Michelle Yeoh Choo Kheng, PSM (/jo/ YOH; born 6 August 1962) is a Malaysian Chinese actress best known internationally for her roles in the James Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies (1997) and Ang Lee’s Academy Award-winning martial arts film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000). In her early Hong Kong films, Yeoh is credited as Michelle Khan.

Yeoh, who was born in Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia, to a Malaysian Chinese family, won the Miss Malaysia beauty contest at the age of 20 in 1983. She rose to prominence in the early 1990s after appearing in a string of Hong Kong action films in which she performed her own stunts, including Yes, Madam (1985), Police Story 3: Supercop (1992), and Holy Weapon (1993). 

For her performance in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, she was nominated for a BAFTA Award for Best Actress.

Michelle Yeoh has nearly 40 years of professional acting experience. She has become an international star as a result of her roles in films such as Tomorrow Never Dies, Crazy Rich Asians, and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

Michelle has proven that she can play a wide range of characters and that she can entertain anyone. She not only has a long list of impressive credits to her name, but she is also booked through 2028.

She will appear in several upcoming films, including The School for Good and Evil and the rest of the Avatar franchise. Here are ten facts about Michelle Yeoh that you probably didn’t know.

1. She can professionally dance ballet

Michelle has become well-known throughout the world for her acting, but dancing was her first love. She began ballet lessons when she was about four years old.

She majored in ballet while studying at the Royal Academy of Dance in London. Unfortunately, she suffered a spinal injury and was unable to complete the program. She went on to major in creative arts and drama.

Michelle has appeared in several action films throughout her career, and she is well-known for performing many of her own stunts. Despite being injured several times over the years, she has always liked doing the stunts. Her ballet training has helped her develop some of the stunt skills she requires.

3. She enjoys spending time outside

Michelle, despite being an obvious natural in the spotlight, enjoys her time away from the chaos of the entertainment industry. Her favorite pastime is being outside, and she enjoys a variety of outdoor activities such as hiking and boating.

4. She launched her own production company

Michelle isn’t just interested in the creative side of entertainment; she’s also serious about her business. She founded a production company called Mythical Films, but it’s uncertain if it’s still active. We couldn’t find a website or any other online presence.

Yeoh is without a doubt the greatest female action star in film history. Even though she is still doing action films in her 60s, she says that leading roles like this don’t come along very often for women.

“You reach a point in your life and career where you realize, ‘I’m being sort of overlooked here,’ because you’ve been relegated to these types of [minor] roles.” It appears that the guys are doing it. In their 60s and 70s, they still look like superheroes. “Why doesn’t a woman get the chance to be that?”

5. How many languages does Michelle speak?

It’s always useful to be able to communicate in more than one language when working in an international industry like entertainment. Michelle is fluent in three languages. She speaks English, Malay, and Cantonese. Before learning Cantonese, she learned English and Malay. You may also say she is trilingual.

Michelle’s beauty has never gone undetected, and they have even gotten her a lot of attention. She was crowned Miss Malaysia in 1983. That same year, she traveled to Australia and won several pageants, including Miss Moomba and Queen of the Pacific. 

7. She practices Buddhasim as a religion

Michelle was born into a Buddhist family and practices Buddhism to this day. Her spirituality and faith are very crucial elements of her life. Michelle stated in an interview with Lions Roar, “Buddhist philosophy grounds you as a person.” Every one of us is always looking.”

8. She enjoys helping others

Michelle has been using her voice to raise more awareness for causes that are significant to her throughout her career. She has always been an advocate for women’s rights and has worked to inspire and empower other women. She has also been involved in a number of initiatives to assist those in need.

“It’s very important to appreciate and enjoy what you have, and to share it with others,” Michelle told Lions Roar. You have this very glamorous life in Hollywood, but how do you find balance?

It is not always possible to be superficial. The spiritual side is what keeps you balanced and helps you realize that it’s not about the bigger car, bigger house, or bigger role. You’re always looking for something. You must find something.”

9. Enjoys traveling around the world

Michelle has a sense of adventure and enjoys exploring new places whenever she has the opportunity. She is required to travel all over the world as part of her job.

She enjoys traveling and has visited several countries, including France and New Zealand. She enjoys getting out and about in nature, no matter where she goes.
