Sarah Ann McLachlan is a Canadian singer-songwriter and musician born on January 28, 1968, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and raised in Canada where her music career began. Her love for music began when she was young and eventually moved to Vancouver after signing a contract with a recording company Network spotted her talent when she was part of a local band ‘The October Game before she finished school.

1.Her Fan stalker filed a lawsuit against her
Uwe Vandrei, Sarah’s fan-stalker, filed a lawsuit against her in court. The stalker made the claims that the obsessed letters the used to write to her acted as an inspiration to her hit song ‘Possession’. Unfortunately the fan-stalker, before the trial, committed suicide back in 1994. It was acknowledged that the aim of filing the lawsuit was just to be close to the singer.
2.She has recorded songs for movies
She recorded songs for movies like ‘City of’, and ‘And Toy Story 2’, won 2 Grammys for the album, and also bagged 4 Juno Awards. In 1998, the popular Hollywood movie ‘City of Angels’ was included. “One Dream,” became the theme song for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. In 2010 she also appeared as herself and performed on the American TV drama series Life Unexpected.
3.She got nominated for 21 awards
McLachlan was nominated for 21 Juno Awards and received 8 in total. These categories include ‘Best Music Video’, ‘Female Vocalist of the Year’, ‘Songwriter of the Year’, and ‘Single of the Year’, in addition, she got three Grammy Awards for Best Pop Instrumental Performance, and twice for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.
She then won the Juno Awards for Best Music Video (1992), Album of the Year (1998), Single of the Year (1998), Songwriter of the Year (1998, 2004), Female Vocalist of the Year (1998), and Pop Album of the Year (2004).
She was awarded the International Achievement Award (2000), and the Adult Contemporary Album of the Year (2015). In 1998 Sarah McLachlan was awarded the Elizabeth Cady Stanton Visionary Award, for her support of women’s careers in music. In the same year, she was appointed Officer of the Order of Canada.
4.She got married to her drummer
In 1997, McLachlan got married to her drummer Ashwin Sood. They have 2 daughters together, India Ann, Sushil Sood, and Taja Summer Sood. The couple declared openly the separation in September 2008 after 11 years of marriage.
5.She released over 40 million albums worldwide

McLachlan also helped launch the careers of numerous women singer-songwriters for which she got awarded the Elizabeth Cady Stanton Visionary Award from New York’s Governor George Pataki.

7.She opened the Sarah McLachlan school of music
McLachlan laid the groundwork for the Sarah McLachlan School of Music which officially opened in 2003. The School of Music is an outreach program that provides free after-school musical education, something McLachlan cherished in her youth, for school-aged children in Vancouver. The Sarah McLachlan Music Outreach Program was founded to provide free music and education classes.
8.Her Song was used as the theme of the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver
In 2010, McLachlan released her first album of all original material titled Laws of Illusion after an estimated period of seven years. It featured 12 new songs and debuted at #3 on the Billboard 200. The album ended up featured in the single “One Dream” which later on became the official theme song of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. McLachlan then went on to perform her hit “Ordinary Miracle” at the opening ceremony of the Olympics in her home city Vancouver.
9.She was awarded two Honorary degree
