Olivier Giroud is a French professional footballer who plays as a striker for France national team and Series A club AC Millan.

His regarded for his work rate, strength, shot power, and consistent goal-scoring ability, and is considered one of the most underrated strikers in the world.

He was named Liguen2 player of the year in the year 2010 after he finished as the league’s top goal scorer.

Giroud signed for crosstown rivals Chelsea in the year 2018 in a transfer worth 18 million Euros winning the FA Cup, the UEFA Champions League, and the UEFA Europa League finishing as the top goal scorer in the latter in the year 2019.

Olivier Giroud was born in Chambery France in the Rhone Alpes region however he was raised in the nearby village of Froges.

The village is in the Isere department in southeastern France which was very close to Grenoble. Furthermore, Giroud started his football career for his hometown club Olympique club de Froges in the year 1992.

He spent five years developing in Grenoble’s youth academy before signing his first professional contract at the age of 21.

However, ahead of the 2005 and 2006 seasons, he was promoted to the club’s reserve team which was playing in the Championnat de France Amateur 2 which was the fifth level of French football.

Giroud quickly became an important player in the team scoring 15 goals in 15 matches.

More so his performances over seven months with the reserve team resulted in the player being called up to the senior team in March the year 2006 by manager Thierry Goudet.

Furthermore, he was promoted to the senior team permanently for the 2006 and 2007 seasons by new manager Payton Pouliquen and Nicola Malgeri and he was assigned the number 22 shirt.

On 26 February 2007, he scored his first professional goal netting the injury-time winner against Le Harve. Giroud finished the campaign with 18 total appearances and two goals as Grenoble finished in fifth place.

Olivier Giroud scored an impressive 21 goals during the 2011 and 2012 seasons to inspire Montpellier to their first-ever League 1 title.

However, he netted 39 times in the 85 appearances in all the competitions for the League 1 side before joining Arsenal in the summer of the year 2012.

Olivier Giroud is a Catholic and he has a tattoo on his right arm saying “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want” which is a scripture verse from Psalms 23 however the tattoo is written in Latin.

5. He is Married to an American

Olivier and Jennifer Giroud were married in the year 2011. More so Jennifer is American and she had known Giroud for several years before they got married.

Jennifer lives in London and she is often spotted dining at a celeb hotspot Chiltern Firehouse with Giroud.

Furthermore, Jennifer is known for being notoriously private apart from occasionally tweeting support for her husband.

Interestingly the couple was hit by a cheating scandal after model Celia Kay took a picture of Giroud in his hotel room wearing just his draws.

However, Giroud apologized to his wife, team, and fans, and in the year 2013 Giroud and Jennifer were blessed to have a daughter named Jade, and later on in the year 2016, they also have a son called Evan.

Giroud stripped naked for Dieux du Stade which is a French charity calendar featuring naked sportsmen sold for charity in the year 2013.

Later on in the year 2014, he became the face of Hugo Boss’s Boss bottled men’s fragrance. Furthermore, he was voted the “Hottest Premier League Player in the year 2015.

Giroud in an interview with Gentleman’s Quarterly magazine cited David Beckham as an inspiration for the way he looks. He said, “David Beckham’s style is iconic”.

7. He’s known for his “Scorpion kick

In the year 2017 Giroud scored an outstanding “scorpion kick” goal for Arsenal against Crystal palace which won the FIFA Puskas Award.

More so the scorpion kick is also known as a reverse bicycle kick or back hammer kick.

However, Giroud celebrated many of his goals by doing the imitation of the scorpion kick since scoring that goal for Arsenal in 2017.

The move looks almost like a forward cartwheel where it involves throwing the body forwards and placing the hands on the ground to kick the back heels in front so as to kick an approaching football.

8. Olivier Giroud has a Boot Deal with Puma

Giroud has a deal with Puma where he wears Puma-supplied boots. In support of the brand, he wore the Puma ONE 5.1 evoknit soccer cleats during the 2019 to 2020 season.

More so he famously wore a custom version of the Puma ONE 2018 World cup boots for the final against Croatia which had the France national flag on it.

Olivier Giroud’s net worth is estimated to be 10 million dollars in the year 2020 which includes all his properties and earnings.

Giroud puts on the number 18 jersey for Chelsea which came as a surprise considering the fact he like wearing the number 12 jersey.

More so for Arsenal, he wore the number 12 shirt throughout his five-plus seasons at the club.

Furthermore, before his arrival in England, he wore the number 17 for Montpellier and the number 12 for tours. However, he has frequently worn the traditional number 9 for France.
