Emma Margaret Marie is a British-French actress. Following minor roles in independent and short films, Mackey made her breakthrough as Maeve Wiley on the Netflix comedy-drama series Sex Education. She was nominated for a British Academy Television Award. She has several upcoming projects, including the drama film Eiffel and the mystery film Death on the Nile.
Emma Margaret Marie Tachard-Mackey, the daughter of a French father and an English mother. She was born on 4th January 1997 in Le Mans. Her father is a school principal. She grew up in Sablé-sur-Sarthe and graduated with High Honors from l’académie de Nantes in 2013, before moving to England to study English language and literature at the University of Leeds. She received her diploma in 2016. Mackey is a dual French-British citizen who lives in London.
1. Emma Mackey has never owned a French passport
Emma had planned to leave France when she was seven years old, and she did. She believed that the country did not understand her sense of humor. She felt out of place and preferred the UK. However, after living in the UK for a while, she began to miss the small town where she grew up.
She applied for a French passport for the first time because her family had chosen for her to have a British passport.
2. She couldn’t afford to live in London
Emma discovered that chasing the dream comes at a high cost. After graduating from Leeds University, the actress moved to London, but couldn’t afford to live alone. As a result, she stayed at a friend’s house until she found work as a live-in nanny. She then quit to pursue her acting dream. Emma had to live with friends while taking acting classes.

Emma knew she wouldn’t be able to participate in the theater in France. As a result, she relocated to the United Kingdom and enrolled at Leeds University, where she hoped to graduate and become an actress.
After graduating in 2016, the actress applied to drama school. Emma was not accepted. She had been attending drama classes for an entire year, determined to pursue her dream, while still hoping that a drama school would accept her. Emma obtained an agent and began attending auditions after realizing that drama school was no longer an option. Through “Sex Education,” she had a career breakthrough in six months.

We all want to appear chaste in the eyes of our grandparents. Emma was concerned that the series would disappoint her grandparents. Fortunately, they are open-minded, and Emma’s grandmother learned about sex after watching rabbits reproduce, so they wished they had a show like that in their time. According to Emma, she was particularly taken with the scene of the banana blow-job.
6. She was a main character in the film Sex Education
Imagine auditioning for jobs and getting the first one with you as the lead character. That is exactly what happened to Emma, whose first job was as Maeve in “Sex Education.”
Despite her attraction to the character and eagerness to tell Maeve’s story, Emma wondered how she got the part. During chemistry reads, the actress felt that the casting directors should have chosen someone with experience and a profile for a Netflix show, but she didn’t even have headshots.

While some celebrities don’t mind taking a selfie with you, Emma dislikes having a phone shoved in her face. She would rather sit down and talk to someone. It would be incorrect to conclude that she is snobbish.
She even has difficulty approaching her idols. Emma was once on a train with Greta Gerwig, whom she adores, but was unable to approach her. She thus admires those who dare to approach her. She appears to be an introvert because she prefers solitude and the company of her university friends.
8. Emma has been a victim of sexual assault
Even though she is tight-lipped about her personal life, she has revealed that she has been the victim of sexual assault. This is why the way Sex Education depicted Aimee’s assault on the show meant so much to her.
Without going into too much detail, she told The Independent, “Stuff has happened to me.” “You know, it’s when people make use of small spaces… I rarely go to clubs, but every time I’ve been to one, there’s always been something going on, or something has happened around me. It’s a very common occurrence, so this was one of the most moving and important storylines for me.”
9. She’s working on a number of projects
Mackey has hinted that she may not return to Sex Education if there is another season. She already has a full schedule. She has already been cast in Kenneth Branagh’s Death on the Nile, based on Agatha Christie’s novel and the sequel to Murder on the Orient Express.
Mackey also appears in the period piece Emily, in which she portrays Victorian novelist Emily Bront. She also appeared in her first French film, Eiffel, which is currently in post-production.
10. Emma Mackey aspires to be a director
Emma was given the opportunity to direct a play. She was immediately drawn to the idea of becoming a film director. For the actress, directing a film is far more satisfying because she enjoys the technical aspects of lighting and filming.
Being the one to ensure that a film goes from script to screen is a goal she hopes to achieve.
