 Alireza is an Iranian professional footballer who plays as a Winger and attacking midfielder for Eredivisie club Feyenoord and the Iran National Team. He has represented Iran at the 2014 FIFA World Cup, 2015bAFC Asian Cup, 2018 FIFA World cup, and the 2019 AFC Asian Cup. He also represented Iran at the U20 and U23 levels.

He was born on 11th August 1993 in Jirandeh a city located in Rudbar county, Gilan province and he later grew up in Qazvin to Tahere Mehregan Fard and Rahim Jahanbakhsh Jirandeh. He is married to Sahebeh Jahanbakhsh and has one child. 

He was voted the second greatest young talent of the 2013- 2014 Eredivise season. In the year 2017- 2018, during the Eredivise season, he scored 21 league goals which made him the first Asian player to become the top scorer in a major European league. His current team is Feyenoord.

1. Interest in Football and How He Got to Start His Career

His interest in football began while he was still a young boy, while still in school he chose football club over tykodo. In his youth, he played in Rasht and Persian Qazvin before joining the youth academy of Damash Tehran in 2008.

He started his career in Tehran with Damash Tehran, at the age of 17 in 2011, he returned to Gilan and played his first game for Damash Gilan in the Iran Pro League against Mes. He was Damash’s youngest player ever. 

On 15th January 2012, he scored his first goal in a 1-0 victory against Fajr. He scored 10 goals in the 42 league appearance with Damash. Ever since he has scored so many goals and also received so many honors.

Jahanbakhs has played in several clubs since he started his career in football. In the year 2010 – 2011 he joined Damash Tehran which was his first club at the start of his career. At the age of 17, he returned to Gilan and joined the Damash Gilan club. He was Damash Gilan’s youngest player.

On 26th May 2013, he made an agreement with Dutch Eredivise outfit NEC for a three-year deal. On 1st July 2013, he officially joined the club. 2014 – 2015 he joined Eerste Divisie. On 2013- 2015 he played for the NEC club.2015- 2018 he played for AZ. Later he signed a contract for Brighton & Hove Albion from 2018- 2021. He is currently playing for Feyenoord.

3. Being in an International Team at a Young Age

At 16 years, Jahanbakhs was already a part of the squad that played at the 2010 AFC U- 19 Championship in china and he played in two games.

Under the same age group, he captained the national under- 20 teams for their successful 2012 AFC U- 19 Championship qualification and scored 5 goals in four appearances.

In March 2015, Jahanbakhsh was called into Iran’s Olympic qualifiers and was named the team captain. With Jahanbakhsh as the team leader, his team the under- 23 qualified for the 2016 AFC U- 23 championships which were held in Qatar unfortunately, they were not held during the FIFA International Match Calendar. However, the AZ Alkmaar club did not release him.

On 1^st June 2014, he was called into Iran’s 2014 FIFA World Cup squad by Carlos Queiroz. In May 2018, he was named in Iran’s squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, where he played all three group matches against Morocco, Spain and Portugal.

5. His First International Goal

On 5th October 2013, Jahankbakhsh was called up to Team Melli in a 2015 Asian Cup qualifier against Thailand. During the match, he served his first cup as a substitute in the 82nd minute. His 1st National team goal came in his second game held on 15th November in a 3-0 win at Thailand.

He was called to play Iran’s 2014 FIFA World Cup squad which was held on 1st June 2014 and he played in all three matches against Nigeria, Argentina, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. On 30th December 2014, he was called into Iran’s 2015 AFC Asian Cup squad and he scored the second goal in June 2016 in a 2-0 World Cup qualifier victory against Qatar.

Alongside those goals, he has participated in other international matches and has scored goals in almost all tournaments. It is recorded that on the international team he has scored a total of 13 goals.

Jahanbakhs has made so many honors in his football career. While he was in NEC club he received an honor from Eerste Divisie, AZ club he was honored for KNVB Cup runner-up; 2016-17 and 2017- 2018. Feyenoord club he was honored for UEFA Europa Conference League runner–up 2021-22.

As an individual he has been honored for: Eerste Divisie first period player of the season 2014-15, Eerste Divisie as the best player of the season, Eredivisie Top Scorer 2017- 18 he scored 21 goals, Premier League Goal of the Month, and Feyenoord Goal of season 2021-22.

8. His Current Club; Feyenoord

Feyenoord announced on 17th July 2021 that Jahanbakhsh had joined the club on a 3-year contract with an option for a fourth year. Jahanbakhsh made his debut for the club in the second leg of the UEFA Conference League tie against FC Drita on 29th July.

 He began the match but later substituted in the 3-2 home victory, with Feyenoord also going through 3-2 on aggregate. His second goal for the club was on 12th August, when he scored a 3-0 win against FC Luzern in the third qualifying round of the 2021- 2022 UEFA Europa conference League.

 9. His Input on Brighton & Hove Albion Club

On 25th July 2018, he signed a five-year contract and announced on his Instagram that he will wear number 16, it was the same that he used to wear in his first season at NEC. He made a great debut for Brighton as a substitute in the club’s opening match of the Premier League season against Watford.

Although he played 25 matches in the season due to Injuries and poor performance he amounted to no goals and no assists. The following season, the club changed its manager but he was rarely found in the matches until 8th December 2019 when he came as a substitute and on the 28th he scored his first goal for his club.

In January 2020, he scored an equalizing kick goal against Chelsea. The goal was voted by people as the Premier League Goal of the month which he described as the best goal he has ever scored.

Like many celebrities seen all over the world, Jahanbakhsh is seen as a humble footballer who really misses scoring goals in any match and has no ink of his skin. He seems not to have an interest in some things such as these.
