Katie Liu Leung was born on the 8th of August 1987. She is a Scottish actress who has been active since 2004. Leung is interested in arts and has done studies in painting and design at the University of the Arts London. She also holds degrees in photography and theatre, from Edinburgh College of Art and Royal Conservatoire of Scotland respectively. 1 Her early life

Katie was born in Dundee, Scotland. She spent most of her childhood in Motherwell, North Lanarkshire and for this reason it is usually misidentified as her birthplace. Katie did her secondary education at Hamilton College, South Lanarkshire. She gets her Cantonese descent from her father, Peter Leung and her mother Kar Wai Li. Her father worked as a Hong Kong businessman and restaurateur who opened a company in Glasgow. Her mother was a Hong Kong banker and they got divorced when Katie was three years old. She stayed with her father, stepmother and siblings in Scotland while her mother moved back to Hong Kong.

2 An actress

There was a casting call done for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire film. Leung’s father saw the advertisement and suggested she should try out. During the auditions she waited four hours in line to make a five-minute appearance. Two weeks later, she was called back for a workshop and was cast as Cho Chang. She ended up beating over 3,000 other girls for the part all the while feeling a little likelihood of obtaining the role.

Leung was cast by Gold Label Records, a subsidiary of EMI in Hong Kong in July 2007 as the female lead in the music video Love Coming Home by Leo Ku. Ku described her acting as “professional” and “mature”. Katie has gone to make several features and starred in Movies and TV miniseries.

Leung has done several features and made a couple of appearances in movies and TV series. She played Hsui Tai in the episode “Cat Among the Pigeons” of ITV1’s Agatha Christie’s Poirot that premiered on ITV on 21 September 2008. She starred in the Channel 4 four-part drama series Run as leading character Ying. This happened in June 2012 and it was about an undocumented Chinese immigrant who sells pirate DVDs and stolen phones on the streets of Brixton in the hope of making a life for herself in the UK. However, she must first pay her debts to the Snakeheads who smuggled her into Britain.

In 2013 at the National Theatre, Leung starred in The World of Extreme Happiness in which she played Sunny. She also appeared in the BBC’s production Father Brown crime drama series. Leung went on to play the role of Mei in the TV miniseries One Child. This was announced in April 2014 and her role would be about a first-born Chinese girl adopted by an American mother and British father. In 2016 at the Hampstead Theatre, London Leung appeared in the Tony Kushner play The Intelligent Homosexual’s Guide to Capitalism and Socialism with a Key to the Scriptures. By 2017, she played the role of Fan, in a movie The Foreigner. Here she co-starred with Jackie Chan and Pierce Brosnan, and was Jackie Chan’s character’s daughter.

6 She is charitable

One of the things that is amazing about Katie Leung is that she is charitable. In 2007, she helped The Prince’s Trust charity raise £100,000. She accomplished this by launching a children’s art competition and also donated one of her own paintings which was auctioned for £960.

With a passion for photography, she was one of two celebrities who donated a photo to Sightsavers International’s I:Click 2009 competition. Sightsavers International is a charitable organization to combat blindness in poor countries.

She wanted to go back to the university to study art and design. However, she attended a drama course at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Here she became inspired and more decided on acting as her career.
