Daniel Wu was born on September 30, 1974, in Berkeley, California, USA. He is a Chinese American, Hong Kong actor, director and producer. He is the son of Diana, a college professor, and George Wu, a retired engineer.
He has two older sisters, Gloria and Greta and an older brother who died when he was two. Wu married on April 6, 2010, Lisa. S. They are blessed with a daughter, Raven, born in June 2013.
Wu developed an interest in martial arts when he saw Jet Lin in The Shaolin Temple and Donnie Yen in Iron Monkey and began studying Wushu at age of 11. Jackie Chan was Wu’s childhood role model and he considers Wu ‘like a son’. Wu went to Head-Royce School and later specialized in architecture at the University of Oregon where he founded the University of Oregon Wushu Club In 1994 and he was the first team coach.
Wu has received several Awards. Some of the awards include Hong Kong Film Awards for Best New Director (2007) and the Golden Horse Awards for Best Supporting Actor (2004) among others.

1. He is a Producer
Daniel Wu is mostly known as an actor by many people however he is not only an actor but he is also an executive producer in the AMC show.
Some AMC shows such as ‘Into the Badlands, which has been renewed for a third season since the martial-art show is amongst the best-rated scripted drama on cable. It is as well most watched all over and people can wait for its return.
2. Daniel Founded A boy band
The famous actor formed a band called Alive. Other people search as Andrew Lin, Terence Yin and Conroy Chi-Chung Chan took part in forming the band in 2005. The aim of forming the band was to make the film ‘The Heavenly Kings’ in the year 2006.
The film was believed a mockumentary of the Hong Kong pop music entertainment industry based on their experience. This made Daniel Wu rewarded with the Chinese Film Media Award for best director.
3. He was nominated for an Award in the Architecture World’s ‘Oscars’
Daniel graduated from the University of Oregon’s architecture programme in 1997. He was nominated for the Royal Institute of British Architects International Prize. The award is considered the British ‘Oscars’ of the architecture world. Daniel was nominated for the design he used in the library building in China.
The library is inspired by the traditional Mongolian yurt, it is located in Mulan Paddock, China’s northern Chengde city in Hebei Province. The design used in the library was Skylight, allowing abundant sunlight to come through during the day as well as at night.
4. He is an Actor
Daniel Wu is one of the leading actors in the Chinese language film industry. He has been featured in over 60 films since his film debut in Bishonen in 1998. It is interesting to know that Wu does not speak Cantonese language fluently or even read Chinese but despite all that he has made his career successful and been one of the best actors.
Since Daniel does not read Chinese, his assistance helps in reading the Cantonese film scripts for him. This helps Wu to make notes and master pronunciation. This shows how Daniel is determined and focused on his career and never has let any obstacle stop him from winning.
5. Nominated as the Best New Actor at Hong Kong Film Award
It is interesting to know that Daniel was nominated for the Best New Actor at the Hong Kong Film Awards after acting in the ‘City of Glass’ his second film right after ‘Bishonen’. He was as well nominated for the Hong Kong Film Award in 2005.
Hong Kong Film Awards is an annual film awards ceremony in Hong Kong which is celebrated in April, it was founded in 1982. The Awards recognize achievement in various aspects of filmmaking.
6. Nominated for the Best Actor at the Golden Horse Film Awards in Taiwan
Daniel made his debut production in Julian Lee’s ‘Night Corridor’ in 2003. The movies and a fixed budget and the finances could not be enough if misused. Wu made good choices in managing the funding and distribution of the film.
His acting role in Night Corridor movies made him get nominated for Best Actor at the Golden Horse Film Awards in Taiwan. Golden Horse Film Awards was founded in 1962, the original intention was to promote Taiwanese film production and aim at encourage the development of Chinese-language films.
7. Founded the Oregon Wushu Club
Daniel Wu founded the Oregon Wushu Club and became the coach. He formed the club while he was still in university in 1994. The first coach formed the Oregon Wushu Club to promote Wushu in the United States, specifically at the collegiate level. Wu was performing at local theatres and went to film classes at the same time as he was training students.
8. He Participated in Charity Work
The actor despite being in the film and entertainment industry as well takes part in charity work to help the needy and the aged. The American actor has contributed to charitable organisations severally.
Some of the charitable institutions he took part in helping are ‘The Nature Conservancy and Habitat For `Humanity’. He has donated to these organizations for several years.
9. He has Featured in Many Film
The American actor, director and producer has been featured in many films. Since his film debut in 1998, he has been featured in approximately over 60 films. Some of the films he took part in include;
Tomb Raider (2018), The Banquet (2006), Naked Weapon (2002), Shinjuku Incident (2009), One Nite in Mongkok (2004), Hit Team (2001), 2000 AD (2000), Divergence (2005), Enter the Phoenix (2004) and Reminiscence (2021) among others.
10. April 2007, Wu Re-Launched his Band’s Old Website
The producer was the founder of Alive band in the year 2005 together with Terence Yin, Andrew Lin, and Conroy Chi- Chung Chan. The bad later died but in 2007 April, Wu re-launched his band’s old website, AliveNotDead.com. Daniel managed to re-launch with help of Terence Yin, Patrick Lee (Rotten Tomatoes.com founder) and Stephen Wang.
The aim of re-launching the Alive Band was to use the place for filmmakers, musicians, and other artists to collaborate, receive exposure, network, and interact with fans.
