Kim Victoria Cattrall is a British and Canadian actress, best known for her role as Samantha Jones on HBO’s Sex and the City. She was born on 21st August 1956 in Liverpool.
Cattrall is a renowned actress that has received many Emmys and Golden Globe Award Nominations. She won the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress for the Samantha Jones role in 2 002.
Her latest project is in the cast of ‘How I Met Your Mother’ a spinoff of the series titled ‘How I Met Your Father’.

1. Kim was Born in the United Kingdom But She Grew Up in Canada
Kim was born in the United Kingdom but her family moved to Canada and settled in the community of Little River outside of Vancouver when Cattrall was only three months old.
Her parents were Engineer Dennis Cattrall and Gladys Shane (née Baugh) who was a secretary. She had three siblings, Cherry Kuss her older sister, Lisa Cattrall who is her younger sister, and her younger brother Chris Cattrall.
She lost her dad and brother in 2012 and 2018 respectively.
2. Kim Has Multiple Citizenships
Cattrall is a citizen of America, Canada, and the United Kingdom. She was born in the United Kingdom and migrated to Canada before she became an American citizen.
This is to say that, Kim had dual British and Canadian citizenship for most of her life till she became an American citizen in 2020.
3. She Started Acting When She Was Young
When Kim Cattrall was only 11 years old, she took an acting examination at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.
She moved to New York after graduating from Georges P. Vanier Secondary School in 1972 and attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. She graduated and signed a five-year contract with director Otto Preminger after which she debuted in his action thriller film the rosebud in 1975.
From then on, her acting career soared to great heights, making appearances in various award-winning movies, television series, theatres, music videos, and films.
4. Kim Has Won Many Awards Over the Years
As stated earlier, Cattrall is a successful renowned actress whose brilliant acting career has enabled her to win seven awards and over ten nominations for her memorable acting roles.
She won her first award in 1999 in the Women in Film Crystal plus Lucy Awards, which she shared with Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis, and Cynthia Nixon for the famous Sex and The City television series.
Other awards that she has won include Screen Actors Guild Award (2002 and 2004), and Golden Globe Award (2003), In 2011, Cattrall and her fellow actors and crew won 3 awards (two Golden Raspberry Awards and one GLAAD Media Award) for their role in the comedy series Sex and The City.
In 2005, Cattrall was ranked eighth in TV Guide’s 50 sexiest stars of all time.

Before getting her role in Sex and the City, Cattrall had declined the role three times. In 1999, Cattrall was cast in Darren Star’s steamy series Sex and the City broadcasted by HBO, whose character was Samantha Jones.
The role enabled her to exploit her success by appearing in Pepsi One television commercials. Cattrall’s role enabled her to be nominated for four Golden Globe Awards (won one in 2002) and five Emmy Awards, among others.
Sex and the City garnered 10.6 million viewers when it ended after running for six seasons, and she reprised her role as Samantha Jones in the Sex and the City film. The film was released on 30 th May 2008, after which a sequel was also released in May 2010.
In 2008, she was named an ultimate Icon by the Cosmopolitan UK Ultimate Women Of The Year Awards for her role as Samantha Jones.
6. Kim’s Maternal Grandfather Abandoned His Family
After Kim Cattrall took part in the BBC One documentary series “Who Do You Think You Are?” in August 2009, she learned that her grandfather George Baugh had disappeared in 1938.
He had abandoned Cattrall’s mother and two younger sisters. A year later, he bigamously married a new wife, Isabella Oliver. He got four other children with his new wife.
Cattrall learned that her grandfather emigrated to Australia in 1961 and became a postmaster. He retired in 1972 and passed away in 1974 in Sydney.
Cattrall’s mother and aunts knew nothing about their father’s life until they heard about it in the documentary series and had not previously seen a clear photograph of him.
A series with the same name was released in the United States and an edited version of that episode was aired.
7. A Teapot Saved Her Life
Kim Cattrall almost died on December 21, 1988. She had booked a plane ticket to board the ill-fated Pan Am Flight 103, which was tragically hit by a terrorist bomb.
Cattrall’s life was saved when she missed the flight due to a last-minute errand she had. She was running late after she had gone to pick up a teapot from Harrold’s, a Christmas gift for her mother.
The bomb on board caused the plane to crash, killing everyone on board, including 243 passengers and 16 crew on board. Up to date, Cattrall cherishes the teapot for saving her life.
8. She Has Been in Three Different Marriages
Cattrall has been married 3 times to different people. Her first marriage to Larry Davis was annulled after two years (1977 to 1979). Her second marriage was from 1982 to 1989 to Andre J. Lyson and her third was to Mark Levinson from 1998 to 2004 whom they co-authored a book.
9. She Has Two Honorary Degrees
She has two honorary degrees. The first was an Honorary Fellowship from Liverpool John Moores University in 2010 in recognition of her contributions to the dramatic arts. The second one was from the University of British Columbia in 2018.
