Top 10 Most Famous Footballers (Soccer) from the Czech Republic


 

The Czech Republic was formed in 1992 after the breakup of Czechoslovakia and has had little success in the World Cup qualifying only once in 2006 but they have already made the final of the European Championship in 1996 and a semi-final in 2004.

The former Czechoslovakia national team which was mostly made up of players from what is now the Czech Republic had even more success reaching two World Cups finals and winning the European Championship in 1976.

The Czech has clearly been a recruiting ground for some very naturally gifted footballers.

Nurturing and producing phenomenon talents is one of the important prerequisites of a footballing nation and Czech as a football country has often done a good job in producing brilliant footballers that dazzled fans of the game with their talents.

1. Petr Cech

Petr Cech is a retired top goalkeeper who is best known for being Chelsea’s goalkeeper. However, he also served Arsenal for four years at the end of his career making a total of 139 appearances.

He is one of those top European goalkeepers with a host of records to his name if not actually the second or third European goalkeeper with the most number of records.

He is also the most-capped Czech footballer ever with 124 appearances that he made for his country’s national team between 2002 and 2016.

2. Jan Koller

Jan is a retired footballer who was born in former Czechoslovakia but played for the Czech Republic national team since there was no Czechoslovakia anymore at the time actually in 1999.

He served 8 European clubs during his career among them are the top clubs Borussia Dortmund and Anderlecht.

He became the Czech Republic’s top scorer of all time in 2005 with 39 goals and he just improved his record until 2009 with 16 more goals he scored for the Czech national team registering a record of 55 goals in total which is not yet broken by any other footballer.

He was named Belgian Pro League top scorer from 1988 to 1999 season and Czech Footballer of the year in 1999.

3. Tomas Rosicky

Tomas Rosicky is a retired footballer who played as an attacking midfielder or winger for only three clubs during his career.

He captained the Czech national team for 10 years and won 8 trophies during his career with Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund including two FA Cups and one Bundesliga title not only that he was named Czech footballer of the year for three years namely 2001, 2002, and 2006.

He was described as a “solid playmaker” by BBC and a player with “great technique, skill on the ball and sharp passing” by Arsene Wenger of Arsenal.

Rosicky is known for his ability to organize the game in the middle of the pitch the ability of which he was called “the little Mozart” during his service to Borussia Dortmund.

4. Josef Bican

Josef is actually a phenomenon in Czech football and maybe in the world of football concerning the number of goals he scored during his career.

He scored a total of 798 goals in the 495 club appearances that he made and if you add the 29 goals that he scored at the international level in 34 appearances then you can say he scored 827 goals in the total 529 appearances that he made throughout his career.

However, according to some sources, the numbers are even greater they say Josef scored more than 948 goals in all his official and unofficial appearances which sum up to 621 in total.

Moreover, whatever figure to believe there is no doubt that Josef is the world’s top scorer ever in the history of football which means no other footballer has scored more than him to this date even Pele, Lionel Messi, and Cristiano Ronaldo though the two latter have still time to improve their goal scoring records.

5. Marek Janukulovski

Marek is arguably one of AC Milan’s most efficient and finest defenders in the history of the Rossoneri for his sheer quality, leadership, dedication, and undiluted strength.

He is well known for his wicked and defense-troubling crosses to the opponent’s box throughout his illustrious career for both the national team and Milan where he had the best of his club football career.

He racked up 77 caps for Czech before he called it quits with an international assignment in a team that had arguably the finest talents in the modern era of Czech’s football history.

6. Antonin Puc

He is a passed former Czechoslovakia footballer who played as a winger and striker during his career which lasted from 1925 to 1941.

He served Slavia Prague for a major part of his career namely Viktoria Zizkov and Sk Smichov only for a year or two.

He was a prolific goal scorer with the Czechoslovakia national team for who he scored 34 goals in 60 appearances between 1926 and 1938.

7. Antonin Panenka

Antonin is a retired footballer who played as an attacking midfielder for six different clubs most of them from Austria during his career.

He is the product of Bohemians Praha and currently is the chairman of the same club. He won all his club trophies with the Austrian club, Rapid Wien including two Austrian Bundesliga titles and three Austrian Cups.

He is known as the inventor of the chip shot and the first footballer ever in the history of football to have used the technique to score a penalty that won Czechoslovakia the UEFA Euro Championship.

8. Pavel Nedved

Currently, he is the vice chairman of the top Serie A club Juventus. He served the Italian club for almost far of his career and he made a total of 327 appearances and scored 65 goals for them across all competitions.

He won 16 trophies with Juventus, Lazio, and Sparta Prague including three Serie A titles, four Italian Super Cups, and two Czech First League titles.

He is the only Czech footballer to this date who has won the Golden Foot award. He is not only known for his long blonde hair but also for his top dribbling and crossing abilities and his powerful shots and volleys from distance.

9. Josef Masopust

Josef is one only footballer among the best Czech soccer players in history along with Pavel Nedved to have won the Ballon d’Or trophy.

He is a passed footballer from the former Czechoslovakia who served only three clubs namely Dukla Prague, ZSJ Technomat Teplice, and the Belgian club.

He not only won 14 club trophies during his career but also has some individual honors to his name among them are Czechoslovak Footballer of the Year in 1966, UEFA Czech Golden Player in 2003, and Ballon d’Or in 1962. He is also like Pavel Nedved on Pele’s FIFA 100 list.

10. Patrick Berger

Patrick is a Czech retired footballer who won four trophies playing for Liverpool between 1996 and 2003.

Renowned for his powerful strikes and strong left foot he was named Czech Footballer of the Year in 1996.

He also competed in important tournaments for his national team and helped his team reach the finals of the 1996 UEFA European Championship.
