The Nuuk Art Museum is a national museum located in the Nuuk capital of Greenland. The museum has notable collections which include paintings, watercolours, drawings, graphics, and figures in soapstone, ivory, and wood.
Most of these collections were collected mostly by the businessman who was known as Svend Junge. The museum mostly contains collections of Emanuel A. Petersen which are over 150 paintings.

1. It was Founded by Svend and Helene Junge
The museum was founded mainly by the private collection of Svend together with Helene Junge. These private collections formed the basis of the Nuuk Art Museum and are the museum’s main and permanent exhibition.
The original collections of the museum, which are assembled over a lifetime are extensive and eclectic. This original collection demonstrates the different gazes and variety of artistic endeavours in Greenland over time.
2. The Museum was a Donation
The museum was founded on 22 May 2005. It occupies one of the old Seventh-day Adventist Church buildings in Nuuk, which was a Donation.
The museum was donated to the people of the Municipality of Nuuk Svend and Helene Junge. The construction of the art museum was completed and inaugurated on 21 June 2007 during Greenland National Day.
3. Started as a Graphic Workshop
Nuuk’s graphics workshop was opened in the year 1975. This led to the first ever generation of home-grown Greenlandic artists where Previously specialised in graphics and painting.
The workshop which is now the National Art School of Greenland trains five budding artists every year. Recently the museum has rolled out a program called the artist-in-residence program.

Between August and November 2016, the art museum started exhibiting various Weather Diaries. It was a collaboration between Iceland together with the Faroe Islands and Greenland. The diary was presented by artists Nina Gorfer and Sarah Cooper.
Through their photo-portrait series, they examined the intersection between various things such as fashion, climate, heritage and identity in the West Nordic countries. This daily became the first and the largest internationally-acclaimed exhibition at the museum.
