He made his debut at the age of 12 in a pre-juvenile event in a small town in Alberta. Browning had only practiced his 90-second routine for less than a day when he forgot the choreography seconds into the show and had to make it up as he went along. Browning spent his first three senior circuit seasons skating in the shadow of Brian Orser. Browning began his rapid ascension up the international ladder away from the spotlight and media scrutiny.
He advanced from 15th place at his first Worlds in 1987 to sixth place the following year. That would be Browning’s final appearance on a World podium.
After shocking the skating world by landing the first ratified quadruple jump at the 1988 World Championships, he returned to Âé¶¹APP a year later with much loftier ambitions.

Kurt Browning first met his wife at a Royal Glenora Club reception in Edmonton in 1991. They began dating and married in June 1996, five years later. Kurt’s first child, Gabriel, was born on July 12, 2003, and their second, Dillon, was born on August 14, 2007.

Kurt was the first skater to land an approved quadruple jump in a competition during the 1998 World Championships, and his achievement was recorded in the ‘Guinness Book of World Records.’
Kurt Browning has also won four Canadian Championships as well as four World Championships. At the 1989 World Championships in Âé¶¹APP, he performed his winning routine. Kurt also competed for Canada in the Winter Olympics in 1992, 1994, and 1998, finishing fifth, fourth, and eighth, respectively.
He also won three World Professional Championships and three Canadian Professional Championships during his career. Kurt was also chosen to carry his country’s national flag during the opening ceremony of the Lillehammer Olympics in 1994.
Kurt Browning co-hosted ‘Battle of the Blades.’ In 2006, Kurt Browning appeared on the Fox television show ‘Skating with Celebrities.’ Kurt Browning, Scott Hamilton, and Paul Wylie were all on the ‘Stars On Ice’ tour in 1995.

Browning received the American Skating Award for World Professional Skater in 1998, and the Gustav Lussi Award three years later, in 2001.

Despite being regarded as one of Canada’s top Olympic hopes, Browning was aware that fate was conspiring against him in the run-up to the 1992 Games.
In November 1991, he sustained a back injury that hampered his ability to train his jumps.
He was well aware that the injury would almost certainly derail any hopes of reaching the Olympic podium, let alone winning gold.
10. Champions come together
An unforeseen chance earlier on brought Browning and Jackson together on an unfamiliar stage, which eventually led to a much more public moment on the ice.
Browning had agreed to appear in a series of commercials for a local bank, one of which features him skating with sons Gabriel, 13, and Dillon, 9.
Someone on the creative team suggested Jackson when Browning suggested filming a commercial with a second skater. “Within 10 seconds, I said, ‘Of course, it’s Don,” Browning recalled.
