Michael Austin Cera is a Canadian actor and musician. He started his career as a child actor, voicing the character of Brother Bear on the children’s television show The Berenstain Bears and portraying a young Chuck Barris in Confessions of a Dangerous Mind (2002).

He has had numerous roles in United States television and film productions, including the character George Michael Bluth on the sitcom Arrested Development (2003–2006, 2013, 2018–2019). In the article are the top ten facts about Michael Cera.

1. He is the middle child in a family of three kids

Cera was born on 7 June 1988 in Brampton, Ontario. He is the son of Linda and Luigi Cera, a technician. Cera has an older sister, Jordan, and a younger sister, Molly. His father is Sicilian, Romance-speaking people who are indigenous to the island of Sicily, the largest island in the Mediterranean Sea and the largest and most populous of the autonomous regions of Italy.

His mother has Irish, Dutch, Scottish, and English ancestry. His parents both worked for Xerox, qualifying him to come from a working-class family.

2. When did Michael aspire to become an actor?

Michael connected with his dream career when he was sick with Chickenpox. Isn’t that funny? The herd immunity was still not nonexistent in their home since he was able to contract the disease and it was when his plasma cells from the B- cells had not yet created a memory immunity to the communicable disease.

So, when Michael was sick with Chickenpox, he happened to watch Ghostbusters, a 1984 American supernatural comedy film directed and produced by Ivan Reitman and written by Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis. He was ten three years old. I guess his parents were fulfilling and friendly parents who gave their children space to start nurturing themselves when even they are young.

After Michael memorized all the dialogue and idolized Bill Murray in Ghostbusters, he later enrolled in The Second City, Toronto, and took improvisation classes. The Second City is an improvisational comedy enterprise and is the oldest ongoing improvisational theatre troupe. He started acting when he was in grade nine

3. He attended The Heart Lake Secondary School!

Heart Lake Secondary School, commonly known as HLSS or Heart Lake, is a public secondary school in Brampton, Ontario, Canada. It is located at the corner of Conestoga Drive and Wexford Road. The school was founded in 1988 and is a part of the Peel District School Board.

Heart Lake has two SHSM programs in Arts & Culture and Information & Communication technology, as well as both extracurricular band, drama and athletics programs. I think this is why Michael era joined the institution which is a dream school for goal-oriented actors and actresses.

Michael attended physical classes in the institution after he moved from Robert H. Lagerquist Senior Public School. Do not forget he attended Conestoga Public School as well. When he reached grade nine, after starting acting, he completed school online through grade 12.

4. He started acting in commercials

His first role was an unpaid appearance in a Tim Hortons summer camp commercial. By making the appearance he eventually landed him a position in a Pillsbury commercial, in which he poked the Pillsbury Doughboy and had his first role with lines. He found it so dispiriting not to be cast in commercials after auditions.

5. He first appeared in Fox’s sitcom in 2013

To be exclusive, this was not the first time that Micael took a role in Fox shows. It was the second. He had a role in the Fox pilot The Grubbs in 2002, which was never aired. However, Cera successfully auditioned for a part in another Fox sitcom, Arrested Development. This began airing in November 2003 and ran for three seasons.

The show follows the formerly wealthy and dysfunctional Bluth family, with Cera playing George Michael Bluth, the teenage son of character Michael Bluth, played by Jason Bateman. After three seasons, Fox cancelled the series in 2006 due to low viewership, although it had received critical acclaim.

6. Did you know that Cera was once a producer, director and actor in his content?

Cera wrote and starred in a series of short videos released on their website with best friend Clark Duke. Duke originated the idea, as he was enrolled at Loyola Marymount University and used their videos for his film school studies.

In 2007, the pair signed a deal with CBS Television to write, produce, direct, and act in a short-form comedy series entitled Clark and Michael. The show featured guest stars such as David Cross, Andy Richter and Patton Oswalt, and was distributed via CBS’s internet channel, CBS Innertube.

7. Cera starred in Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist

He starred alongside Kat Dennings in the romantic comedy-drama Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist. The film was directed by Peter Sollett. It was written by Lorene Scafaria and based on the novel of the same name by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan. The story tells of teenagers Nick (Cera) and Norah (Dennings), who meet when Norah asks Nick to pretend to be her boyfriend for five minutes.

Throughout the night, they try to find their favourite band’s secret show and search for Norah’s drunken best friend. They played two strangers who bond over their shared love of a band and try to find their secret show.

8. Cera made his theatre debut in 2012

Cera made his theatre debut in a production of Kenneth Lonergan’s play This Is Our Youth in a two-week run during March 2012 at the Sydney Opera House. The play also featured his Scott Pilgrim co-stars Kieran Culkin and Tavi Gevinson.

This Is Our Youth is a play by an American dramatist. The play takes place in Dennis Ziegler’s family’s apartment on the Upper West Side of Manhattan in March 1982. Dennis’s friend Warren Straub, a dejected 19-year-old, has just been kicked out of his house and stolen $15,000 from his abusive lingerie tycoon father.

Dennis, the more wily and domineering of the two, spends some of the money on cocaine, hoping to sell it to a friend for much more. The play explores timeless issues of adolescence and maturity, as well as the Reagan Era in which it is set: the characters feel adrift in 1980s-style materialism.

9. He released his debut album True That in 2014

This was also the year that he made his Broadway debut in the 2014 production of Kenneth Lonergan’s This Is Our Youth. It was self-released on 8 August 2014, via Bandcamp, and recorded and mixed by Cera.

The album has garnered positive reviews from music critics, with many comparing it to the work of Elliott Smith and other indie folk artists. However, some critics have expressed reservations about the album’s length across 21 tracks.

10. Cera is very private about his personal life

Despite that Cera has gone private in his life, in 2016, Aubrey Plaza made public that the pair had dated for about 18 months after filming Scott Pilgrim vs. the World in 2010 and considered getting married.

In March 2022, Amy Schumer, an American stand-up comedian accidentally revealed that Cera was a father, though the child’s name, date of birth, and mother were not disclosed. Later that month he revealed to Extra that the baby was a six-month-old boy.
