and finished in the fifth position. Cecilia Rodhe is currently a sculptor.

Other than being to a family of renowned tennis players and a model, Joakim Noah’s grandfather was also a renowned sports personality. Zacharie Noah, his grandfather, was a Cameroonian professional soccer player.

He won the Coupe de France in 1961 playing with Sedan-Torcy. Zacharie Noah played as a defender during his career who not only played for Sedgefield but also Stade Saint-Germain.

3. Joakim Noah Played Youth Basketball for His High School Team

Joakim Noah grew up in Âé¶¹APP and New York City where he showed interest in basketball. As he grew up, he played youth basketball for the youth teams of the French club Levallois Sporting Club in Âé¶¹APP.

Later on, he joined a high school where he also participated in playing basketball for his high school team. Joakim Noah played for the United Nations International School, Poly Prep Country Day School and The Lawrenceville School while in high school.

During his high school basketball playing time, Joakim Noah was considered a four-star recruit by Rivals.com. He was listed as the number 19 power forward and the number 75 player in the nation in 2004.

4. He Accepted an Athletic Scholarship to Attend the University of Florida

The high school basketball career of Joakim Noah never went unrecognized as he was highly rated due to his versatility in the game. He was given an athletic scholarship to attend the University of Florida which he accepted. Joakim Noah joined and played for coach Billy Donovan’s Florida Gators men’s basketball team from 2004 to 2007.

He was a member of the team’s 2004 recruiting class which included four freshmen who made a dramatic impact on the Gators basketball program during the three seasons. In his first year, Noah played 9.4 minutes per game and averaged 3.5 points and 2.5 rebounds per game.

5. Joakim was Outstanding for His College Basketball Team

After joining Donovan’s Florida Gators team, Joakim Noah became an instant impact on the team. His hardworking and teamwork mentality made him an outstanding basketball player for his university team. He was named the Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA Tournament’s Minneapolis Regional.

This came after he led the Gators over top-seeded Villanova in the final game with 26 points, 15 rebounds and 5 blocks. On 3rd April 2006, Noah paced the Gators to a 73-57 victory over the UCLA Bruins for the school’s first NCAA basketball championship. He was also named the Most Outstanding Player in the Final Four.

6. He was Selected by The Chicago Bulls Alongside Two College Mates

After his university, Joakim Noah never missed an opportunity to play professional basketball away from schooling. He was selected by the Chicago Bulls as the ninth overall pick in the 2007 NBA draft.

Joakim Noah was picked alongside two of his teammates at Florida, Corey Brewer and Al Horford. They became the highest-picked trio from the same university in NBA history. Joakim Noah made his regular season debut on 6th November 2007 off the bench after missing the first three games with a sprained ankle.

On his debut, he scored 2 points and had four rebounds. However, Joakim Noah had a very rocky start with his team after being given a suspension by a unanimous vote from his teammates in January 2008.

7. His $72 Million Contract with New York Knicks was Questionable

Joakim Noah continued with his career as he was a very important player for the teams he used to play for. On 8th July 2016, Joakim Noah signed a four-year contract with his hometown team, the New York Knicks that was worth $72 million.

His contract was questionable at that time and was later labelled as disastrous and the worst signing in franchise history. Joakim Noah underwent a left knee arthroscopic to remove a loose body and was out for at least four weeks after his contract.

8. Joakim was Given a 20 Games Suspension for Violating Anti-Drug Policy

Towards the end of his professional career, Joakim Noah struggled with several things including injuries and suspensions. On 25th March 2017, he was handed a suspension of 20 games for violation of the league’s anti-drug policy.

His suspension carried over into the first 10 games of the 2017-18 season which he never appealed. Joakim never appealed the suspension because he was unaware of his violation.
