Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Memorial Museum is also known as Bangabandhu Bhaban or referred to as Dhanmondi 32. It was a personal residence of the Founding Father and President of Bangladesh.
Sheikh Mujib and his family were assassinated a the now museum. The residence of Sheikh Mujibur was inaugurated as a museum in August 14, 1994, and is operated by the trustee.

1. The Brief History of Bangabandhu Memorial Museum
Bangabandhu Memorial Museum used to be a personal residence of the founding father and president of Bangladesh. In August 15, 1975, he and his family were brutally killed in their home.
In June 12, 1981, the house was handed over to the surviving family members of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman; his two remaining daughters; Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Rehana.
Bangabandhu Memorial Trust was given the house to turn into a museum on September 6, 1994. On August 14, 1994, the two daughters inaugurated the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Memorial Museum.
The inauguration was attended by a grand gathering of foreign diplomats and respected intellectuals from home and abroad. There are post-violence photographs that will remind you of the violent killing mission that occurred on August 15, 1975.
The intruders mostly looted the residence rooms, but the reminiscent furniture and accessories used by Bangabandhu and his family can introduce you to their normal lifestyle.
2. The Wet Stairs with the Bangabandhu Blood
When the killers attacked the house by recklessly firing, Bangabandhu went down the stairs to confront the intruders. He met the intruders on the stairs while entering a portion of the house to kill him and his family.
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur fearlessly confronted the attackers “What do you want? Where do you want to take me?”. He was brutally assassinated on the main staircase of his house.
The killers then proceeded to his bedroom and killed several family members in this room, including Sultana Kamal Khuku, Sheikh Jamal, Parvin Jamal Rozi, Sheikh Russel and Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatanesa Mujin.
3. The Bangabandhu Memorial Museum Extended Building
The expanded building consists of a library and a research center established on the 5th floor and it was inaugurated in August 20, 2011.
The library was built to provide reference services on the career of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. It has more than 10,000 books and archival materials. The library books are classified according to Dewel Demical classification.
Visitors can read books in the library from 10 am to 5 pm, everyday more than 200 hundred readers come o study in the library. Also, researcher scholars and university teachers can use the library until the completion of research work with the approval of authorities.
4. It Is the Birthplace for Sheikh Russel
The room where Sheikh Russel was born is located on the northeast side of the ground floor. Bangabandhu’s daughter used to live in this room and the.
Sheikh Russel was his youngest son and was born in this room at 1:30 pm on October 18, 1964. After the first floor was completely built, other relatives used to stay in the room.
Today relatives visit the room where Sheikh Russel was born to pray for the departed souls.
5. The Bangabandhu Memorial Museum Ground Floor
A long corridor connects the office room to the sitting room on the ground floor. Bangabandhu used to reach the office room and sitting room via the corridor.
The western and eastern walls of this corridor are new, displaying the portraits of the deceased family member of Bangabandhu and the guest killed in his home.
Interestingly, the meeting room was used as a salon and it became remarkable as a ground for significant political activities in his library. He used to store books of famous novelists and writers.
Today bullet pierced books of this library are holding glory signs of what happened during the assassination.

7. The Museum Second Floor has Spectacular Attractive Rooms
The bedroom of Bangabandhu is a fascinating place to visit and tour. Bangabandhu and Begum used to live with their youngest son, a ten-year-old Sheikh Russel.
Several family members were brutally murdered in this room. Today the furniture and walls, such as the dressing table, desk table reading table, display that blend spots and bullet mark shot by assassins. There is also preserved letter that was addressed to Bagamata.
Also, the dining room is on the second floor. In this room, some objects are kept for displaying, such as a hand-made pickle jar, Sheikh Russel’s favorite two cycles, a coke bottle and many more.
8. The Third Floor Houses Many Bangabandhu Family Treasures
At the Sheikh Kamals on the third floor, violence is still seen on the remaining accessories like glasses, spoons and plates kept beside the table next to the bed.
In Sheikh Kamal’s room, a dressing table and the cosmetic material of Khaki (wife of Sheikh Kamal) were displayed. Sheikh Kamal’s keyboard, soundbox, shield, certification and sports medal.
Bangabandhu used to speak with chief leaders and held meetings with dignitaries and foreign guests in the waiting room. A showcase in this room displays some gifts hence given by different parties like little beats, Shapala.
9. The Office Room and Reading Room
Here Bangabandhu used to study alone and the children of the house used to study in this room during their examination because the room was calm.
Bangabandhu sometimes used this room for official purposes and it preserves a pen of the Father of the Nation, two telephone sets, several toys of Sheikh Russel, hand-written manuscripts of Sheikh Kamal and several books written by nature and foreign writers.

The museum is located in the former home of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family.
The home is located in the Dhanmondi 32 (old) or 11 (new) area, 12 no Road in Dhaka city, the capital of Bangabandhu.
