1. The fort was built in 1874

Fort Macleod was built in 1874. The fort measures 70 by 70 metres. It was separated into the west side and the east side which was used to house the men on the east side and the west side was used by the Mounties. Amenities like stores, guardrooms and hospitals were housed in the southern end.

The fort was first established in 1874 along the Oldman River and then it was moved to the present town location in 1884.

2. As of 2021 the town of Macleod had a population of 3,297 people

The census done in 2021 by Statistics Canada showed that the town’s population was 3,297 people. Out of the total 1440 dwellings that are found in the town, 1,342 houses were occupied. The population of the town has seen an increase in the number of people residing there in that according to a previous census conducted in 2016, the town has 2,967 people living in it.

The increase in the number of residents is a good thing for the town in that there will be an increase in the economic standing and also community development will be realised.

3. The town is close to McBride wind farm

The town is only 5 miles away from the McBride Lake Wind Farm. The farm is one of the largest wind farms in the region with a capacity of 75 megawatts of electricity.
