Romain David Jeremie Grosjean was born on 17 April 1986. He is a Swiss-French professional racing driver. He competes under the French flag in the NTT IndyCar Series. He drives the No. 28 Honda for Andretti Autosport.
He dominated the 2005 French Formula Renault championship on his first attempt and joined the Renault young driver programme. He was the 2007 Formula 3 Euro Series drivers’ champion.

1. He is the great-grandson of Edgar Brandt
Edgar William Brandt was a French ironworker and prolific weapons designer. In 1901 he set up a small workshop at 76 rue Michel-Ange in the 16th arrondissement in Âé¶¹APP, where he began designing, silversmithing, and forging small items such as jewellery, crosses, and brooches.
His business began to take off with special commissions such as the door of the French Embassy in Brussels, the Escalier Mollien stairs in the Louvre, and the stair and balcony railing for the Grand Theatre Municipal de Nancy.
At the start of World War I in 1914 Brandt was called to serve. He designed 60mm, 81mm and 120mm versions that were very widely copied throughout and after World War II.
2. Fernand Grosjean is Romains grandfather
Fernand Grosjean was a Swiss alpine skier who competed at the 1948 and 1952 Winter Olympics. In 1948 he finished eighth in the alpine skiing downhill competition and 16th in the combined event.
Four years later he finished eleventh in the 1952 giant slalom competition. Grosjean won a silver medal in the giant slalom at the 1950 World Championships.
3. Grosjean started his racing career as early as 2000
Even though Grosjean started his racing career in 2000. He started becoming popular and famous as early as 2003. Grosjean won all ten rounds of the 2003 Formula Lista Junior championship and moved to the French Formula Renault championship in 2004.
He was seventh in that first season with one win and was champion in 2005 with ten victories. He also appeared in the Formula Renault Eurocup and finished on the podium twice in Valencia.
With his results and potential in the Formula Renault series, Grosjean joined the Renault Driver Development programme for the continuation of his career.
4. Grosjean made his Formula Three debut in 2005
Grosjean made his Formula Three debut at the 2005 Macau Grand Prix. The 2005 Macau Grand Prix formally the 52nd Macau Grand Prix was a motor race for Formula Three cars that was held on the streets of Macau on 20 November 2005.
Grosjean stood in for Loïc Duval, a French professional racing driver racing for Audi Sport as a factory driver in DTM, driving for Dragon Racing in Formula E, and the 2013 24 Hours of Le Man’s champion.
Grosjean qualified 19th and raced to ninth, beating teammates Fábio Carbone and Guillaume Moreau. He did a full season in the 2006 Formula 3 Euro Series but had a tough year, taking only one podium finish and ending the year 13th.
5. Grosjean made his Formula One debut in 2009
The 2009 FIA Formula One World Championship was the 63rd season of FIA Formula One motor racing. It featured the 60th Formula One World Championship. It contested over 17 events commencing with the Australian Grand Prix on 29 March and ending with the inaugural Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on 1 November.

Kimi-Matias Räikkönen nicknamed “The Iceman”, is a Finnish racing driver who competed in Formula One between 2001 and 2021 for Sauber, McLaren, Ferrari, Lotus, and Alfa Romeo. Grosjean returned to Formula One with the Lotus F1 Team, a British Formula One racing team.
He took his first Formula One podium at the 2012 Bahrain Grand Prix and took his first fastest lap in the 2012 Spanish Grand Prix.
7. He became the first driver since 1994 to receive a race ban
Williams driver Pastor Maldonado started his race before the lights went out At the Spa circuit in 2012. Lotus’ Grosjean from the Lotus F1 Team, made a decent start and was trying to overtake Lewis Hamilton when he made contact with the Briton which resulted in a huge crash.
Grosjean hit the back of Sergio Perez and became airborne then crashed into Alonso’s Ferrari. At the same time, Hamilton crashed into Kobayashi and Alonso after taking a heavy hit. Pérez lost his rear wing and touched Maldonado making him spin.
In the aftermath of the horrific crash, Grosjean was issued a fine of $50,150 and a one-race ban from the upcoming 2012 Italian GP. The French driver was charged with initiating the crash in the opening lap of the race. However, no one was injured despite the bizarre.
8. Grosjean drove a Formula One car for the first time in 2008
Grosjean was confirmed as Renault’s test driver for 2008, replacing Nelson Piquet Jr., a Brazilian stock car driver and former Formula One and Formula E driver who graduated to a race seat.
It was during the 2008 World Series by Renault, the fourth season of Renault Sport’s series of events, with three different championships racing under one banner, when Grosjean drove a Formula One car for the first time.
9. Grosjean became involved in sportscar racing after he left Formula One
In March 2010, Grosjean secured a drive in the inaugural FIA GT1 World Championship, driving a Ford GT1 for the Matech Competition team alongside German driver Thomas Mutsch.
The pairing won the opening Championship Race of the season in Abu Dhabi and added a second victory at Brno in May to lead the standings after the first three rounds of the season.
10. Grosjean joined the Haas F1 Team in 2015
On 29 September 2015, it was announced that Grosjean would race for the Haas F1 Team, who were joining the Formula One grid for the 2016 season. He was partnered by former Sauber driver and Ferrari test driver Esteban Gutiérrez.
In the team’s first race, the Australian Grand Prix, Grosjean finished sixth to record Haas’ first points and making them the first team since Toyota Racing to score points in their debut. He has eventually voted Formula One’s first Driver of the Day.
Grosjean scored again in the following Bahrain Grand Prix by finishing in the fifth position, winning Driver of the Day again. Grosjean drove for Haas for the 2017 season where he partnered with Kevin Magnussen.
