Carole Bouquet is a French actress and a model, best known for her role as Bond girl, Melina Havelock, in Roger Moore’s 1981 James Bond film “For Your Eyes Only”.

She was born on born 18 August 1957, in Neuilly-sur-Seine in France and has featured in more than 60 films since the beginning of her career in 1977.

Carole Bouquet is one of the most famous actresses in the French film industry, and she was awarded the César Award for Best Actress for her role in Too Beautiful for You in 1991.

1. She was the Face of Chanel the No. 5 for 11 years

Carole Bouquet became the face of the Chanel No. 5 fragrance in 1986, replacing fellow French actress Catherine Deneuve. She represented the fragrance for 11 years before she was replaced by Nicole Kidman in 1997.

Chanel No. 5 was the first perfume launched by French couturier Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel in 1921. The scented formula for the fragrance was compounded by French-Russian chemist and perfumer Ernest Beaux. The design of its bottle has been an important part of the product’s branding.

2. She was awarded the César Award for Best Actress

In 1990, Carole Bouquet was awarded the César Award for Best Actress for her role in the 1989 blockbuster Too Beautiful for You. She had also received a César Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress in Rive Droite, rive gauche back in 1984.

Too Beautiful for You is a 1989 French romantic comedy-drama film written and directed by Bertrand Blier. Besides Bouquet’s award, the film received four other awards  César Award for Best Film, César Award for Best Writing, César Award for Best Director, and César Award for Best Editing.

3. She starred in the 1981 James Bond Film

Bouquet is best known for her role as Bond girl Melina Havelock opposite Roger Moore in the 1981 James Bond film For Your Eyes Only.

Carole Bouquet acted as Melina Havelock, the daughter of marine archaeologists who are murdered while tracking down the ATAC’s whereabouts. She had auditioned for the role of Holly Goodhead in Moonraker but was unsuccessful.

“For Your Eyes Only”, was the twelfth film in the James Bond franchise produced by Eon Productions,  written by Richard Maibaum and Michael G. Wilson.

4. She Participated in the 4th Shanghai International Film Festival

In 1999, Carole Bouquet was a member of the jury of the 4th Shanghai International Film Festival.

It was held between October 22 and October 31, 1999, and it was divided into four activities. Up to 338 films were entered, and the Turkish film Propaganda was named the winner of the Golden Goblet

The four activities represented were The Golden Cup International Film Competition, International Film Panorama, International Film, and TV Market, and Retrospectives with Seminar.

5. She was a Member of the Jury at the Cannes Film Festival in 2014

Carole Bouquet was a member of the main competition jury of the Cannes Film Festival in 2014. The 67th Cannes Film Festival was held from 14 to 25 May 2014. New Zealand film director 

Jane Campion was the head of the jury for the main competition section. The Palme d’Or was awarded to the Turkish film Winter Sleep directed by Nuri Bilge Ceylan.

The Official Selection of films for the 2014 festival, including the line-up for the Main Competition, was announced on 17 April 2014. French actor Lambert Wilson hosted the opening and closing ceremonies.

6. Carole Bouquet runs a Winery in Italy

She has been running a winery, Maison Carole Bouquet, on the island of Pantelleria in the Strait of Sicily since 2005. She owns nearly 15 acres of vineyard on a small volcanic island located between Sicily and Tunisia.

The wine is produced through a concentration technique that has been practiced on the island for centuries. Grapes are handpicked and allowed to raisin on top of the volcanic soil for up to a month resulting in a sweet, amber-colored wine.

Bouquet produces about 420 cases of the Passito di Pantelleria every year, and it is found on the menus of several restaurants in Italy and other parts of the world.

7. She is a Mother of two

Bouquet was previously married to Jean-Pierre Rassam, Jacques Liebowitch, and Rodolfo Recio. She was in a relationship with actor Gerard Depardieu from 1997 to 2005. She has two sons.

On 21 May 2014, she formalized her relationship with Philippe Sereys de Rothschild on the red carpet of the 37th Festival de Cannes, of which she was one of the members of the jury.

8. Her Son is a Film Producer

Carole Bouquet had a relationship with the producer Jean-Pierre Rassam with whom she had a son, Dimitri Rassam, also a producer.

Dimitri Rassam founded the production company CHAPTER 2 in 2005. He has produced over 20 films, including The Little Prince by Mark Osborne which won the 2016 César Awards for Best Animated Film.

9. She was Married to Jacques Leibowitch

Carole Bouquet and Jacques Leibowitch were married for 4 years. They dated for 1 year before getting married in 1992. They divorced 4 years later in 1996.

Jacques Leibowitch was a French medical doctor and clinical researcher known for his contributions to the knowledge and treatment of HIV and AIDS, starting with his initial designation of a human retrovirus as the cause of AIDS.

10. She was Nominated for Best Supporting Actress 

Carole Bouquet was recognized for her work in Luis Buñuel’s surrealist classic That Obscure Object of Desire in 1977. The film was a success and she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress.

Rive Droite, rive gauche is a French film directed by Philippe Labro, in which she starred with Gérard Depardieu and Nathalie Baye.
