Brazil is the largest country in South America and of Latin America too, it has therefore produced some of the greatest celebrities, both male and female. Majority of these celebrities are famous Brazilians with international careers or recognized worldwide.

The most common career for these famous celebrities is acting. Being the most creative platform many celebrities are able to freely express themselves and showcase their talent through acting.

The acting scene of Brazil is mostly associated with telenovelas, popularly known as soap operas. However, there are a few actors who have managed to venture into different genres in the acting such as Alice Braga.

Since it would be impossible to shortlist all of the Brazilian actors, here are the 11 most famous Brazilian actors.

1.Rodrigo Santoro

Rodrigo Santoro is a Brazilian actor, born in Petrópolis, a Brazilian city in Rio de Janeiro State. He is a prominent actor who is especially well-known among female viewers. In addition he is one of the well-known Brazilians nominated for several “sexiest” and “most attractive” lists.

The Brazilian Actor is Known for His Role as Xerxes in the Films ‘300’ and ‘300: Rise of an Empire. His first role that he launched his career was in the Brazilian film, Bicho de Sete Cabeças, Brainstorm, in 2001 which gave him his first important role in a motion picture. 

Rodrigo Santoro has also featured in numerous soap operas or telenovelas on Brazilian television where he performed central roles. He also appeared in Love Actually, Lost, 300, The Last Stand, Jesus, and a number of Chanel commercials, in addition to many other films.

2.Alice Braga

Alice is one of the most famous actresses in with a Brazil origin. She began her acting career in the Portuguese-language short film Trampolim in 1998 and later continued with her studies.

Alice was nominated for the Best Supporting Actress from the Cinema Brazil Grand Prize because of her role as Angelica in the film City of God in 2002. She got her international prominence after appearing opposite Will Smith in I Am Legend (2007).

 Later appeared in several films such as Predators (2010), The Rite(2011), Elysium (2013), The Shack (2017), Soul (2020), and The Suicide Squad (2021). She portrayed the starring role of Teresa Mendoza in the crime drama-thriller television series Queen of the South.

3.Bruno Campos

Bruno Campos is a Brazilian-American lawyer and f actor. He is famous in Brazil and internationally due to his role of Dr. Quentin Costa on the award-winning television show Nip/Tuck.

In 1995, he starred in the Brazilian film O Quatrilho and in the same year played the male lead at The Goodman Theatre in All’s Well That Ends Well, directed by Mary Zimmerman, a Tony Award winner.

He was also the voice of Prince Naveen in the animated film The Princess and the Frog, and Massimo in the Academy Award-nominated Brazilian movie Quatrilho.  With regards to his law career, he attended law school in 2010 and earned a J.D, three years later he started working for Morgan, Lewis & Bockius.

4.Lino Schmidek Machado Facioli

Lino Schmidek Machado Facioli is a British-Brazilian actor born in 29 July 2000. At the age of 7 years he showed interest in having an acting career. He is best known for portraying Lord Robin Arryn in Game of Thrones and Naples in Get Him to the Greek

His interests led him to be enrolled in a theater school in London. He started his career by making appearances in short metrages and television series in 2010. His career then took off after being in the British short film Awfully Deep in 2010 from director Daniel Florêncio.

 In addition, he joined the cast of Get Him to the Greek, acting as the son of actor Russell Brand, where he played Robin Arryn, Lord of a noble family in the series Game of Thrones.

5.Morena Baccarin

Morena Baccarin is a Brazilian actress who has appeared in a variety of films and television shows, including Gotham, Firefly, Homeland, and Deadpool. The actress ha scaught the eye of the public and has received numerous nominations, including those for best actress, female performance, and supporting actress.

The actress was formerly married to Austin Chick, a movie producer, and they have a son together. At the moment, since 2017, her partner is Ben McKenzie and together they have two kids.

6.Matheus Nachtergaele

Matheus Nachtergaele is a Brazilian actor, director, and screenwriter born in 3rd  January 1968. He is famously known for his role in the 1997 film Four Days in September and the 2002 film City of God among other numerous Brazilian films.

 The actor has won the Best Actor award in the Grande Prêmio do Cinema Brasileiro, for his roles in Midnight (1998) in 2000 and O Auto da Compadecida (2000) in 2001. In addition, in 2003, he won the Best Actor award for Mango Yellow at XIII Cine Ceará.

7.Dalton Vigh de Sousa Vales

The Brazilian actor was born on July 10, 1964. His first acting role was in the television soap opera, Tocaia Grande, in 1995. In the telenovela, he starred with Patrícia de Sabrit novels and Vidas Cruzadas of Rede Record.

His career and fame is attributed from his work in the interpretation of Said Rachid in the soap opera O Clone in 2001. Dalton interpreted the amazing character Luigi Rossetti in the miniseries A Casa das Sete Mulheres of 2003.

In 2006, Dalton played the role as a villain in the soap opera O Profeta. He also got an invitation to star in the soap opera Duas Caras, 2007, written by Aguinaldo Silva, playing the villain Marconi Ferraço.

8.Taís Araújo

Araújo is one of the most admired and beautiful Brazilian celebrities and actor. She is also a model, actor, and TV personality. She has acted in numerous national telenovelas in Brazil and has received high recognition.

She was the first Afro-Brazilian to hold the role of a soap opera’s lead actress in prime time and was recently chosen as one of the top 100 people under the age of 40. According to Vogue, Araújo is known as Brazil’s most glamorous and bravest TV star because of her continual social media discussion of racial issues in Brazil.

9.Morena Baccarin

Morena Baccarin is a Brazilian actress who is famous both in Brazil and in Hollywood. She was born in Rio de Janeiro but later on, she moved to the US with her parents at the age of 7 years.

The South American actress starred in the television series Homeland and the movie Deadpool. She has also featured in a Netflix series Gotham and had the leading role in the series V. 

10.Jorge Mário da Silva

Jorge Mário da Silva is a Brazilian musical artist, songwriter, and actor. His stage name is Seu Jorge, a renewer of Brazilian pop samba. The actor was born in June 8, 1970. He is mostly known for his film roles as Mané Galinha in the 2002 film City of God and as Pelé dos Santos in the 2004 film The Life Aquatic.

11.Wagner Maniçoba de Moura

Wagner Maniçoba de Moura is a Brazilian actor, director, filmmaker, musician, and journalist born on 27 June 1976. He has achieved international fame for his roles in Elite Squad (2007), its sequel: Elite Squad: The Enemy Within (2010) and Elysium (2013) as Spider.

He received a Golden Globe nomination for his role as Pablo Escobar in the first two seasons of the Netflix series Narcos (2015–2016).  In order for him to potray this role, Moura took Spanish lessons, to sound more like a native speaker.

In addition, he had to gain over 18 kilograms (40 pounds) to play the role of Pablo Escobar; after production of the second season of Narcos, Moura decided to lose the weight through an all-vegan diet
