Known professionally as Christine and the Queens or simply Chris, Héloïse Adélaïde Letissie is a French singer and songwriter.
Héloïse Adélaïde Letissier was born on 1 June 1988 in Nantes. His father, Georges Letissier, taught English literature at the University of Nantes, while his mother, Martine Letissier, taught both French and Latin at a local middle school.
He released his first album in 2014, and his accolades include four Victories of Music awarded by the French Ministry of Culture. He has been signed to the independent record label Because Music since 2012.

1. He Started Playing Piano at the age of four
Christine and the Queens started learning to play the piano at the age of four, he learned classical dance at five, and then modern jazz. His parents recommended to him writers such as Sarah Waters and Judith Butler, whose works served both as inspiration and reference in his youth.
He attended Lycée Clemenceau learning theatre and then Lycée Fénelon secondary school in 鶹APP learning literature. Christine later studied at the Department of Arts of École normale supérieure de Lyon and also studied drama at the Lyon Regional Conservatory.
2. He Changed his name after an Encounter with drag Queens in London

He made a trip to London and was inspired by the work of local queen musicians, including Russella, at the Soho nightclub Madame Jojo’s. The queens then became ‘the Queens’ in his stage name as a tribute.
After he returned to France from London, he left the ENSL grande école in the middle of the second year to devote himself fully to the musical project now called “Christine and the Queens”. He dedicated many of his creations to all transgender individuals.
3. He Released a Song Following his Mother’s Death
Following his mother’s death in 2020, Christine and the Queens released a song entitled “People, I’ve Been Sad”. Some critics pronounced it as his strongest work up to that point.
The song was released to digital retailers on 5 February 2020 and to American adult alternative radio on 17 February 2020, and It features lyrics in both English and French.
It was named the best song of 2020 by Paste and Time and was also included on NME’s year-end list at number 11, Consequence’s at 21, Billboard’s at 22, and Vice’s at 52.
4. Christine is Genderqueer and Pansexual Artist

Christine and the Queens is part of a new generation of pop stars revolutionizing the narrative around sex and gender; bringing long-overdue conversations about humanity’s vast spectrum of identities into the mainstream through both her music and no-holds-barred public persona.
In an October 2019 interview with the magazine Attitude, he explained that he is genderqueer. He later stated in a TikTok video that his gender journey was “a long process” and explained that he had gendered himself in the masculine for about a year, which he had shared with family and close friends.
He subsequently updated his pronouns to he/him across social media platforms.
5. “Chaleur Humaine” was her Debut Album

In 2014, Létissier delivered Christine and the Queens’ debut full-length album, Chaleur Humaine, a set of songs inspired by her teenage years that featured the single “Saint Claude.”
Early in 2015, he won the Victoires de la Musique for 2014’s Best Female Artist; later that year, Chaleur Humaine was reissued on Atlantic in the United States as Christine and the Queens, and featured the English-language single “Tilted.”
The album was also reissued as a deluxe edition in the U.K. in 2016, a year that saw Christine and the Queens cover Beyoncé’s “Sorry” and the BBC choose Létissier as one of its 100 Women of the Year.
6. He is an Active UNHCR Supporter
Following her visit to Uganda with UNHCR in December 2017, Christine called for urgent attention and action for refugees fleeing violence in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
This was in response to rising concerns over the number of displaced people fleeing conflict and violence in the country – including some 236, 500 who had fled into Uganda at the time of Christine’s visit.
Commenting on the crisis, Christine said, “I want to do what I can to humbly show solidarity with refugees and shine a light on forgotten emergencies like this one. I feel it’s my obligation, as an artist and citizen, to use my voice to ensure their stories and needs reach even further.”
Christine has continued to support UNHCR through her social media presence and further discussed her experiences with UNHCR on World Refugee Day 2018.
7. Michael Jackson is his Favourite Male Singer

In a November 2013 interview with Brain Magazine, Christine cited artists such as Christophe, David Bowie, Kanye West, and Kendrick Lamar, as well as the Soul Train soundtracks as his musical influences.
He also named Michael Jackson his favorite male singer of all time. He also named either Patti Smith or Kate Bush, as his favorite female singer. Other influences include Beyoncé, Fever Ray, Frank Ocean, Janet Jackson, Jimmy Jam, and Terry Lewis.
8. He Changed his stage name to “Chris” in 2019
In 2019, Letissie decided to work alone, Confident in his decision to go it alone, he cut his hair short and started again as Chris. He stated that he wanted to take his chances and risk it all.
In April 2018, he announced a tour across North America and Europe and plans for the autumn. In July of the same year, Christine also announced details of his upcoming album titled Chris.
9. She Sings in French and English

Two Languages are available to Christine. Just like on her debut album Chaleur Humaine, Christine writes lyrics for every track in both English and French, making her album a 23-track behemoth.
At times the language barrier and Google Translate don’t meld in a perfectly poetic way, like in ‘Comme si’ when she sings “When you play me loud baby / when you play me fun.”
However, most times it works well: she either tells a story in both languages or translates it to fit the other language over the same beat.
10. He was Ranked Number 1 on Vanity Fair’s List in 2016
In 2016, Letissier was ranked number 1 in Vanity Fair’s list of most powerful and influential French people who “promote French genius”, ahead of the country’s president.
The next year, Forbes placed him on its list of 30 most influential and talented people under 30, and Time included him on its list of Next Generation Leaders twice – in 2016 and 2018
