Jaycee Joming Chan is known professionally as Jaycee Chan. He is a Chinese singer and actor. In 2004, he released his first Mandarin CD album in Hong Kong. He later went to Taiwan to continue his music career.

He is best known as the son of Hong Kong-born Chinese actor and martial artist Jackie Chan and Taiwanese actress Joan Lin.

He was born and raised in Los Angeles, California, United States. He moved to Hong Kong in 2003 to pursue an acting career. After launching his acting career with the 2004 Chinese action fantasy film, The Twins Effect II, he came to the limelight following his breakout role as Officer Wai King-ho in the 2007 Chinese action film, Invisible Target, and as Fei Xiaohu in the 2009 Chinese action war film, Mulan.

1. Jaycee was arrested and jailed for using marijuana

In 2014, he was arrested and jailed for the possession and distribution of marijuana. Another charge was accommodating drug users at his apartment in Beijing. He was sentenced to six months in state prison and served out his full sentence behind bars.

His accomplice Kai Ko was arrested too but was only detained for two weeks and subsequently deported.

Their reputation was severed and they both lost a few movie endorsements. His arrest was an embarrassment to his father Jackie Chan who is an anti-drug ambassador.

2. He will not inherit his father’s fortune

Jaycee’s father is the renowned Jackie Chan. He has accumulated massive wealth after a successful career as an actor and director. He has however said that his only son will not inherit the wealth. He claims that his entire net worth will be donated to charity.

Jackie has elaborated the statement by saying that he wishes that Jaycee will make his own money. He is one strict father. He has also expressed that he wishes he had enrolled Jaycee in the army when he was young.

It could be because Jaycee is a rebel and has gotten into trouble many times.

3. He has been referred to as a playboy and a spendthrift

Jaycee is no stranger to controversy. He has been often regarded as a spendthrift and playboy. His films and songs have failed to achieve economic or critical success despite extensive marketing and support.

He was named one of China’s top “wastrel” fuerdai by People’s Daily in 2014. This was after his arrest after being caught with marijuana.

His arrest in 2014 saw him lose multi-million dollar endorsements and contracts from Adidas, Nivea, Yishion, Johnson & Johnson contact lenses, Stride gum, KFC, and Chevrolet.

4. Jaycee has a half-sister whom he has never met

His father had an affair with former Hong Kong beauty queen Elaine Ng. this relationship bore him a daughter Etta Ng, who was born in 1999.

There is no love lost between the two ex-lovers. Jackie Cahn did not contribute in the raising of his daughter and he denied that he was the father when the news first became public.

Etta thus is Jaycee’s half-sister. They have however never met.

5. He found school to be boring

Jaycee did not graduate from school. He chose to pursue a career in music. He only completed two semesters at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia.

Jaycee has said in interviews that he was never good at studying and found school to be boring. He signed with a record label and has released albums ever since.

6. His acting career is not as impressive as his dad

Jaycee’s film debut was with the movie, ‘The Twins Effect II’, in 2004. It was followed by a minor role in the Hong Kong romance feature film ‘2 Young’. After that, he co-starred with Nicholas Tse and Shawn Yue in Benny Chan’s action picture, ‘Invisible Target’.

His movies were advertised massively but were never commercially successful. For example, in the first two weeks of the Hong Kong release of ‘Double Trouble’, the movie earned only $9,000.

Father and son joined forces in the movie, ‘1911’. This movie turned out to be one of the worst movies for both of them.

7. Jaycee is a musician and songwriter

Jaycee is also a musician and singer. He composed music and wrote the lyrics for 10 out of the 13 tracks on his first album, ‘Jaycee’, released in 2004, in Mandarin.

His hobbies and interests include music. He often listens to music in his free time and enjoys a variety of genres. He is proficient in playing the guitar and writing songs.

This is unfortunate as his music career has not been successful over the years.

8. Jaycee is a voice actor

Jaycee provided the voice for the young monkey in ‘Kung Fu Panda: Secrets of the Furious Five. He was also the voice actor for Master Crane in the ‘Kung Fu Panda’ Cantonese version, along with its sequel.

He was involved in voicing the younger version of his father’s character, Master Monkey, in the 2008 animated short film, Secrets of the Furious Five, and.

9. He has a lavish lifestyle

As the son of a famous father, Jaycee Chan has grown up with a lavish lifestyle. He loves luxury cars.

The apartment,  where Jaycee was arrested and used to live was pretty lavish.  It is located in Beijing’s Dongcheng district. It is a jumbo flat spanning 1,200 square meters and has six bedrooms and three living rooms.

After the arrest, Jackie Chan made an attempt to sell it. Due to its luxurious fittings and prime location, the starting bid for the mansion was fixed at 71.9mil yuan (S$14mil).

10. Jaycee was raised by a strict dad

Jackie Chan is a favorite of many. He is funny and quite lovable. It would come as a surprise that he is a very strict dad. Jaycee has publicly claimed that the only method of discipline was being smacked or hit.

Jackie Chan believes in smacking as a form of discipline. He has confessed to having beat Jaycee so hard that the mother got really scared. He said that he regretted it and never did it again. He says that he was not the best dad as he was not very involved in his upbringing because he was always working.

His strictness was brought out again when Jaycee was arrested. He refused to use his influence to get him out. Instead, he said the country was disciplining him to correct his bad habits.
