Daitan National Park was established during the Japanese occupation. President Chiang Kai-shek renamed Caoshan Yangmingshan in 1950 to honor Ming Dynasty scholar Wang Yangming. The area was rezoned to include Jinshan in 1963, and Yangmingshan National Park, was established on that basis.

The park’s overall flora distribution is heavily influenced by the volcanic terrain. Low temperatures and high humidity during winter have caused “altitude migration” of plant species.
The park’s floral life is divided into three major categories: aquatic, grassland, and forest vegetation. Aquatic plants are mostly found in crater marshes and reservoir ponds. The vegetation within the park frequently changes appearance to coincide with seasonal changes. This makes it a spectacular sight not to be missed.

8. The park has a seasonal scenery
Yangmingshan National Park’s climate patterns are subtropical and warm temperate. It has prominent seasonal monsoons, due to its latitude and elevation above sea level.
During the summer, the south-west monsoons bring thunderstorms in the afternoon. Rainbows appear across mountain valleys as the rainy mist dissipates, revealing a different side of Yangmingshan on rainy days.
Silver grass forms an undulating sea of flowers in October. As the season progresses, red maple leaves adorn the treetops. They intertwine with golden leaves to form the famous “Datun Autumn Scene.”
In the winter, the northeast monsoons dump freezing rains on the mountains. During cold spells, the combination of high humidity and cold temperatures turns the park into a foggy and misty world. Snow even falls around the mountain areas, covering everything in a silvery whiteness.
