The New Market area is triangular in shape with high arched entry gates on three sides. There are spaces for 440 shops and a triangular lawn at the center. The total area of the market spreads over 35 acres (140,000 m²) of land.

After its establishment, the market paved way for the modernization of the city, and it became the most popular destination for shopping and recreation centers for young people.

One of the prominent features located at the center of Dhaka’s new market is the Baitul Aman Jame Masjid mosque. A park inside has been converted into a mosque on the first-floor level with sixty new shops under it.

In the 1980s, Dhaka’s new market’s northern part was extended into a separate section.  The New Super Market for crockeries and Banalota Market for kitchen utensils were built.
