Antoni GaudÃ: Must-see Buildings in Barcelona
Antoni Gaudi was born on June 25, 1852, in Reus or Riudoms, Catalonia, Spain. He was a famous architect famously known as the greatest exponent of Catalan Modernism. Most of Gaudi’s work is located in Barcelona. He was known for using a unique sui generis style, which is often imitated by other architects but they never reached Antoni standards.
He was among the best-known and most successful architects from the beginning of the century in Spain. He has done a lot of work in Barcelona because most of his life he lived there. 1. Casa Vicens
Casa Vicens is considered one of the first Art Nouveau buildings in the world. It was the first Gaudi important building. It is a modern building located in the Grà cia. The initial plan for building Casa was drawn between 1883 and 1885, however, the construction of the building was started between 1883 and 1885.
After the finishing of this building, the work was amazing and widely discussed causing a great sensation among the general public at the time. At the time of the construction of Casa Vicens, Gracia was still an independent urban nucleus of Barcelona.

2. Parc Güell
Parc Güell is situated on Carmel Hill, in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain and it is composed of architectural elements and gardens. Eusebi Güell, (a Catalan entrepreneur who profited greatly from the industrial revolution in Catalonia) assigned Antoni Gaudà to design the park.
The Parc was built back in 1900 to 1914, and in 1926, it was officially opened as a public park, and people were free to visit. UNESCO declared the park a World Heritage Site in 1984, under ‘the works of Antoni Gaudi’.

3. Colonia Güell
The Church of Colonia Güell was built by Antoni GaudÃ. It was constructed as a place of worship mainly for the people on a hillside in a manufacturing suburb in Santa Coloma de Cervelló. The construction of the church started in 1908, the plan for the building was made up of two towers, one forty-meter-high central dome and constructing 2 naves, upper and lower.
The Güell family pull up the construction of Colonia Güell in 1914, due to the death of Count Güell. The building is one of the works of Antoni that are chosen by UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

4. Palau Güell
Palau Güell is one of the buildings designed by Antoni Gaudi, it is located in Barcelona, Spain. It is a must-visit mansion anytime you visit Barcelona. It was built between 1886 and 1888. The building is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site as the ‘Works of Antoni GaudÃ’.
In 2014, the renovation of the building was started since some stones from the original construction were weak and this caused cracks over the years causing problems with the building. The public visits were suspended till the renovation was over in April 2011.

5. Casa Milá
Casa Milá is a modern building in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain, designed by Antoni Gaudi. It was built between 1906 and 1912, and it was the last private residence to be designed by architect Antoni GaudÃ.
In 1906, Pere Milà and his wife Roser Segimon commissioned the Casa Milá building. UNESCO declared it a World Heritage Site in 1984. It is the headquarters of the Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera, since 1984, which manages visits to the building and other cultural and educational activities at the Casa.

6. Torre Bellesguard
Torre Bellesguard is one of the houses designed by architect Antoni Gaudi and it is located in the Sarrià -Sant Gervasi district of Barcelona. It is also referred to as Casa Figueres.
The place where the Torre is built was the site of a country residence which belonged to Martin, the King of Aragon and count of Barcelona. The construction of the building started in 1900 and ended in 1909.

7. Casa Calvet
Casa Calvet is a must-visit building in Barcelona. It is one of Antoni Gaudi’s works and is located at Carrer de Casp 48, Eixample district of Barcelona. The construction of the building began in 1898 and was completed in 1900.
The Architectural style used to design these buildings was Modernisme (the historiographic denomination given to an art and literature movement associated with the search for a new entitlement of Catalan culture). Between 1899 and 1906, modernist pieces were awarded and Casa Calvet was among the buildings which were lucky to be awarded the Arts Building Annual Award.

8. Colegio Teresiano de Barcelona
Colegio Teresiano de Barcelona it is one of the Antoni Gaudi works. The construction of the building started in 1888 and was completed in 1890. The construction was to be on a budget and Gaudi applied his own design and used bricks instead of stones to minimize cost.
The building was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1969. It is a must-visit location and for anyone visiting Barcelona, I recommend you visit and get to see this good design building with a unique design.

9. La Sagrada Familia
La Sagrada Familia is located in the Eixample district of Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. It was designed by a famous architect, Antoni Gaudi. The building was started in 1852 and was completed in 1926.
Sagrada Familia is the largest unfinished Catholic church in the world. It was declared part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site years back. The architectural style used by Antoni to design the church was a combination of Gothic and curvilinear Art Nouveau forms.
Architect Gaudi died before he completed designing the church, and less than a quarter of the project was complete. His remains are buried in the church’s crypt.

10. Casa Batlló
Casa Batlló is located in the centre of Barcelona. It is easily accessible since it is centrally located. It was designed back in 1904, however, several renovations have been done over the years. It is locally known as the Casa dels ossos which means ‘House of Bones’.
Like many of the Antoni buildings, Casa Batlló was a Modernisme as well. It became UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005 as ‘the Works of Antoni GaudÃ’. Many people around the world visit the building annually.
